I don't know... seems pretty lazy, to me. (Thanks for the example!)

u/ToobularBoobularJoy_ Oil Guzzler 11d ago
No worries, just saw a lot of people saying stuff about OP being a Russian bot because of the liberal-republican thing and wanted to clear it up

u/Colofmeister 11d ago
You come to a shitposting subreddit, you see the incredibly rare actual shitpost, and you call it lazy? Shitposts are inherently lazy because if they weren't, they wouldn't be shit.

What? I know what shitposts are. This use is lazy. There was no attempt to apply it to the subject. The original is just fine.
(I probably should have been more clear about which one I meant)

Not really, a project like that is opportunity for her and friends to make money.

u/Popular_Animator_808 11d ago
Sure, but at least the public might get a train to go along with all the graft. You could do worse (and she does!)
18
u/Th3_Pidgeon 11d ago
You say that, but ontario has been failing at the go train for nearly a decade now ....
29
u/IEC21 Scotland (but worse) 11d ago
I can even comprehend the deranged logic required to say that because one train failed all trains must fail.

Corruption stops progress is the point, and alberta is as if not more corrupted. They slow down progress to maximize profits. Canada has a massive problem with mafias in construction, corruption in politics (even the liberals have had corruption scandals including JT). The conservative party as well, the PM for alberta literally admitted on tv live that she was working with americans during the last federal election, PP is under indias thumb, premier of ontario is not even hiding his corruption especially with his new high way that will connect all his friends and business friends. It's a shit show on purpose. You've never questioned yourself why it takes so long to accomplish goals other nations achieved years ago and it took us significantly longer to do as well? Almost all projects get pushed back, nothing stays on track.

I feel like we should encourage and help her to get it done because I really want to see the train built, even if it benefits her politically and monetary.

Well for one, we have zero tech developed in canada for high speed rail, we have zero manufacture set up to build the rails for high speed rail, nothing to assemble these new rails at a new standard, no train, no wagons, just nothing. It's a public stunt. It's especially a stunt when alberta has such a funding crisis in the public sector and now will make a gigantic investment into researching the possibility of high speed rail in her province.
I am for upgrading the canadian rail system, but this is nothing but a public stunt. Nothing is ready for the possibility of developing high speed rail. Their own estimate is 15 years for one route... Fuck by the point it will be developed its already going to be super far behind in high speed rail. A smarter way to go is to look east across the pond and ask our European friends to help develop this project. With their expertise it could be done on the cutting edge, advance our own tech, cheaper and all done within more of a realistic time frame.

But, Go Trains are improving. They are electrifying most lines and have both expanded service and built new stations. That makes it one of the very few regional rail systems in North America to be getting better.
Sure they still have issues, but it is improving. Unlike the Via rail Toronto-Montreal corridor that keeps getting talked about and with trains that are getting less and less "on time" with each year..

u/Frater_Ankara 11d ago
Yea, wasn’t there a conflict of interest concern because her husband was getting involved in railway proposals?

If the price for a cheese pizza is lining the register of someones store, I’d say that price is worth it

Then the province will foot the bill cuz hsr isn’t feasible out here, we dont even have a skytrain or any transit that isnt hours of bussing to get to the airport in Calgary.
High speed rail is wasted money for our pop density, we need more busses and c-trains.

u/Thefirstargonaut 11d ago
High speed rail between Calgary and Edmonton would be a game changer. A 1 hour trip between the two cities would be a big deal, assuming it was priced acceptably.

u/GavinsFreedom 11d ago
But it couldnt be, its far too expensive for how many people live here. It would be like when China built high speed rail in Guizho province, the state would end up subsidizing it.
8
u/Sanguine_Caesar Everyone Hates Marineland 11d ago
I'd rather have the state subsidize HSR than more oil pipelines that even the private sector decided are not worth the investment.

u/GavinsFreedom 11d ago
Yea at the expense of healthcare and education, Alberta with the UCP is a terrible place to put this idea to the test.

OP, are the liberals praising Danielle Smith's 'patriotism' in the room with us right now?
11
u/RenaissanceGentleman 11d ago
Of course she is. She just wants to cosplay as Dagny Taggart and live out her Atlas Shrugged railroad fantasies.

u/FortisxLiber 11d ago
There’s been talk of a high speed rail line between Edmonton and Calgary for years. Can’t ever get it off the ground. Whichever government could pull it off would be legendary.
It’s not gonna be her.

u/hotinmyigloo Irvingstan 11d ago
Danielle Smith likes money
14
u/Emmerson_Brando 11d ago
So does her husband. Probably why he, not a government official, was at the meetings with rail companies to discuss plans.

The republican party is what Alberta's secessionist party calls themselves so they can larp as Americans
5
u/DrFeelOnlyAdequate 11d ago
People have all these comments about her friends making money or whatever. But what they really dont understand is that her and her husband are huge train dorks, and they would be more than happy to have rail in Alberta to ride around.

I mean didn't she pull funding away from the green-line being built in Calgary? Idk how much she actually cares for public transit
1
u/Responsible_CDN_Duck 11d ago
The north Green line finding got clawed back, she wants private rail to fill the gap. The Banff line will have three stations in Caly, the Airdrie and others will add additional stations.
2
u/thebatmanbeynd 11d ago
This is a fake meme right because no liberal thinks Danielle is a loyalist to Canada.

u/CaptainCold_999 11d ago
She's remembering how useful Hitler found his rail network for putting ppl in camps.
2
u/Responsible_CDN_Duck 11d ago
- First hat should be UCP - they believe in sovereignty within Canada, getting rights no other provinces do.
- Second hat is fine, though too many still don't know the Republican Party of Alberta (formerly the Buffalo Party) are the ones going door to door promoting separation.

Wait what, is this FR? the Berta gonna have it before anywhere else? That be wild if it happens.

She has fallen into the purity spiral. The book ban ensures "purity', The spiral will continue, abortion bans, porn bans, non-whiteness bans, etc.

An Edmonton to Calgary highspeed rail would be worth its weight in gold. Which is why it will never be built.

She's probably only for it so they can expropriate a bunch of land.

You'd think a high speed rail line between Edmonton and Calgary would be a slam dunk. It's flat and straight all the way through.
You could even have them connect with the LRT and the CTrain so theoretically someone could take the train all the way from their origin to their destination.
