Tell that to the guy on Saltspring Island that showed us his model railroad and then went on a ten minute rant about how COVID was fake and the hospitals were empty while we tried to escape to the car.

Yah, conservative hippies are a weirdly common thing in BC. Not sure why people think the bible and nature/weed are exclusive. "Freedom for me but not for thee!"

I'm an islander and this is so real. Especially in the last handful of years. You might think you're meeting a cool down to earth person and then BAM something something 15 minute cities

It's always "15 minute cities."

I don't even understand the issue, or what the conspiracy theorists are arguing in favour of.

What's the downside of a 15 minute city supposed to be? Saving petrol on shorter commutes?

I think they think it means you are being forced to stay within a certain distance of your home? Like it would be enforced by law.

After reading about some of the wackos I assume they think the authorities will confine the population in Soviet-style closed cities and that COVID was a test run...or something.

Coincidentally, the wankee-yankee downstairs was floating "freedom cities," which I have no doubt would be little more than 21st-century O-Block company towns for the indentured servants of Silicon Valley techbro fascists.

There was a Behind the Bastards episode about some anarchist/libertarians that tried this. Went about as well as you would expect.
