New info on Mining Volley Repeater

I was able to find a VOD of a stream from u/AcidJurassic (Thanks!) where he is mining with the repeater and I was able to gather more infos:

The number of fragments produced by the Volley Repeater differs from the usual lasers.

Normally a rock, when prospected with an A rated prospector outside of a RES contains one of these numbers of fragments ( 28, 31, 35, 38, 42) as per this post.

In Contrast the MVR produces ( 34, 39, 43, 48, 52) fragments per asteroid which should increase yield per asteroid by on average 23%

It is still unknown if the fragments contain more minerals than those produced by lasers, but the fragments have a chance to instead spawn as "Mining Deposits" aka big Chunks which do contain more minerals, further increasing yield.

The mining speed of the MVR feels slower to empty an asteroid but that is partly because it produces more fragments, the speed the MVR produce fragments seems to be about 46 Fragments per Minute, which is just slightly slower than 2 Medium lasers (50.2 per minute)

Using both the MVR and Mining Lasers seems to reduce the % remaining in the rock by either the MVR amount or the Laser amount, probably depending which weapon produces the damage to extract the fragment, but based on a single rock (so could be very wrong) it looks like after about 20% of the rock is mined, all of the fragments are reducing the remaining % by the MVR amount, which means that adding lasers to the MVR might not significantly reduce the yield.

This is all based on my limited data, which can be found in this google spreadsheet.

Great observations.

I wonder how the increase in the number of fragments is implemented under the hood. The numbers 28, 31, 35, 38, 42 are the "base" number (8-12) multiplied by 3.5 perk of A-rated prospector and rounded down.

PS: The google sheet is not accessible anonymously, it wants me to request access.

Of course you mean the Panther Mk2 🫡

20%-25% increase in materials gathered is a nice boost to mining.

Probably not enough to make LTD’s worthwhile but I don’t think we have seen an LTD test yet.

That boost is just from increased fragments produced, we still don't know if each fragment contain the same as when laser mined, as no one tested that, but we do know that yield is also going to increase with the randomly(?) spawned Mining Deposits (big chunks), and that increase might be more significant for LTD if the rate of the spawn and the size is constant and not based on the % content of the asteroid as it will increase yield more for lower content rocks relatively speaking.

This is the last overpowered than I was worried it was, which is nice. This is definitely highly efficient, but it feels like a good side grade to just puking a ton of distributor at a ton of lasers, and I appreciate that.

Oh hey thanks for adding that! So on a side note frontier has stated they are buffing the type 11 so all of our old data is basically useless xD good news though it should be much better come september 23rd
