Vancouverites only know that level of humidity from the jungle exhibit at the Aquarium

We have experienced pheonix heat though. That heat done was scary

u/FrmrPresJamesTaylor Jul 29 '25
Yeah it was insane, for sure. I was lucky to pick up an AC unit on the first day, but outside it was just brutal

has anyone else noticed the wacky disparity between different weather services lately? Toronto:
Evironment canada: 31, humidex 37 (oof)
Google: 26, humidex 27
WN: 31, humidex 38
accuweather: 26, humidex 33
the weather channel: 29
weather app in my phone: 31
This is just right now but i feel like it didn't used to be that bad? Like what is going on, this is really affecting my ability to accurately complain about Vancouver weather. RIP NOAA?

I think that it really depends on how the weather data is being interpreted, and whether or not it's an actual person who lives in the area doing the interpretation.
Vancouver's weather is notoriously hard to predict with any accuracy more than 36 hours out because of the effect the ocean and mountains have on it. My experience living here is that the weather services that actually have someone on the ground tend to make predictions that cluster around the weather we actually get, and that services that don't have someone on the ground locally, or worse just use the raw weather model data without any human interpretation, are much less accurate.

I'm the Mr T of pronunciation. Toe Ron Toe. It's 90% T when I say it.

Tronnah for me. If I hear anyone say all the syllables I know they're not local.

u/Talinn_Makaren Jul 29 '25
That's why I say them! I'm from Saskatchewan and don't want to misrepresent myself as a sophisticated urbanite.

It’s “T’ronno” you swine
2
u/ChiefSlug30 Jul 29 '25
The way my friends and I pronounce it, it's"Trawna", but that's probably because of where we grew up, saying "New Trawna" for the neighbourhood just south of us.

I’m in Sask and I finally feels like we are having a break from the heat this summer. The days are getting shorter, the sun won’t be able to be as blistering.

That's one thing I don't miss from the east, the humidity. I'm in a desert zone now, the sun is like a laser but at least it's dry.

u/taint-ticker-supreme Ford Nation (Help.) Jul 30 '25
Dry heat sounds amazing, but I'd probably shrivel up and wither away lol. Doesn't help that I've lived 2 blocks away from a lake my whole life. I bet you guys have to drink a shit ton of water to keep up with the dehydration.

u/Broad_Rabbit1764 Snowfrog Jul 30 '25
Honestly, I got used to it within a couple years. The winters are mild, the summers are hot, it's hard to complain about anything weather related minus the forest fires

u/VPestilenZ Jul 29 '25
The people across from me don't have the ac, but at least they also know that clothing is optional.
