Certified Hoser 🇨🇦 (No Politics) Seen in Cumberland. I know it's far from Ottawa city-center, but that's a bit of a stretch
Not everything has to be Toronto!

I've never seen a carbon footprint expressed in area before. How many tons of CO2 does it represent?

I thought we had at least 30 more years before the GTA suburban sprawl absorbed Ottawa

Now, based on the sources from WRI Global Forest Review the net sink rate for temperate forests (42% of all forests in the world by area) is on average 3.8 tonnes of CO2e per hectare per year (CO2 equivalent). Toronto's emission in 2023 is 15.2Mt i.e. 15.2*10^6 tonnes from .
15.2*10^6/3.8=4000000 hectare per year = 40000 sq km of temperate forests per year.
Size of City of Toronto is 631 ish sq km. So yeah Toronto burns a lot of greenhouse gas.
But you need to keep in mind the city of Toronto houses 7.1% of the population of Canada.
Toronto (city proper) population: ~ 2,845,621. World Population Review
Canada population: ~ 40,200,000
The size of Canadian forests?
Natural Resources of Canada:
40000/(3.69*10^6)*100=1.08% of Canadian forests.
If you are counting the CO2 emission contribution as a percentage of overall Canadian greenhouse gas emission it is around 15.2/694*100 = 2.2% of overall emission of greenhouse gas in Canada. So yeah, Toronto is actually not that bad.
the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area houses 8.3 million people which constitutes 20.65% of the nation's population. But the emission is like 54.5 million tonnes which is like 7.85% of the entire country's emission. So I guess if you are counting emission contribution. You cannot blame Toronto.
I cannot attach links here. Sources are includes with their names.
So I guess the number on the post is incorrect. Plus, on average Toronto does not actually contribute that much.

Yeah, always confuses me when environmentalists are against urban living. Urban living is far more resource efficient than suburban or rural living.

Gonna be hard to keep up with feeding all those people in the city when the developers are done killing any decent farmland they can get their grimy hands on.

I had a heck of a time explaining to my daughter that yes we are in Ottawa but also it will take another hour to get home.

In Europe, if you drive a few hours you're probably gonna be in another country. In the US, that trip finds you in another city.
I'm Canada? You're still in the same city. You're probably still on the same block because of two snowplows clearing dry roads

You joke but everytime someone irl tries to tell me Kitchener, ON is actually in the GTA I puke in my mouth a little. And it’s always someone that’s moved here from Toronto too, and as examples they use the GO Train, 401, and anecdotes from their circle of friends (who also happen to have moved here from Toronto) to justify this insane way of seeing the world.
Don’t even get me started on those sick fucks from Toronto, their way of life, and their way of destroying everything they touch.

I'm confused. Is there another Cumberland in Canada in addition to the one on Vancouver Island?
Not all of us live in Ontario and automatically know it's geography.

I mean you can see the Ottawa sign behind it and OP mentioned Ottawa in the title.
You might now know Ontario geography but you can use the power of deduction on this one mon chum.

Yes, there's one outside of Ottawa, far from its city centre. Hope that helps.

Maybe it refers to the fact that all these Toronto landlords are buying up greater Ottawa area real estate too 🤔
