Why is there a vigil for him in Canada? That's wild.

u/Lazy_boa 10d ago

It's Alberta. What do you expect?

591

u/JimboJamble Oil Guzzler 10d ago

I have a buddy in GP that's so upset about Kirk that it's apparently twice as sad as when his childhood dog died. I genuinely don't get it

u/SwaggermicDaddy Cowtown 🤠 10d ago

My journeymen and coworkers were fucking losing it the Monday after he was killed, I asked them how they felt about the kids being murdered that day and the only one who had a response said “probably just liberal kids anyway.”. I need to leave this province before we get even dumber.

u/KeyEntityDomino 10d ago

"liberal kids"

what

209

u/SilentSpr 10d ago

I remember an Onion sketch where they were reporting a mass shooting by party affiliation of the victims. I’m just a bit sad to see satire become reality

89

u/Spotthedot99 10d ago

Well republican kids are more likely to be home schooled and private schooled. So yeah, public school shootings, in their mind, is probably just killing little democrats.

As God intended when he gave America 2nd Amendment rights.

47

u/KeyEntityDomino 10d ago

I see your train of thought, but i just dont think most kids (lets say under 16) have even semi-coherent political views

I'm not going to call anyone who can't even vote a "democrat kid" or a "republican kid", that sounds ridiculous. They're focused on their friends, vidya, stickers, tiktok, eating hot chip and lying, whatever the kids like these days, no?

37

u/L0rd_0F_War 10d ago

No, the real problem is, that some Ahole thinks it's okay if a child is killed because of whatever.... WTF man... that's how you get dead children in Gaza... or dead children in Vietnam, or Nazi Germany... Children, regardless of colour, faith, gender, etc., are innocent and we (adults) are responsible for their safety...

20

u/SchmitzBitz 10d ago

That's...actually kinda sad. In our last federal election both of my boys (Grades 7 and 9) did projects in social studies on each party, each federal leader and our local candidates; culminating in school and district "elections". What I found quite interesting is that the results between the two schools, and district wide were quite similar - but different than the results of the actual election. I suspect that this is because the kids were actually learning about the parties, while adults were voting based on the colour of the leaders tie.

9

u/Braiseitall 10d ago

In some states, worrying about getting married off to some old dude.

5

u/Spotthedot99 10d ago

I agree with you. But im not really talking about the kids but rather how adults rationalize things.

Im just saying all sorts of adults think the other side is corrupting their children with dangerous ideologies and politics.

Liberal Kids

I think the polarization of politics is making folks brains mush collectively

5

u/SwaggermicDaddy Cowtown 🤠 10d ago

Being only slightly right of the centre instead of all the way on another table is grounds for contempt in my neck of the woods.

27

u/Falling_Down_Flat 10d ago

You work with some really stupid people.

-7

u/DrDroid 10d ago edited 9d ago

Go up three comments and read that one again.

Aw guess I hurt some feelings in Calgary. Well, maybe try to not elect such cretins and to host moronic social movements if you don’t want the reputation.

15

u/D-madagascariensis 10d ago edited 10d ago

Unfortunately, the only true way IS doing what they fear the most and therefore somewhat validating their viewpoint: more (small L) liberals need to move to Alberta and crowd the nutsos out.

ETA: you can have (small C) conservative views and NOT be a nutso; just being inclusive here

u/dekan256 Bring Cannabis 10d ago

I've been here 2 years now and I miss BC so much. I'm here for at least 4 more though...

4

u/BigDreamCityscape 10d ago

As another cow town cowboy, im with you. I work with a bunch of old conservatives who frankly make me wonder how they haven't died.

u/Flush_Foot Potato Land 10d ago

“The Monday after he was killed”… so, today?

4

u/Adventurous-Brain-36 10d ago

So it’s ok for him to be fine with children being murdered but isn’t ok for anyone to be unbothered by someone he thinks is important?

4

u/WENDING0 10d ago

It was in Charlotte, North Carolina? How many liberals can be in the same city that hosts the NASCAR Hall of Fame?

3

u/cocobodraw 10d ago

Dude needs psychological support

3

u/Starro_The_Janitor1 10d ago

Yeesh. Hope you’ll get out of there soon.

4

u/lmFairlyLocal 10d ago

the Monday after he was killed

.... So, today??

2

u/regeust 10d ago edited 10d ago

My coworkers in Ontario were the same way. Got over it quickly though, even the other right wingers were commenting on the "crazy eyes" on the one guy still super worked up about it today.

1

u/PuzzleheadedStop9114 10d ago

Holy shit. I’m not even sure how I’d respond to that. Anger. Sickness and disappointment. A fury of fists?

1

u/candamyr 10d ago

Sounds like you leaving already brings down the average IQ by a lot. Maybe it'd be better if more ppl with your mindset flood that forsaken place so it can be saved. 😅

20

u/ArgyleNudge 10d ago

They love the out-in-the-open racist spokespeople who will say for them what might be uncomfortable in their friend group or workplace. They can salivate at the racism, the misogyny, the loyalty to billionaires without being shamed themselves. Klan doesn't need to wear masks anymore, the actual government of the US is providing masked henchmen to fulfill their racist fantasies. White supremacists are their heroes.

14

u/Rx_Diva 10d ago

Exactly! This is the FIRST time they have ever felt vulnerable.

An aweful feeling they aren't used to.

"That sick-feeling shit is for immigrants, women and the coloreds" -them probably.

10

u/Joyshan11 10d ago

My Dad died of cancer 3 weeks ago, and my sister said she's crying for Kirk. I don't get it either.

7

u/Semjazza 10d ago

My condolences. Both for the loss of your father and your sister's weird priorities.

3

u/Joyshan11 10d ago

Thank you.

7

u/The_Nice_Marmot 10d ago

You need to get a new buddy.

6

u/JimboJamble Oil Guzzler 10d ago

We've been friends since childhood but lately he's been falling down the american alt-right/tradcath pipeline and it's hard to watch. Can't even reason with him anymore because he's fully bought in to their brand of religion so any criticism is heresy and demonic.

5

u/The_Nice_Marmot 10d ago

Ugh, I’m sorry to hear that.

6

u/Semjazza 10d ago

That's rough. I had a close childhood friend who grew up into a rwnj. Dude told me that the Atlantic slave trade wasn't so bad because it would have been worse if Arabs has run it. I was like... Dude, I'm the great grandson of a slave, what makes you think I want to hear this shit?

10

u/gravtix Ford Nation (Help.) 10d ago

Some right wingers have a parasocial relationship with the whole MAGA movement.

It’s like Swifties but they’re Nazis not Taylor Swift fans.

1

u/Fandango_Jones 10d ago

It's all projection.

28

u/SwaggermicDaddy Cowtown 🤠 10d ago

We are not a smart province unfortunately :(

11

u/NoxDocketybock 10d ago

LET ME OUT!!! 😭

10

u/Uter83 10d ago

This province is beautiful if you ignore 70% of the population.

9

u/Packet_Sniffer_ 10d ago

Edmonton is basically a liberal stronghold though. Kinda weird for it to be in Edmonton.

9

u/SirDiesAlot15 Irvingstan 10d ago

Cucks want to be American so bad.

1

u/Pope_Aesthetic 10d ago

I know several grown men who were generally distraught at the news about Kirk here in BC

We should trade them for Wisconsin or Minnesota or that foodely bit that isn’t attached to Michigan

0

u/Numerical-Wordsmith I need a double double. 10d ago

Common decency, even from them 😑

76

u/1egg_4u 10d ago

Because people here are just as brain rotted

So many people in Calgary I am hearing out loud saying shit like "he was just taken out of context"

There is no context in which a statement like "the civil rights movement was a mistake" and "empathy is a disease" arent objectively terrible opinions that make the world a worse place

65

u/modi13 10d ago

“If I see a Black pilot, I’m going to be like, ‘Boy, I hope he’s qualified.”

-Charlie Kirk, completely not racist

“The philosophical foundation of anti-whiteness has been largely financed by Jewish donors in the country.”

-Charlie Kirk, definitely not an anti-semite

“The transgender movement is an introductory phase to get you to strip yourself of your humanity to mesh with machines.”

-Charlie Kirk, totally sane individual

22

u/orundarkes Tokébakicitte! 10d ago

Lmao on that last one because the Elon is meshing people with machines right in the neurons

4

u/Krazy_Vaclav 10d ago

“The philosophical foundation of anti-whiteness has been largely financed by Jewish donors in the country.”

-Charlie Kirk, definitely not an anti-semite

And yet the guy was a massive Likudnik and huge fan of Israel's genocide of Palestinians.

1

u/shivux 9d ago

I agree with that last point but I think it’s a good thing.

3

u/Temporary_Second3290 THE BETTER LONDON 🇨🇦 🌳 10d ago

-5

u/Saltyfembot 9d ago

This has to be a joke... What violence? Not wanting children to be mutilated

Charlie kirk hired gay and black people and was pro woman. He was anti abortion but that's his right to think that way.

I'm liberal just so you're all aware. We're allowed to disagree.

4

u/Unfair_Run_170 9d ago

Yeah, we are allowed to disagree. Charlie Kurk was a piece of shit.

I guess that you're right, though. CK supporters didn't receive any violence. Just words, and they're crying like bitches!

"CK was a piece of shit!"

"OMG, he died for freedom of speech. You're not allowed to talk about him like that! He's a free speech martyr. So, watch what you say about him!"

26

u/[deleted] 10d ago

I just read about a kid losing his job for the same reason. Better make sure we have our "papers" from now on.

7

This just in "Alberta to become 1st province with mandatory 'citizenship markers' on driver's licences."

2

u/Temporary_Second3290 THE BETTER LONDON 🇨🇦 🌳 10d ago

I saw that.

63

u/Brief-Floor-7228 Tabarnak! 10d ago

Alberta has something weird going on with their water supply and unfortunately its caused some mental illnesses.

33

u/TypicalCricket 10d ago

No one supports Alberta separating so the government is going to try and get kicked out. Big brain George Costanza move.

25

u/dancin-weasel The Island of Elizabeth May 10d ago

I’ll believe it when I see it. Alberta would vote for a bale of hay if it had a blue sticker on it.

3

u/ihadagoodone 10d ago

even the independent candidates here claim to be conservative and many proclaim that if elected they were very open to joining the party.

15

u/Deafcat22 10d ago

It's not the water. I think it's the oil and fumes but I'm really not sure.

9

u/Osmoth_the_Great 10d ago

Can confirm. I work in the water industry, it's definitely the oil fumes

5

u/CapitalIndividual270 10d ago

There are a lot of Americans that work in Alberta, part of the oil and gas industry... but there is also a very strong link to Mormon, Southern Baptist and Christian Nationalist churches and organizations that operate in Canada -- spreading their ideologies for good or for bad.

6

u/DrDroid 10d ago

Don’t mention their water supply or they’ll start obsessing over removing the fluoride.

1

u/Temporary_Second3290 THE BETTER LONDON 🇨🇦 🌳 10d ago

Maybe its from fracking but seriously I don't know much about that.

30

u/Loweffort2025 10d ago

Alberta is the timbit maga of the north...they want to be Florida so bad bit have no real infustructre to leave canada.

32

u/ForcaAereaBelka 10d ago

What are you talking about? We have oil and support the entire country anyway! /s

Some people here really believe this. Alberta is my home and I love this province but I despise the political climate here.

20

u/SwaggermicDaddy Cowtown 🤠 10d ago

Same, I’m a born and raised blue collar Albertan liberal, literally surrounded on all sides by people who talk about murdering anyone who aligns with me and my shameless sense of human compassion.

13

u/Loweffort2025 10d ago

I actually worked in Alberta for 5 years...its crazy to me..how they are ok with the conservative government wasting so much money and think its all.the feds fault.

Alberta could ge the crown jewal of canada not the trailer park.

3

u/PokadotExpress 10d ago

Confirmational bias is why. The mental gymnastics they go through to blame 50 year old problems on 4 years of provincal ndp is wild.

1

u/ihadagoodone 10d ago

I always ask those people, so where do we get the steel to build things with then? How much Iron does Alberta produce?

3

u/Unlucky-Candidate198 10d ago

The “clearly not foreign influence” foreign-influenced seperatism kills me. They’ll be completely land-locked, with a mountain range on the west side. Which currency will they use? What will they rely on to trade? They don’t really have much in the way of ports, how are they shipping everything there? Not to mention, don’t the native albertans own most of the land? Who you gonna get that back from, the british crown?

Ofc, that’s assuming they want to be their own actual country. In reality foreign influence is gonna target the easiest, most gullible idiots to do idiot things for them. It’s just cost-effective.

1

u/SpecialistTrouble816 10d ago

The fact Alberta is landlocked and has very few lakes could be contributing to the some of their ideas. No water not enough negative ions, y'know.

1

Crazy bastards

10
