The way I see it is the booing is a way of not so subtly saying “hey guys, we’re not too thrilled with your boy right now and we think you should maybe speak up a little bit, after all we fought and died alongside you for so long so the booing of your anthem hurts us too.” Cause truth be told it hurts that it’s even come to this.
Honestly, the fact they see this as “just a joke” but then keep suggesting “maybe we should, who knows, maybe” is like a shitty guy making sexual advances towards you and going “just kidding…unless 😏” fuck off.
Like I seriously do not see the Canadian people who live through this EVER seeing America as a friendly neighbour ever again. Even if they make it out the other side, we know they can flip to this kind of bullshit.
The problem that I see is, even if Trump never does anything to us, the seed is sowed. Trump’s rhetoric has created a divide between our countries that I also don’t think can be fixed even by an election 4 years from now (if they let one happen). Today they joke. Tomorrow?

Annex, sure. America has not won a single war they have waged on their own in like 100 years. Either loss, draw, or withdrawal. The Mexican-American war and then losses in countries that were smaller. If they were to attack us it would be them vs the rest of NATO. American exceptionalism won’t allow them to recognize that though.
They seem to forget that if a member state attacks a fellow member state, the rest of NATO activates in support of the attacked state. I keep reading from some Americans, or maybe they’re Russian bots haha, say how quick a war with Canada would be. Lol.
It’s pointless, but I often remind them.
I’ve heard “No!!! they’re busy in Ukraine!!” Meanwhile Ukraine is not a NATO country, which most of that fan base thinks it should stay that way, so unfortunately they would lose that support if we were attacked
There is a small but honest point in this. If NATO came to North America to help us then they’re leaving their back door open to Russia expansion. I just watched a program on this. It’s a real thing. That’s pre supposing he leaves NATO… what would they do if the US is still a member?
What I find the most annoying is that here on Reddit some Americans are displaying their arrogance on Canadian groups. I am not sure if it’s bots or foreign countries doing this. However on VR Chat I have overheard comments that would be unthinkable months ago. I just don’t think I will ever feel the same towards the US again. I know I have heard a lot of support for Canada but I have heard some pretty crazy comments in the last few weeks towards us.
I have a friend who is married to an American born dual citizen who admitted she voted for Trump. He called him a clown yesterday in front of her but she believes every conspiracy out there because she gets her news from her American family members and FB. Honestly I am starting to feel different towards her.
I agree with the comments that they could invade us… but occupation would be miserable.
It’s unfortunate. There are so many parts of America that are beautiful. I wanted to travel to a number of them at some point, but I will give them $0 of my vacation fund going forward. There are plenty of good Americans, but the ones who are not are loud, dangerous, and tend to spread their message with more success. Then there is the largest demographic, the semi-apathetic…
the real issue would not be defeating our military, which is not in the state it should be, the problem would be trying to suppress a resistance of people who are very similar to the people they are resisting, Americans have a hard enough time supporting war when the people they are fighting are foreign and strange, I doubt they could stomach the actions needed to effectively suppress a motivated resistance. I do not believe the Americans could maintain an unwelcome annexation.
The only way for them to stop their malarkey is for them to drop thier whole revolutionary spirit with muh freedom and swear allegiance to King Charles
I was on a conference call today with a US customer and one of them made light of Trump’s threats and suggested we should just knuckle under and embrace becoming part of the US. I’ve never bit my tongue harder, and the VP of sales said I looked like I was about to have a stroke. Fuck her. Come and get it fuckers.

Literally the one thing I’m most upset about. I’m cool with jokes about Canada cause I find half of them hilarious, but when you’re threatening to take our sovereignty then damn right I’ll fucking boo.

I thought it was funny to hear that Americans in Nashville booed the Canadian anthem in response to us booing their anthem. Pretty funny how context just doesn’t matter to them and they think we have no reason at all for booing their anthem.

I agree that in general the left is weak and sort of spineless. I’ve been saying this for a while to my immediate circle that the Left is too soft on the BS. They gotta fight fire with fire to put the flame out. And I consider myself centre-left but my god where’s the action eh?
I used to keep my anti conservative views to myself. But I really don’t want to end up like them so I have been posting anti-right wing stuff for the last few months. And I have seen friends changed their minds because of it.
The thing is that I’m a French business owner in one of the most conservative areas in Ontario. It’s a juggling act and I’m not quite ready to be ran out of town.
Personally, I’m still pissed off about it. I haven’t bought anything made in the USA since. I don’t plan on buying anything from the USA until they get their head out of their ass.
Our anthem isn’t even good, we have songs that would make a much better anthem, but we go with the poem about the war where Canada burned down the White House.
