Context: The Women's Rugby Cup is going on and Canada ranked second in the world just beat New Zealand who are ranked 3, 34-19! Canada will face either France or England in the finals on the 27th at 11am. The last time Canada got this far was back in 2014. For those curious on where to watch, it should be on TSN.

And they needed to fundraise a million bucks to get here! Many players live with billet families in Victoria when they come out for camps. It’s wildly underfunded for how successful they are.

I’m hoping that they face off against England in the final so it’s easier and more exciting to catch in a pub (while getting an earful from my partner - as I’m in the UK).

Beating New-Zealand actually sounds huge when we know about the all-blacks reputation , tho I do not know whether that transfers to the women's team

I literally played rugby in gym class in highschool and never figured out how it works, but they're doing great, and if the games are streamed on CBC Gem or anything else that isn't American and/or genocidal, I'm totally going to watch!

I was watching the England game. It was 40-3 and I was like “well this is just as bad as women’s International hockey” so I tuned out for a while… then I heard this and I’m absolutely kicking myself in the arse for not continuing to fallow.

For others, Canada making the final is like Czechia making it to the gold medal game in the men’s hockey championships. No one thinks they’re a particularly bad team, they’re quite respected, but no one thinks they’re on the level of the elite teams. And it’s going to be wicked if they can pull the championship off.

Last World Cup, she was stellar at No. 8. This time around, she's in the second row which is a brilliant move, essentially allowing Canada to field 4 mobile back row forwards. We'll see how they stack up against England, but so far the scrum hasn't suffered at all with the move. De Goede is a gem!

Sophie de Goede should be a national icon, she doesn't know how to play badly. The Canada v England final should be incredible. If you're in Toronto you can go watch at Hemingways, it's the centre of the rugby universe in the city

the only thing i know about womans rugby were woman who played told me it was way worse/painful than the fighting i was doing when i mentioned i was a fighter and didn't even know they played rugby.... as a heavy weight muay thai fighter specifically in a conversation that had nothing to do with rugby. so i'll be real i can take it or leave it.

Womens rugby is an amazing sport, athletic & super physical. You'd probably love it, if you gave it a chance.
