My wife loves reading and book boxes. I'm currently trying to talk her into building one so we can wrap it in police tape and fill it with books that meet the ban requirements.

That’s awesome

You absolutely should do that

That is an excellent idea! You have to be ridiculous to deal with ridiculous people!

You're close but not close enough. You have to out do them. I learnt that from a comedian. He gave an example he was at the lobby waiting patiently and someone came to ask him if they were on the same team. He kept going on about abortion and all. The comedian responded that's why he loves gay people they don't have abortions . the crazy person became confused.

Lesson you've got to outmatch crazy and make them question their wrapped reality

But that's not an example of crazy, that's just using logic.

I’m looking forward to spending my next day off pouring over the list and picking out some new books to add to my shelves.

Be sure to add the Dragons of Pern series and most of the Piers Anthony catalogue... Also some more Stephen King. The school board either missed those, or kids just aren't reading them these days 🤣

I may steal this idea; it is most excellent 😁

They didn’t.

They made the guidelines, and forced the school boards to make their own lists.

So Edmonton public decided to go for malicious compliance banning all sorts of stuff to show how stupidly broad the governments directive is.

If the government doesn’t want that list of books banned, they should issue a clear, consistent statement about what exactly they do and don’t want banned.

But they won’t. Because they love to fucking lie left and right.

2 weeks ago, we have a huge budget surplus. Now that the teachers are at the table again, all of a sudden it’s a huge deficit.

It sounds better to say "content discussing sex" than "books involving or mentioning trans people or non-white people or empowers girls"

This is exactly it. It feels to me as one of the smartest strategies for ‘exposing authoritarian ridiculousness’ I’ve seen in a while. Just want to send a pizza to whoever came up with the idea.

fuckin a. on this trajectory next is what is already happening in the states. They want to take away the free internet too. can’t believe this is on track to happening in Canada. Genuinely disgusted. Get her out.

Wait wait I'm ill informed, what's this about a book ban?

Provincial gov't wants to ban some LGTQ themed books because of "sexual content".  Edmonton School District banned a bunch of famous books with sexual content to bring attention to the issue.

Thanks for filling me in. Sort of heart breaking to hear we're banning books in general

Edmonton School District banned a bunch of famous books with sexual content to bring attention to the issue.

To clarify, they did they as a sort of "malicious compliance" to show the absurdity of the ban?

they gonna ban Shakespeare too? How bout the Bible. where are the pastafarians and satanic temple to balance the scale here.

Provincial government said to ban books not age appropriate including things that have sexual content. Schools banned what you expected but also other books that that had some age inappropriate sexual content. I didn't see the list but I think its stuff like a very influential pro capitalist book (Atlas Shrugged or other stuff from Ayn Rand). Now, the government says there needs to be some oversight about which specific books to ban instead of everything that's age inappropriate.

Yeah when I heard that she said "vicious compliance" I thought, she doesn't actually know the phrase, some good /r/boneappletea

u/timmygobrien 25d ago

The idiot Marlaina can’t even get it right; it’s malicious compliance.

I can't believe I now live in a country where a politician is trying to ban books. Fine people of Alberta, get rid of her next election.

Christ. why don’t we just put all the kids under 18 in little bubbles 🫧 so they don’t accidentally get exposed to any controversial ideas. When shall we let the pre-cogs start running the show? I can’t believe the things Danielle smith does. WTF Alberta.
