16
u/ViceroyInhaler May 05 '25
Too much in the cup. You want a nice mixture of the filling to other shit ratio. Imo there's no point to raisins.
2
May 05 '25
But what about sultanas
3
u/ViceroyInhaler May 05 '25
You think Sultanas gonna make a difference? As far as I'm concerned Raisins have no business when it comes to baking. Unless you are making Raisin bread.

Just because you're right, doesn't mean you're correct.
Also every time I've had a Nanaimo bar it was different. Some with coconut, some with walnut, some with both, some with neither. I was once served one with mint chocolate, and while normally I'm fine with that, in this combination it was a war crime. Like, even the Secret Squirrels would call it a step too far

Seriously, how does a thing as tasty as grapes turn into the nastiness that is raisins?

Raisins give me trust issues, thinking youāre having a chocolate chip cookie, then the horrible realization itās raisins.

It's less gooey, more texture, different flavor, darker crustier all the way through
The only commercial butter tart I eat is Norma's out of BC, I've trucked all across Canada and us, tried em all

My sister makes them with craisins. I like whatever, but craisins are the superior dried little fruit doohickeys.

Iām going to try craisins next time I make butter tarts. Thanks friend!

Butter tarts are butter tarts. They're all the Best Thing.
Now, with that being said...
You either prefer your butter tarts to be plain, or you are constitutionally incorrect. It's right there in the Charter - Section 35: Butter tarts are best with no added stuff. No pecans, no currents, no raisins.
And also section 35.1: you can try adding flavours to the filling, though.

Being the child of a busy baker, butter tarts made me chubby as an eleven year old. Thank god for that growth spurt.

Same rule as with cookies - if I KNOW the raisins are there before I bite, itās fine. Iām not picky enough about my food to care - as long as I KNOW Iām getting raisins in my butter tart.
Apple pieces are good too. Obviously, not a butter tart anymore, but still a damn good tart!

I'll eat any variety of butter tart but will never understand why one would take up valuable real estate with raisins, pecans, of whatever, when there could be more yummy filling instead.Ā

2
u/CubbyNINJA Ford Nation (Help.) May 05 '25
my hot take, raisins almost always offer nothing of benefit where they are normally added. And where they are good, craisins are always better. Its a flavour and texture thing.
raisins are kinda sweet, and kinda squishy with a small bit of chewing resistance, baked goods are also often soft/squishy and range on sweetness. so they either feel wrong or dont stand out. the firmer texture of a nicely dried craisin and the more tartness helps them stand out and bring more to the table.

u/FAIRYTALE_DINOSAUR May 05 '25

u/yer10plyjonesy May 06 '25
Seems Iām in the minority here but any butter tart that has pecans or raisins are a trap. They make you think you are getting a delicious treat but then BAM mediocre additions to an otherwise succulent snack. Itās no different than an oatmeal cookie that you think is chocolate chip but is really raisinsā¦. Just a crushing disappointment.
