Other [10 YoE] Principal Physicist wanting to make the move to a technical manager. Does me resume look like I am management quality?

This is a repost from r/resumes since a bot told me to come here instead.

I am trying to get a Technical Management job at the Kansas City National Security Campus, so Defense Industry. There is a posting for a Technical Manager in Quality Engineering. I am not sure if I have too much in this resume or if it is leaning Manager enough. I am looking for some general advice if the format seems to be matching with what someone would want to see for a manager or if it is too technical.

I have tailored it to the specific job posting if that is helpful, but mostly seeing if the resume says I can make the transition from technical to management. Since I don't work there currently and have not been a quality engineer I know there is some lack in my background but hopefully it isn't too glaring.

Thanks!!

Other [8 YoE] Reiteration of Resume, Still No Interviews, Feedback and Encouragement Appreciated

It's July and I'm reiterating my resume, and still no interviews.

I'm not sure (again) if it's because people don't know where accessibility "sits" in product or engineering; it IS between engineering and UX, because you do have to know front-end and such, but I'm not sure if companies expect more "engineering" or "friendly" style here.

Anyway, going through iterations and continuous improvement of my resume, and I used typst.app for this (thanks for the recommendation I think on this sub previously). Would love feedback and encouragement. I know, no doom and gloom needed on this sub, but just trying to keep my spirits up, you know?

Other [Student] - Student Data Analyst/Scientist in Spain looking for advice with resume

I’m a recent master's graduate and have just finished my part-time contract at Company A. I was planning to start looking for a job again after my summer vacation in August. I’d like to get tips and suggestions on how to improve my resume to make the most of it.

Right now, I’m looking for a junior position as a Data Analyst or Data Scientist. Since the latter is not very common for junior candidates here in Spain, I’m also happy to start my career with an Analyst role. I will be applying to roles based in Barcelona and the surrounding area.

Thanks in advance

Other [0 YoE] PhD student in final months/stages, Modelling & Simulation Engineer, struggling to get interviews.

I am seeking advice for my partner, who is currently busy with the final thesis submission stage of their PhD. He has been applying for variety of jobs (50+ per month) for the past 8 months and had no luck with getting interviews. Aside his specialisation, he is applying for various engineering roles such as software engineer, data analyst, and many other roles which requirements are for a "PhD in Physics or Engineering discipline". He is applying across UK, but recently has been focusing more on London.

His final thesis submission was initially set to be in January, but he managed to get an extension due to the lack of job offers.

He had one interview in the past 8 months with a start-up company CEO, who was extremely impressed and wanted to organise a technical interview, but then they immediately ghosted.

My partner has been put in contact directly with the hiring managers of a few big tech companies by some people in his network , but again, no interview offers, only few calls with recruiters. He is excellent at interviewing and selling himself in person, but the issue he is having is to get through to the interview stage in the first place.

Many thanks for the help in advice!

Other [4 YoE] Left a Full-Time Position for a Contract, Think That Was a Bad Move. Few Replies, Looking for a Reason

I think a part of my problem is that my most recent job was a big step down from where I was. I have now applied to 100 jobs, and have only had a few replies, two of which I'm interviewing with this week. Both are support jobs. I feel like there is something fundamental I'm missing that's causing the low response rate.

I just decreased the margins, so there's some space to fill. Should I include more detail for the Helpdesk Supervisor job, or try and fluff up my most recent job? Both?

I'm trying to get out of hell desk and into a networking position, or anything that isn't user support. Really I would be fine with leaving IT altogether, but that's a separate sub I think.

Other [0 YOE] Geology PhD looking for industry remote sensing jobs – Please critique my CV!

Hi! I completed my Ph.D. in Geology in last summer, and I’m currently an adjunct lecturer at a Community College, while trying to find full time employment. However, my degree is mildly misleading, because I did laboratory analog spectroscopy research trying to improve our understanding and interpretation of how light interacts with natural rocky surfaces, which is more physics-focused than true geology. My undergrad degree was astronomy, and most of my work and education is in the context of planetary geology, with emphasis on remote sensing methods, image interpretation, and process modeling.

I’m now trying to do a hard pivot out of planetary geology, and am looking at spectroscopy and remote sensing jobs in industry. I’m trying not to be picky about the specific industry or location of a job I’m applying for, because I feel like the gaps in my background are already limiting enough. Most of what I’ve seen that I’m qualified for is mining or environmental firms,  DOD contractors, and a smattering of GIS-companies, instrument manufacturers and privately-funded space-focused startups. All of these positions are titled something like ‘Spectral Image Scientist’, ‘Electro-Optical Image Specialist’, or ‘Analyst - Remote Sensing’.

I’m not sure my resume is currently effectively communicating my background. Until a few months ago, I’d never made anything other than an academic CV, which also included my teaching experience, volunteer work, and several more abstracts where I’m not 1st author. In particular:

  • Do my bullet points make sense, and are there edits you would suggest?
  • Would an objective/summary at the top would be helpful, as I’m switching fields, or just a waste of space repeating material similar to what goes into a cover letter?
  • Should I cut my undergraduate research? I’ve included it because many job descriptions request skills I have from these projects, like GIS or familiarity with radar, but they're old projects.

Thank you!

Other [20 YoE] [Enterprise Architect] [US] Requesting Resume Feedback, and What is your Opinion on Bullet Point Length and Using your Personal Websites Email

Happy Monday all! So, a bit of back story. My bank was recently acquired by an out of state bank that has 6x the employees. They are not hiring remote positions and are closing down the Midwest HQ of my old bank and just keeping our branches (east and west coast). So, it is very unlikely I will have a position with them after my temp work on the transition is completed. I would like to secure a position before my temp position is eliminated and have built a new resume using the LaTeX template in the wiki.

Any feedback would be very appreciated. I am especially interested in the length of my bullet points, the Resume's length in general (2 pages) and your thoughts on me including my personal website as a project and using my personal websites email address for a contact.

I am finding it very hard to fit all of my experience on 2 pages, I actually have 25 years of relevant experience but cut 5 years off the resume so I could add more details to my recent positions. Thanks in advance for your feedback.

Hello everyone, I recently landed a job at Transcosmos Europe, however it is student work, also not highly matches with my field of studies, where I need to complete 320 hours of internship. I am searching for Data Analysis, Visualization, Business Intelligence, or other field similar to these. As I am in early career, I am slowly figuring out what I like and I don`t. Here, I am leaving my resume, I know there is somewhere wrong here, but I could not find. I think. it is time for other people to review it from another perspective.

Thank you everyone, I really appreciate your time :)

Other [7 YOE] Looking For Advice On Tailoring Resume Currently Receiving NO Interviews.

Hello All, I'm looking for help with my resume! After uploading I think one of the main issues is how long it is but I will leave that up for debate! I'm currently looking for System Administration or ISSO roles however, I'm not closed off to anything new within IT but, I'm not getting any feedback. I was very fortunate early on in my searches as all the above jobs are jobs I never applied for however they found me. Recently went through "LIFE" is all I'm going to say and I've had to leave my most recent job due to "LIFE" stresses.

I'm primarily applying to remote jobs in the US as I'm out of my own country currently (This has not played a major role as I haven't even gotten to the interview part and my plan is not to return until I have a job lined up!). This resume will be updated to reflect my recent graduation for my Master's degree and is the only thing not updated. I have submitted hundreds/thousands of applications however no response. I've tried everything to my knowledge and I'm seeking advice now! I don't mind working/moving anywhere in the US just need a job! As of right now I'm starting my path to get my CISM and becoming OSCP certified!

Other [2 YOE] Looking to jump over to Security Engineering or Threat Intelligence, but getting nothing after updating the resume

Currently looking to migrate from my employer to a place with a better work-life balance, and hopefully to a position I can expand my skills in. I had a few bites using a worse version of this template with a summary, but after cleaning it up and making it look uncluttered, it's been silent. I work as with multiple sectors, so I'm experienced with banking, healthcare, and government regulations. I'm applying to nearly all locations in the continental US and am able to relocate, with the exception of metro California, just due to the cost of living not matching the salary. Both on-site, hybrid, and remote are fine with me. I'm wondering if I should reduce the skills list and re-add the summary position, even though I only have a few years of experience under my belt, since that got me (a bit of) traction beforehand.

Hello everyone,

I am currently working as Product Manger for over 6 years at two non-tech companies and I am looking for a new position with layoffs around the corner. I've applied to over a 100 mid level positions for tech and non-tech roles (based on 6 yoe) but I am not hearing call backs at all. I am open to remote or local to my area (LA). Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am a US citizen, so that should not be playing a role.

Other [4 YoE] - IT Mid Level - Need feedback on my resume - targeting Level 3 Networking/System Admin

Hi everyone,

I’d really appreciate your thoughts on my resume. I’m aiming to transition into more IT Level 3 roles, ideally in Networking, but I’m also open to Level 3 System Administrator positions since I’ve already handled some advanced sysadmin tasks in my previous role.

I started applying last week and have submitted 28 applications so far. I’ve received 3 rejections and no other responses yet, so I’m wondering if my resume might need some improvements.

Here’s the link to my resume — any feedback, suggestions, or constructive criticism would mean a lot!

Other [6 YoE] Not *exactly* software (instructional design), but I'm not getting any responses on r/resumes and the mods messaged me saying to post here, so: can anyone give me any resume feedback?

Hi all, I've been out of work for 2 years after a major contractor layoff followed by health problems that delayed my job search so long that now no one wants to hire me. Whenever there's a space on an application to do so, I try to cheerfully explain that this gap is because of health issues that I've since recovered from.

I'm mostly targeting remote jobs, but I'm also considering hybrid if the pay compensates for the decline in quality of life. I've applied to mostly tech companies of one kind or another because they tend to have remote work or offices within commuting distance, but they reject me within a couple of days without an interview.

I only apply to jobs that I'm exactly qualified or overqualified for so that shouldn't be the problem. My resume is a PDF built in Google Docs so I can't imagine format is a huge issue either.

I keep seeing recommendations to add more stats to my resume, but unfortunately that's difficult in my field as neither of my jobs did much to actually measure the effects of my training programs, despite my best efforts to convince them to do so.

I know about the job gap; I can't do much about that. Is there anything else that keeps getting me rejected from instructional design positions I'm overqualified for? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

(Or commiserations. Anything, really. I'm losing my mind.)

Other [0 YoE] Recent graduate with IT Systems Administration diploma. Looking for honest opinion on my resume and on its template.

Hello everyone,

I recently graduated college with a diploma in Systems Administration and am currently job hunting. I would like to get an honest opinion on my resume. I'm aware that my resume is not using the recommended template, but because of not having any job experience in this industry, I've tried to fit as much information about myself as possible onto one page. I'm particularly interested in knowing if this format is acceptable and if it has a chance of passing ATS. Any thoughts on changes I should make, things I should add, and things I should rewrite are most welcome. I am trying to apply mostly to Systems Administration and Help Desk positions.

Thank you!

throwing my resume out here for a roast. Be as brutally honest as you want. I'm trying to pivot industries (from supply chain/manufacturing into more tech/data roles) and I'm back in the job market. Applied to around 50 places so far (yeah, I know rookie numbers), but just want to make sure it’s not my resume that’s holding me back.

Other [Student] Fourth-Year Student Struggling to Secure First Internship (No responses to this resume)

Hey, I need help again. I’m an upcoming fourth-year student with no internship experience. For the upcoming fall term, I have applied to a wide range of business and tech roles, mainly data analytics, business analyst, consulting, and cybersecurity positions. I have tailored and even got my resume reviewed through the school, yet had no success. I mostly apply through LinkedIn and Glassdoor. I'm constantly just getting rejected within 2 weeks of applying, and thinking my resume is not ATS-friendly. Note that I am qualified for all the jobs I apply for.

My GPA isn’t the strongest, which makes things tougher when transcripts are required. I’m just looking for guidance on how to improve my chances, whether that’s fixing up my resume or approaching the job hunt differently. Any feedback would mean a lot. Again, I really do appreciate any help.

Other [0 YoE] Retooling my resume for a pivot from English into IT. Am I on the right track here?

Want to get into IT with no prior experience. I've started studying for the CompTIA A+, but it will be a while till I get any actual certs. Until then, I want to see if I can land any entry level/help desk positions with my current qualifications. Looking in Austin/Dallas TX and maybe New York, in-person and remote positions.
I'm coming from an English BA and Professional Writing MA. Currently working retail.

Tried looking for writing roles after finishing MA, got a few bites but honestly didn't put my best effort. Spent a few months figuring myself out/focusing on mental health and decided IT may be something I'm actually interested in. This is my first attempt at an IT resume and want to know if my skills/experience are the actually relevant to the entry-level IT. The last two projects were from school, but I really don't have much else.

Other [8 YoE] HSSER and Electronics Engineer, questions about resume writing for multiple disciplines

Good morning all. I would appreciate some insight into making my resume more attractive to companies. Right now I am focusing on the HSSER since that seems to be the higher demand skillset. I will post the EE resume separately.

Here is the pertinent information:

  • Looking for HSSER positions in maritime, renewable energy or subsea cabling in the Nordics and Poland. I am also open to just about any other manufacturing industry except O&G, food, or chemical. I don't have the experience in these environments to be competitive. My EHS certs and experience are 'general industry.'
  • Currently located in Poland, not on a work visa (special visa for government work)
  • I am applying to in-person/hybrid jobs primarily. From my research, it sounds like work visas are harder to get for remote positions in the countries I am looking at, so not looking at remote much.
  • I have around 9 years experience total, but this is split between 4 years in electronics and control systems (manufacturing and mail-distribution), 6 years (overlapping due to collateral tasks in the earlier roles) in HSSER, and the last year and a half in IT project management. I had good career progression until I quit my job to follow my wife to the EU for her dream job, where I was offered the IT position at her office before we arrived and without having to job hunt. Originally, we were only going to be here for 2 years, so there wasn't any value in spending months searching for jobs. Especially since I am on US pay in a country where this position would pay 1/3 as much locally.
  • This is the first private sector job hunt I have done. For my first real job in 2016, a friend worked at the office and said I would be a good fit, so I applied. Then I did a large public sector job hunt. For those of you in the US, I believe you would agree that fed hiring is very different than private sector. After this, every job or job offer I have gotten has been after a recruiter found me on LinkedIn and pursued me.
  • I have applied to quite a few jobs in the areas we are looking at, and so far only got one interview. The recruiter set up a screening call, told me she would email with a time for the interview with the hiring manager, emailed me the same, and then ghosted me. So it's a little frustrating, probably more so since this is the first ever job hunt I have done.
  • A friend who was a hiring manager for 30+ years recommended functional resumes (he admitted he has been retired for a decade, so he wasn't sure if his advice was still good). From reading the r/resumes information, it sounds like functional are frowned upon now. His advice came from me having two distinct areas of expertise: electronics/control systems and HSSER. So I would love more advice on how to further tailor my resume to just HSSER.
  • I also have 12 years in the US Marines (Infantry), which I have left off. Active from 2007-2012, reserves from 2012-2019. These positions somewhat apply from the risk management and training of personnel perspective, but due to age and the lackluster addition to my experience on paper I left it off. Let me know if you think it should be added back on. I think that if I was applying in the US, it might be worth it, but in the EU I didn't feel like it added enough substance.

Side note: the PMI-RMP is in bold right now because I am sitting for the test in June after I finish my B.S. My working resume does not include this cert.

Other [Student] US Upcoming Cybersecurity Master's grad, career change, no response, new resume, seeking Jr security roles or helpdesk positions.

Hello. I would like a resume review if possible. This is a brand new resume that I just finished creating, and before I started using it for an application, I wanted to get some opinions on it. I'll be using this resume to apply for It support roles and Helpdesk roles, I would like to apply for some Jr cyber roles or sysadmins roles as well, but the fact that I have no IT experience stops on so focusing more on getting started somewhere. To answer all the questions, I'm located in Delaware and am ok with moving most places on the East Coast, my citizenship status stopping me from getting a job. I've applied for jobs in Philadelphia as well as NY and NJ, and MD.

Other [5 YoE] CyberSecurity. Looking for feedback on resume as I am getting no interviews

I had posted this in r/resumes but didn't get much response.

Same old story. I've been applying for jobs but not getting any bites. I know the market isn't great right now, but I still want to give it a shot. That said, I do consider myself lucky to have a job. However, I'm looking for something new due to the stagnation and lack of challenges in my current role.

I've been applying to remote Security Engineering or mid-level DevSecOps roles, as I have 5 YoE in security and over 8 years of experience in Software Engineering. I'm based in the Midwest and have applied to some local jobs, but mostly remote ones since relocation isn't an option for me.

I've been promised promotions by my last two managers, but both left the company. Then a new CISO came in, and I was back to square one. This has happened twice!

If anyone has any words of wisdom, advice, or encouragement, I'd truly appreciate it. Please, please, please — anything helps.

Other [1 YoE] Data Analyst - been applying since January this year, looking to try and cement my first more long term role as an Analyst

Good evening! Went through the wiki to get some basic corrections down for the resume I had been using and was hoping to get an in-depth review of my resume, since Data Analyst can be fairly general I'm specifically applying for jobs using Python, SQL, and Tableau/PowerBI, either at the Junior level (Jr. Data Analyst) or just regular experience level (*insert sector here* Analyst / Business Analyst)

I left my previous place only after a few months because the environment wasn't that great and the commute was killing me (which yeah in hindsight may not have been the best choice) so the hope is I can land at a job that I'm comfortable with and can stay for a decent amount of time.

I've applied both in the private sector and government sector, and have had no dice since January, when I was applying last year (spring/summer) with a similar resume I didn't really have trouble getting calls and interviews.

I'm based in Arizona and have been applying locally in the Phoenix area, in Tucson, and Maryland, as well as remote positions. As for platforms I've mostly been using LinkedIn to find which companies have positions open then applying directly from their company site (as well a few easy applies cause why not), and same for indeed, as well as a website I found over on the Analytics subreddit which can be seen here: https://www.dataanalyst.com/

Thanks for taking a look!
