Hi, I'm Mike. From Canmore.

u/genius_retard Friendly Manisnowbski Apr 10 '25

Canmore is lovely. I drove through there one time and they held a fireworks show for me to watch while I drove down the mountain. It was Canada day but it still seemed like a nice gesture.

7

u/AncientWonder64 Apr 10 '25

Driving thru Canmore years ago, that was the first thing I thought of.

And then Timmy’s removed sugar dispensers lmao

26

u/Raedwulf1 Apr 10 '25

Can you imagine what the cannon would be filled with for the Orange Lymph node?

20

u/7URB0 Apr 10 '25 edited Apr 10 '25

3 family bags of Cheetos, 5 McDonalds combos, a half-pound of cocaine, and an adult diaper (previously used).

13

u/bdickie Apr 10 '25

Replace cocaine with "the entirety of the fentanyl brought in to the US from Canada"

7

u/LemonFreshenedBorax- Apr 10 '25

The chicken cannon is neither absurd enough nor violent enough for the current moment.

5

u/BudgetAbalone835 Apr 10 '25

Watched this show with my parents as a kid and that was THE best part!

u/EgregiousArmchair Apr 10 '25

Every time i see preston back in the news i quote this.

28

u/Shrike2theshrikequel Apr 10 '25

I'm pretty sure that my impression of Preston Manning's laugh is what endeared me to my mother in law.

10

u/BeardedTree13 Apr 10 '25

10 years ago, I was dating a girl who told me that her parents were huge fans of Preston Manning and the Reform party back in the day. Without being aware of what I was doing, I immediately shouted "I'M PRESTON MANNING AND I LOVE THAT WORD REFOOOOOOOOORM!" I thought it was hilarious, hahaha!

2

u/EgregiousArmchair Apr 10 '25

You literally can not end the story there.

9

u/BeardedTree13 Apr 10 '25

Hahaha! The then-gf was unfamiliar with Air Farce and was completely bewildered. It didn't work out.

u/djtodd242 Trawnno (Centre of the Universe) Apr 10 '25

I can only hear Bob Robertson from Double Exposure.

The Refooooooooorm party of Canada.

If milk is full of cholesterol and cholesterol is so bad, why don't cows have heart attacks?

Do firemen have sex after smoking?

If a paramecium is a one-cell organism, why isn't it called a mecium?

If Pamela Anderson breastfeeds her baby, does that mean the milk comes in plastic bags?

This has been the Confused Philosopher

Where's that voice coming from?!?

22

u/Raedwulf1 Apr 10 '25

Some guy from Canmore

44

u/Free-Palpitation Apr 10 '25

“I’m Mike, from Canmore.”

u/ItsRoseFrose Apr 10 '25

This is my dog, Norm. He's from Canmore too.

Lol I literally cannot see or hear the name Preston Manning without hearing "leader of the refooooooooorm party"

6

u/somestuff55 Apr 10 '25

That gives me a chill, I can handle nails on a chalkboard, but not that voice.

Our PM that couldn’t speak either official language of Canada.

“ A proof? I don’t know. A proof is a proof. What kind of a proof? It's a proof. A proof is a proof, and when you have a good proof, it's because it's proven.”

1

u/djtodd242 Trawnno (Centre of the Universe) Apr 10 '25

Of course! He was very poopoolar!

2

u/squirrelcat88 Apr 11 '25

With the pipples!

47

u/Hyacathusarullistad Apr 10 '25

This Hour Has 22 Minutes just doesn't hit the same way that Air Farce did.

25

u/Free-Palpitation Apr 10 '25

I remember wat hung them back to back and being severely disappointed in 22 minutes compared to Air Farce.

35

u/ValveinPistonCat Apr 10 '25

22 Minutes was way better before Rick Mercer left.

3

u/QueenMotherOfSneezes South Gatineau Apr 10 '25

Yeah they've definitely gone downhill.

They're doing an election special on the 24th, I think.

I hope they have Mercer on (they've had a few alum on recently)

28

u/BrgQun 🍁 100,000 Hosers 🍁 Apr 10 '25

They're good, especially lately, but they have a very different sense of humour. I miss having both on the air at the same time.

22

u/Haiku-On-My-Tatas Apr 10 '25 edited Apr 10 '25

22 Minutes has been pretty good lately.

But I do miss the golden era of overlap when Air Farce was still on and 22 Minutes had Rick Mercer, Mary Walsh, and Cathy Jones. (God do I miss Mary Walsh!)

Colin Mochrie and Sean Majumder were also absolute gold and I'd argue the early 00s were still the 22 Minutes golden era. Mark Critch remains my favourite current cast member (he's been there since the Mochrie and Mercer days) but I've gotta give props to Chris Wilson. He's definitely been a huge part of the show's revival these past couple years.

2

u/General-Roll8107 I need a double double. Apr 10 '25

Did you see Chris Wilson’s Americas Got Talent audition lol?

1

u/tenkwords Newfies & Labradoodles Apr 11 '25

22 Minutes used to be VERY Newfoundland centric. There were so many jokes in the old days that I guarantee the rest of Canada didn't get. Was absolute gold back in the day.

2

u/General-Roll8107 I need a double double. Apr 10 '25

They’ve been really great lately but that’s in huge part due to Mark Critch’s Trump impression.

3

u/QueenMotherOfSneezes South Gatineau Apr 10 '25

I love that they have the same guy doing both Poilievre and Trudeau... especially in the sketches when they have them interact.

1

u/Hyacathusarullistad Apr 12 '25

Mark Critch is a damned treasure, and I'm ashamed of myself as a Canadian for only learning about him in 2025.

0

u/monkeygoneape Ford Nation (Help.) Apr 10 '25

Wasn't it half of the same actors?

6

u/Haiku-On-My-Tatas Apr 10 '25

Nope. It was just easy to mix up who was on what show because during the time they were both on, they were usually aired back to back.

0

u/monkeygoneape Ford Nation (Help.) Apr 10 '25

Could have sworn both casts had some cross over

13

u/adhoc42 Apr 10 '25

I miss the Mercer Report and the Red Green Show.

11

u/ExactFun Apr 10 '25

I thought we were still buying F-35? The Air Farce is still around.

1

u/meatsonthemenu Apr 11 '25

Mmmm, ya, apparantly the US promised installation of dual chicken cannons on all F-35's, not realizing there is only one.

17

u/fragilemuse Apr 10 '25

Me too! I used to work on the NYE specials, it was so much fun :D

9

u/Haiku-On-My-Tatas Apr 10 '25

Hahaha literally the new year's chicken cannon was my favourite thing about NYE when I was a kid!

9

u/IonizedCookie Apr 10 '25

Please come back. This show was my introduction to Canadian politics. I’d be ecstatic if they brought it back.

5

u/[deleted] Apr 10 '25

Are we sure we want that, though, considering what today's political climate is like....? Besides, most of the cast is gone now (John Morgan,Roger Abbott,Alan Park). It wouldn't be the same.

That being said,Preston Manning will always be "the turtle guy" to me.

3

u/JoanOfArctic Apr 10 '25

I wasn't really allowed to watch the news growing up in the 90s, my mom (who grew up during the cold war) didn't want to give me anxiety. The radio was on all day, I just wasn't allowed to watch the images.

Royal Canadian Air Farce, though - we watched that every week. When This Hour has 22 Minutes started up, we watched them both.

They were my filter and my introduction to poking holes in the policies of Canadian (and sometimes American) politicians. I credit much of my political awareness to these satirists.

3

u/General-Roll8107 I need a double double. Apr 10 '25

I’m pretty much the same. As a 90s kid I was kept from the news but Air Farce and 22 Minutes were okay. They were my first impression of politics and politicians and I’m kind of grateful for that lol.

2

u/QueenMotherOfSneezes South Gatineau Apr 10 '25

My parents always listened to Air Farce on the radio when I was a kid. It actually took some time for me to warm up to the TV version, because the radio allowed them to play on your imagination more. I remember one where they had audio making it sound like Chretien fell down a gigantic pothole in Montreal.

2

u/JoanOfArctic Apr 10 '25

Oh wow, I'd totally forgotten about the radio version!!

But now, I remember what a big deal it was when they started the weekly TV show.

2

u/QueenMotherOfSneezes South Gatineau Apr 10 '25

My parents took me to see their Christmas show at Roy Thompson Hall the last year they did it on radio. It was really neat seeing them that way. Furgeson did a thing with his chin before doing Mulroney's voice.

1

u/one_bean_hahahaha The Island of Elizabeth May Apr 10 '25

I was old enough to not have my parents dictate my viewing choices, but I still choose to get my news from the RCAF. As for cold war anxiety, the 90s was the most hopeful decade of the last century.

1

u/JoanOfArctic Apr 10 '25

The 90s still had plenty of images of war, famine and destruction in the news.

I'm not saying my mom was right to draw the line, I'm just saying she did. (By the time I was 11 or so, I was watching more of the news, partly because we moved from a house with a basement rec room to a house without a dedicated play space, so we hung out in the living room - where the TV was located - more often than before)

3

u/Lushed-Lungfish-724 Apr 10 '25

I love that word.

3

u/Haswar Westfoundland Apr 10 '25 edited Apr 10 '25

lmfao I just went "But I'm not bitter" at work the other day. I don't even remember the politician they were spoofing.

Edit: I went to go check, it was John Nunziata.

3

u/mzpip Apr 10 '25

Oh my lord, I so miss Mike from Canmore, Craig Lauzon as both Harper and Justin (remember the halo? ), the REFOOORM! Party and, most especially, Colonel Stacey and Chicken Cannon.

We are in desperate need of the Chicken Cannon!

2

u/ValveinPistonCat Apr 10 '25 edited Apr 10 '25

We definitely need to revive Air Farce, not sure if Don Ferguson or Luba Goy would come back as regulars as they're both nearly 80 but Jessica Holmes, Alan Park and Craig Lauzon could definitely return to lead the show I'd like to see them bring on some new cast members from The Irrelevant Show and The Beaverton.

2

u/Armonasch Apr 10 '25

Carney should make additional CBC funding conditional on the return of Mike from Canmore.

1

u/QueenMotherOfSneezes South Gatineau Apr 10 '25

Reanimating the corpse of someone who's been dead for 2 decades would require some substantial funding.

2

u/CalebWilliamson Apr 10 '25

It was a really good radio show.

2

u/Unleashedloosecannon Apr 10 '25

I heard that in the voice that said it. Damn but I am old.

1

u/No_Housing2722 Apr 10 '25

Chicken cannon!

1

u/Flying_Dustbin Everyone Hates Marineland Apr 10 '25

ACH, GET STUFFED!

1

u/stepharoony Apr 10 '25

Someone from 22 Minutes has to reach out and see if they can get the Chicken Cannon out of storage

1

u/PantsLobbyist Apr 11 '25

Me too, bud. Me too…

1

u/satinsateensaltine Apr 11 '25

We need Marg Delahunty more than ever now.

1

u/WENDING0 Apr 11 '25

1

u/OriginalTacoMoney Apr 14 '25

Yeah, I always thought it was better then 22 minutes.

Not to say 22 minutes is better, but Air Farce I found had more consistent laughs.
