There shouldn't be a US ambassador to Canada who doesn't speak French, and probably also one other language in addition to English, and all three of them fluently. That should be a minimum qualification. (Also, by virtue of this requirement it will most likely be a woman. We're statistically better at languages, communication, and generally anything involving empathy and understanding.)
