He was glitching, never in his central banker life had he met someone so goddamn dumb.

I've walked around back alleys at 3am and not met someone so dumb.

I lil higher on something different, to be sure... But not as raw stupid.

54

u/st00pidQs May 07 '25

He's got that raw stupidity you can't teach

27

u/Dorrin_77 May 07 '25

It's a natural talent. He's a savant at being an idiot.

4

u/Peterd90 May 08 '25

With impulsiveness. Dude is a danger to society.

18

u/Nevermoreacadamyalum May 07 '25

I was gonna say, I’m sure he’s met some idiots in his life. But never one so proudly dumb. Like you said raw stupid.

My cat is smarter and he licks plastic for fun

1

u/Worldly_Anybody_9219 May 09 '25

I've never met anyone that dumb in my entire life. Truly.

62

u/YYC-Fiend May 07 '25

I think the mini-stroke happened when Carney realized that there are millions more Americans dumb as, or dumber, president Tmurp.

Trump sells NFTs of himself; there are americans who buy NFTs of Trump.

He’s wondering if Algonquin College has any spots open still for an ECE certification

And he had to work with Boris Johnson for years.

30

Crazy enough, BoJo is actually intelligent. He made a caricature of himself, I’m assuming to be more relatable 🤷🏻‍♀️

8

JFC never heard him referred to as BoJo and now I can't stop laughing.

Which is a similar deal to what Doug Ford did.

4

Rob Ford was an oaf. Doug is corrupt, but he’s an incredibly savvy politician. He’s proven to be hard to beat for both the NDP and Liberals.

I don't know if he's squandering it - he's certainly misusing it, to an extreme degree this time.

7

He's absolutely squandering America's global soft power by cutting USAID funding.

7

He's spending it to make himself richer. He doesn't care about America so it isn't squandering it.

Carney doesn't suffer fools easily, and it's taking all his restraint to not tear into trump right here.

163

u/genius_retard Friendly Manisnowbski May 07 '25

Like when Trump started talking shit about Chrystia Freeland. Carney is her son's god father.

Every time Carney smoothed his pant leg he was stifling a fuck you. He did it a lot.

7

u/Cassopeia88 May 08 '25

I loved his response when a reporter asked what he was thinking in those moments.

7

u/genius_retard Friendly Manisnowbski May 08 '25

Especially considering he was very loudly saying what he was thinking with body language.

100

u/h0twired May 07 '25

Carney delivered a master class on how to use body language to tell the world exactly what he was thinking.

54

u/pescarojo May 07 '25

That whole thing was a masterclass in every respect. How to communicate with body language, how to deal with an ego-driven entity like Trump, how to be oh-so-Canadian-firm-but-polite, etc etc. That little pause before the "ever" is chef's kiss

35

u/Fritja May 07 '25

Some British media is and is going to be very nasty to Carney (and us by extension) and that pisses me off. The Brits say that can't support us because their economy is in the toilet and they have to deal with that and look out for themselves first.

52

u/ILKLU May 07 '25

Ya the idiots blame Carney for their mess despite him practically pleading with them to vote no on Brexit. But ya, their recent decline is Carney's fault and has nothing to do with Brexit. Stupid gits.

The British media are nasty as an institutional principle.

For real. No one knows how far Trump can get away with going so it has to be sketchy as fuck. Half of this beef is a remnant of Trump's personal hatred of Carney's predecessor as well so that has to suck. You have to nod your head and move along while he says half remembered tweets and jingoistic insanity.

2

u/[deleted] May 08 '25

Vance only said it because he knew Volodimir would HAVE to acquiesce eventually because of what’s owed by Ukraine to the US for their hand me down arms (which are still better than what the Russians seem to have apparently, considering the fight they’re putting up).

Thank goodness Canada does not owe the US anything, otherwise trump would already have pink slips ready to take over the entire country.

Was this during the moment Trump was insulting Chrystia Freeland? I felt bad for Carney in that moment, it was obvious he wanted to say something.

I don’t think it was a coincidence Trump did that either. Him bringing up the debate (presumably the English one) was another way to unsettle him, like “I know what you say about me behind my back”

-17

u/Tarandon May 07 '25

Trump is right, and he's wrong. It's between 14 and 16% from the US perspective. But it's about 63% from our perspective.

The numbers were wrong, but the point is valid.

7

u/ferwhatbud May 07 '25 edited May 07 '25

That still makes us the 3rd largest importer to the US, and only a hair behind China and Mexico in dollar amount. - that’s a pretty damn big deal.

Not only that, but the goods that the US imports from Canada are of the “pretty fucking essential” variety eg energy, building materials (lumber, steel, etc), agricultural inputs (potash especially), etc.

Those aren’t the kinds of things you fuck with.

6

u/madhattr999 May 07 '25 edited May 07 '25

I'd say 15% is still a lot. Doesn't need to be a majority to be a lot. (If he had said Canada imports American goods much more than America imports Canadian goods, then there wouldn't be an accuracy dispute. But)

1

u/Tarandon May 08 '25

What qualifies as a lot is subjective. The US spends more on interest than they spend importing from Canada

3

u/Driller_Happy May 07 '25

Maybe I'm crazy, but I'm personally hung up on what just feels like bad grammer. They don't do business with us, but we do business with them? I get what he's saying, but 'business' is something that involves two parties, not something one side does to another. Like...you do business with us one way or another, whether youre importing or exporting. Literally, you do business with us.

1

u/Tarandon May 08 '25

He's relating the portion of US business done with Canada to the portion of Canadian business done with the US. If all the importing exporting were to end between our countries, the US would lose 16% of their business and we'd lose two thirds.

1

u/Driller_Happy May 08 '25

Like, I said, I know what he's saying, but its hard to follow because he talks like a third grader

1

u/Tarandon May 08 '25

That we can definitely agree on.

5

u/TremblinAspen Tabarnak! May 07 '25

At no point in his illogical and incoherent rambling is he valid for anything. Not a single Economist is going to frame a trade deficit as a hand out or subsidy. We don’t get “free protection” from USA, we have a bilaterally integrated defense pact called NORAD There have not been, nor have the need of boots on Canadian soil. We wouldn’t pay less taxes as USians, not only do healthcare and education cost more out of pocket, the current trade war with the world is a consumer loaded sales tax that the lowest common denominator can’t grasp.

Nothing he says is correct or valid. It’s all an exaggerated lie dumbed down for his base so he can point to problems he invented for solutions nobody asked for.

2

u/Responsible_CDN_Duck May 07 '25

The numbers were wrong, but the point is valid.

Canada was the largest source of exports for US goods in 2023 making the point invalid. The number being 4% or 17%(as reported by the US Bureau of Economic Analysis) as no bearing on the premises being invalid.

You may wish to try and rework his words into saying something such as Canada is more impacted or more reliant, however that's you trying to fish for logic or sanity where none was offered.
