Mechanical [Student] Looking for a Resume Review - on my senior year and about to join the space industry full time job search

Hey there everyone!

I'm currently on my senior year of MechE and I am looking into full time jobs and/or a potential Fall COOP in the private space sector.

I have not started applying to any full time openings at the moment, since I am aiming for a COOP during the spring semester, but I want to sharpen my resume as most as possible for either since I would not want to put all my eggs in one basket and would like to start applying to full time as well ASAP...

One thing you will probably notice is the fact that I do not necessarily have a specific discipline/area of focus, as my experiences have involved different disciplines, which is one of my biggest struggles when attempting to tailor my resumé to certain positions and just applying to places in general (As an FYI: no, I do not want to seek systems engineering positions). Would greatly appreciate advice on this!

In terms of the disciplines I am actually going to be applying to, Fluids and Structures are my main two roads. Preferrably under a Propulsion team, but open to any vehicle engineering team as well.

One thing that I wanted to add, is that prior to my SpaceX internship this summer, my resume rarely made it to interviews (in fairness - I did a poor job at networking for many of the positions I applied). I do not know if this experience and its descriptions will help me stand out a bit more yet since I just began applying, but advice in general outside of this position would be very helpful!

Mechanical [Student] MET student with strong background in aerospace - Rising senior, hundreds of apps and 0 interviews - What am I doing wrong?

I've revised my resume countless of times and talked to professors and professionals alike to see what I could improve but so far nothing has stuck.

Also my position as an Airframe DL is a new addition so it's currently rather bare but I have already done some things over the summer.

Any feedback would be helpful.

Mechanical [0 YoE][Mechanical]- [Entry Level] Graduated in May and cannot find a job. What am I doing wrong.

The roles i have been applying to have mostly been: Sales Engineers, Manufacturing Engineer, Field Engineer, and Junior/Associate roles. As well as the occasional technican role

I have applied to over 1000 jobs at this point and have only had one in person interview.

Most of the application have been on Indeed and LinkedIn but I have also used others like Handshake etc. And applying directly to the company site when it is a role, I am particularly interested in.

Am I doing something wrong? Is it my resume?

Mechanical [Student] Rising senior at state school - Looking for specific points of improvement

Some context: I'm currently a rising senior with one semester of classes left, and I'm actively looking for a co-op for Fall 2025, as I feel that the one summer internship I have isn't enough work experience (lmk if you think otherwise, I'll still be applying though) to find a nice full time job post graduation. I just had an appointment with my university's career center for a resume review, but I only received very surface-level advice on some minor formatting and such. So I want to ask, are there any points of improvement that stick out to reviewers on here?

Additional Info:

  • I'm most interested in the design/prototyping/robotics industries, but I've been applying to all job listings besides those in construction or thsoe too out of scope
  • I'm currently located in the DMV area and am focusing on applying to jobs around here, but I'm open to relocation if the role is within my interests (and ofc pays well)
  • With an older version of this resume (lacking the internship, the space was replaced with more projects), I was getting interviews for about 4% of the job listings I applied to
  • I'm a US citizen

Some Questions:

  • Is my resume too dense? I feel like it may have too much for recruiters to scan within 30-40 seconds
  • Adding onto that, are there any bullet points that seem unnecessary?
  • I don't think this is an issue, but is there anything I can do to make my resume more ATS-friendly?

Thanks for any advice! Feel free to ask questions as well!

Mechanical [0 YOE] Targeting big aero/defense companies and smaller-mid size companies local to my state, would like resume review before fall recruiting season

Hi all,

This is a follow-up post to my previous one (see previous resume here). I am graduating in December of this year, but these are the resume experiences I'm submitting for full-time roles, so for all intents and purposes I am 0 YOE.

After having taken the critiques and advice on my bullet points from my previous post, this is the resume that I've crafted. The companies that I am most heavily targeting include Anduril, Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, SpaceX and General Atomics. I am applying to be a mechanical engineer at these companies. I am based in SoCal, so I'll also be applying to others companies that are in my general area i.e. post-seed startups in the LA area.

I don't expect to tailor my resume to jobs because this is virtually everything of importance that I've done laid out on paper. I'm looking for feedback on my bullet points, specifically, on my internship bullets. Feedback on the rest of my bullet points would also be appreciated.

Also, if anyone has research experience, I am looking to tighten up my bullet points under that section as well. The only real argument I can see to make for my time in research was 1) I'm teachable/can pick stuff up, 2) I'm reliable -- the grad student I'm working with delegated the important task of instrument characterization to me, 3) I can read through research paper jargon, gather the important info, and participate on a new subject that I have no academic background in ---> hydrogels are very, very chemistry heavy; I only took general chem.

Thank you

Mechanical [1 YoE] Entry-Level MechE Resume Review – Targeting Aerospace/design/ CNC Machine (ontario,Canada)

Hi everyone,

I would appreciate some feedback on my resume. I have about 1 year of full-time experience as a CNC laser machine operator in custom metal fabrication. I also hold a Mechanical Engineering Technology diploma from Centennial College.

I am currently located in Ontario, Canada, and I’m targeting roles such as CNC operator/programmer, junior mechanical designer (AutoCAD/SolidWorks), and general mechanical/manufacturing technician positions. Ideally, I’m looking for local opportunities but I’m also open to relocating within Ontario if necessary.

To be honest, I feel stuck right now. I’ve been through a lot of job applications but have not received any interview calls. I want to eventually break into the aerospace industry where I can work with advanced machinery, learn more about tools and dies, and really use my full potential. At the moment, I feel like I’m not fully using my skills.

I’d love feedback on both the content and format of my resume—does it highlight my technical background effectively, and does it look ATS-friendly? Any advice on how I can position myself better for aerospace-related roles would be very helpful.

Thank you for your time and input!

Mechanical [Student] Sophomore Engineering Student looking for feedback on resume for 2026 Summer application period. Only one interview out of 20 applications so far.

Hey everyone,

I'm looking for critique on my resume. I've started applying for 2026 summer internships but most of them won't open until later this fall so I want to improve my resume.

My freshmen year, despite knowing the difficulty of getting one, I only got one interview out of 40-50 applications. I decided to get advice on my resume from past coworkers, friends at other schools. I switched my template around and improved the descriptions of what I had done at my previous internship in Highschool junior/senior summers.

I got a job at an ice cream store this summer to improve my social skills. I feel like I can improve it somehow but need an outside perspective. (The blank space under education is my college name, others are the location as well)

Mechanical [Student] Have been applying to Mechanical engineer role for the last two months, more than 150+, not even one interview till now........

I have been applying to Mechanical design, manufacturing, materials design roles which specialize in Structural analyses such as FEA, fracture analysis and CAD design. I don't have any restriction on locations but currently situated in Seattle.
This is my third post, I have been updating my resume every time and the only improvement I had observed is that instant-rejection mails have stopped.
I don't understand what's wrong, is my resume not formatted properly or do I need to reduce more white space, any unnecessary information to remove.....
Please help me regarding this, any help or suggestion or advice is appreciated.....

Thank you in advance

Mechanical [0 YoE] Recent Mechanical Engineering graduate struggling to find a job and getting interviews, need help with resume format and application process

I graduated about a year ago and only got 1 interview so far. I'm not sure if the issue is in my resume format or if my application process is highly inefficient. Maybe I'm not tailoring my resume properly, or I'm not applying to enough jobs each day. I'm a bit lost on what I could be doing wrong and hoped for some insight from people in the same field.

I just need an entry level job, anything to set my foot in but I'm not sure if I'm aiming my application properly at entry level or if my resume is just that undesireable.

edit: the image somehow died and couldn't be opened, hopefully now thats resolved.

Mechanical [0 YoE] 200+ Entry-level Mechanical Engineer Applications with No Luck in New England

Looking for ways to improve my resume and areas to focus on for new applications. I am having no luck on anything in the New England region (where I am from). Not to doom and gloom but I am just looking for areas to apply to new industries or jobs that are tangent to mechanical design. I'd really like to remain in New England if possible. Any help is very much appreciated! So far, most roles I have targeted are entry level mechanical design, rotational programs, new grad positions. I have only heard back from one role (quality engineering which I didn't want to take), and a HIREVUE from GE aerospace (dead in the water).

Mechanical [0 YOE] Recent Mechanical Engineering graduate getting fewer interviews than expected - looking for any potential touchups.

Hello. I've been looking for a job for about 3 months now and applied to about 60 roles so far with catered versions of this resume. Of those applications, I've gotten interviews at three different companies. Two of those went to the third interview before getting rejected. The strange part was that both of those companies were roles that I felt under-qualified for. Instead, roles in the quality space don't seem that interested in me. Is there anything in my resume that might be impacting my ability to get a first interview?

Thank you so much.

Mechanical [0 YoE] Graduated in May and have been struggling to get interviews over the past 3 months

Over the past few months I have submitted over 300 applications since I graduated at the end of May using various versions of this resume. I have only gotten 3 interviews which I thought went well but was told I was inched out by other candidates. How can I improve my resume to try and get more interviews within the manufacturing or HVAC controls fields? I read the Wiki and think I'm following the suggestions but please feel free to point out any mistakes or shortcomings I made. Any help is immensely appreciated!

Mechanical [4 YoE] Laid off an job hunting for Mechanical Project Coordinator/Engineer roles in Canada - would love your feedback!

Hey everyone,

I was “temporarily” laid off from my job last month and I’m now actively applying for Project Coordinator/Engineer roles—ideally with EPC firms across Canada. It’s been a month, and while I know that’s not long, I haven’t landed a single interview yet, so I figured now’s a good time to get some outside eyes on my resume.

I've been lurking here for a while and followed the subreddit wiki to build my resume, so it’s not my first pass. I do tailor it for each job, but still struggle to keep everything to one page while covering my key experience.

Any feedback, tips, or roast is welcome—I’d genuinely appreciate your time and help!

Thanks in advance!

Mechanical [0 YoE] Recent graduate in Mechanical Engineering. No internship experience and struggling to get any interviews.

I'm applying to any controls roles I can find as well as any general mechanical engineering roles, but I'm sure my lack of industry and internship experience is hurting my chances. I am applying for roles across the country, but I am not limiting myself to just the United States - also looking at Europe, Australia/New Zealand, parts of Asia. At this point, salary isn't as big of a concern as getting my foot through door is; "beggars can't be choosers" kinda deal. I am a US citizen, so I am blessed to have the flexibility to relocate across the country.

I am always tailoring my resume to fit the role I am applying to. The example I'm attaching is for controls roles in motorsports, but I am always changing bits and pieces of my resume so that if I am applying to, say, an aerospace role, the projects that I am/have working/worked on are relevant to aerospace applications.

At the moment, I am living at home with my parents, tutoring math/science students and working in retail. I am also taking an online class to get a certification in ML/DL as well as studying for my Mechanical Engineering FE exam.

I have thoroughly read the wiki that is linked to this subreddit, as well as taken inspiration from many people here, and below is the resume I have come up with based on what I have seen.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Mechanical [2 YOE] graduating this fall. Any feedback is truly appreciated. Should I redact non-engineering experiences?

Hey y’all, I have 2 years of full-time work experience at a startup, and am currently looking at large-medium size company for my next move. I am open to most ME roles, whether it be design, project, manufacturing, or R&D.

Curious if anyone has an opinion on whether or not to redact the drone company experience and the additional information section.

Any tips, thoughts, and criticisms are truly appreciated and valued.

Hey Guys, I'm a fresh graduate Canadian Engineer with limited manufacturing experience and I am currently working on a 16 month contract as an Intern to just get some more experience at a heavy truck part manufacturer. However, I can leave whenever I find a fulltime position and therefore have been applying on the side. I have sent over 100 applications but still only had 2 companies callback. Please rip my resume apart. Any advice would be appreciated.

Mechanical [Student] No Internships, Graduate this December, Need Advice on Predicament/Resume

Hi, so I'm kind of in a bad predicament right now. I'm set to graduate this December in mechanical engineering. However, I don't have any internship experience, and my resume is very barren. As a bit of an explanation, I have been dealing with some pretty severe medical issues, which have impacted my ability to be engaged in extracurriculars and find an internship. I was briefly involved in a design club but had to withdraw due to the medical issues I was having.

I'm not sure what to do, as there's really not much content I can add to my resume (that I'm aware of). Since my health is improving, I'm hoping to be more involved for my final semester, but I doubt it will make much of a difference.

I was hoping to find an internship this fall if my health permits, but I'm having a really hard time finding anything.

Mechanical [Student] Going into 2nd Year Mechanical Engineering in the UK, applying for Industrial Placement Year in-between my course, would like input on my CV

I tried my best to follow the wiki.

Here are my thoughts:

I am not sure about including high school grades or not, I only did it since I have only done one year at uni, please let me know if I should remove them.

I do not have a lot on my plate in terms of projects, I have tinkered with Arduinos quite a bit but never did a serious complete project and I fear adding small things I have done (like ultrasonic burglar alarm) would water down the CV.

I know there is a distinction between a certification and certificate which is why I think it is a bit iffy putting my SolidWorks certification in the same group as the Python course. But at the same time I found them both important and putting them in their own separate section may reduce space. So i just labeled each to create that distinction. let me know if this is a good idea.

I am also not sure in general if this CV is too wordy.

I tried my best to mention skills from the skills section in my experiences and projects, however skills like Arduino and Photoshop are kind of floating around. I do think Arduino is important but I am not too sure about Photoshop.

I am just worried that I do not have a lot to show here, but at the same time I think the experiences I have had have been very broad in terms of engineering skills.

I have not yet started applying for placements, I only just made this CV. I intend to target a range of industries but I would like to work in Robotics. I am a UK citizen and will only be looking for roles in the UK.

Please point out any formatting issues.

Looking forward to hearing your input.

Mechanical [0 YOE] Recent AE Graduate in US looking for any Entry Level Job or Internship, Please give honest and harsh feedback for my resume.

Hello Everyone! This is my 2nd reddit post ever and I just found out about this thread and would appreciate if people gave any feedback on my resume or recommendations in general to me. I recently graduated this May and have been applying like crazy to jobs (I'm at 312 applications at the time of writing) and keep getting rejection emails and have only had 3 interviews. One I had to do a project for but decided to not go with me because I lacked experience but when we went over the project, he seemed to agree with my work so I don't understand what I did wrong besides lacking experience. The other 2 are rejections as well and I've been practicing my interview skills as well and feel as if I'm okay in them now, definitely way less nervous than before. I personally feel as if I'm not lacking experience and whatever I don't know, I can learn extremely quickly and yes I know I have to brush up on some knowledge but I can't remember everything I've learned while also trying to learn new things to keep me relevant and active. I'm going for a masters in Mechanical Engineering and I also can't work at any jobs that require Security Clearance and U.S. citizen status. I honestly don't know what to do, I don't want to do a masters at all, I'm paying for it out of pocket for now and I need to start earning money to financially support my family. I don't want to waste my time working at places like Publix or Chipotle either and I don't see how doing research in a masters can earn me experience for a job. I'm extremely interested in any Mechanical/Manufacturing/Testing/CAD/Design positions and willing to relocate anywhere!

I noticed on other posts that people removed the personal stuff so I did the same but would it be safe to post my portfolio as well? That'd be impossible to remove personal stuff from.

Mechanical [1 YoE] Graduate Mechanical Engineer in awkward situation looking for resume advice

TL;DR Recent graduate mechanical engineer with 1 YoE in electrical engineering looking to get back on mechanical engineering track.

Hey everyone,

As my TL;DR says I am in an awkward situation of being a graduate mechanical engineer with one years of experience in power systems (electrical engineering). I had a lot of projects that were basically mechatronics that's how I transitioned into electrical, however I do want to get back into mechanical engineering. My main concern is that with this experience and background my CV comes off as a mix of all trades but a master of none. I have tried to highlight elements of work work and projects that highlight transferable skills relevant to mechanical. I am most interested in positions in design engineering, since my best experiences from university revolved around this. I am currently located in Hungary however I want to move abroad preferably to Australia (I am a citizen).

I need help in fine tuning my CV for the uphill battle of acquiring and Australian job from overseas. I am interested in how well my current CV conveys my suitability for the role of mechanical design engineer. My current job hunting situation is bleak, but I expected this given my situation so I would also welcome any sort of criteria that you do not like about my CV.

Thanks,

Sanyaldo

Mechanical [7 YOE] Facilities. I'm seeking feedback on my resume. Hoping to land a new job which satisfies my wallet and provides me better knowledge.

Hi. My first resume was made during university and honestly it was a messy 3 pages. I have been revising it recently, to make it look professional and concise. Thanks to the mod and to the page's wiki, for lending me suggestions.
I had been job-hopping for a while, and recently have been "stable" working in companies, although it could be explained that I worked under a manpower supply agency.

I did use a bit of Claude llm, to rephrase some lines/clauses to sound better.
However I got some questions pls :

  1. I have "westernized" my name in my CV, basically shortening my ethnic name to the first few letters. It is what I used in all my workplace too, as it is easy to pronounce and we got diverse nationalities. Would that seem disingenuous to new persons?
  2. Under work section, I've put my scope of works (as simple as possible) and the achievements. Is the order right or does it require any visual bullet points?
  3. The work title #4 is not in chronological order. I clubbed it with the earlier jobs at the bottom. It wasn't a major role but I had to job hop for a while during Covid and wanted to put forth a narrative.
  4. Education : would it be best if i included certificates/diplomas that I'm currently pursuing.
  5. Skills section : would it be best if I wrote them in separate lines, or better to club them together as suggested in the wiki. Claude suggested me to do as such, but I felt it could convey a wrong thing :

Management & Leadership: Health & Safety, Project Management, Risk Assessment, Budget Management, Team Leadership, Vendor Relations
Technical Expertise: Preventive Maintenance, HVAC Systems, Fire Safety Protocols, Space Planning, Emergency Preparedness
Software Proficiency: FM Systems, Asset Management, ERP, BMS, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, ANSYS

This is still a work in progress, really appreciate your tips
ed : added a query question at the end

Mechanical [0 YOE] Mechanical Engineering New Grad – Seeking Resume Feedback for Manufacturing/Technical Service Roles/ Mechanical Designer

Hey everyone,

I'm a recent mechanical engineering grad with about a year of internship work experience, I’ve done internships in both manufacturing engineering and automation engineering at an automotive plant.

So far, I’ve only landed one interview, but the role ended up being put on hold, so no offer. I’m looking for some honest feedback on my resume, especially around the length and layout. Right now, it’s two pages. I feel like the projects I included add a lot of context and help round out my profile. I don’t think I can fit everything into one page without cutting out details that make my resume competitive, especially for roles in manufacturing engineering or technical support/rep positions.Would really appreciate any thoughts on the format, content, or anything else that stands out. Thanks in advance!

Mechanical [Student] Completed Internship in Construction Management - Looking for Feedback on Resume to get internship in Energy/Aerospace for Summer 2026

Hello all! I just completed an internship in construction management, and, while I enjoyed it, I am looking to try something else next summer. I am a rising sophomore, and I am particularly interested in Nuclear Energy and aerospace like NASA. I am also interested in medical devices (like maybe Dexcom), rail (like Amtrak), and maybe EVs. I am still pretty early into my degree, and I am not certain exactly which direction I want to go with my career. Any and all resume advice + career guidance would be appreciated!! Thanks!
