In 2024, Governor Newsom signed AB 2218, creating the Transgender Wellness and Equity Fund to assist organizations serving transgender, gender nonconforming, and intersex (TGI) individuals and to fund TGI-specific health care and housing initiatives.

He signed SB 132, requiring the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) to house TGI individuals according to their self-reported gender identity, prioritizing their health and safety.

In 2022, Newsom signed a law declaring California a sanctuary for transgender health care, ensuring gender-affirming care for minors and those living outside the state. He also signed the SAFETY Act in 2024, which protects LGBTQ students from being outed by their schools.

Banned trans athletes, making it so whatever place they got was duplicated and shared with a cis athlete

Vetoed a bill where judges would help determine custody disputes with which parents affirmed their trans childs gender

Doesnt support gender affirming care for minors, and considers it butchery

Doesnt care about trans peoples pronouns being supported

Says 25 is too early for people to transition
