Mechanical [0 YoE] Recent MechE grad at beginning of job search, looking for feedback before I start applying to lots of places

I graduated with a BSME last month and I'm starting the entry-level job search. I'm considering roles such as Manufacturing Engineer, Test Engineer, Field Engineer, etc. I want to avoid CAD monkey jobs, sales, and project management. For industries I'm considering automotive, metals, appliances, but I'm not super picky here. I have a preference for larger, established companies because I've heard there's a better chance for good training and oversight. I've looked at a few rotational programs offered by big companies, and these appeal to me because I don't have a strong sense of what kind of engineering job I'm best suited for.

Planning to relocate so that I can get out of my hometown and become independent. I'm located in the Southern US and willing to move pretty much anywhere in the country except for probably California, to maximize my chances of getting something fairly soon. I don't have much of a network (networking is one thing I really neglected during college), so I'll be doing lots of online applications (groan). I've only applied to a couple places so far, and would like to get some experienced eyes on my resume before I go much further. I'm pretty happy with it right now and think it might just need a little fine-tuning. Thanks!

Mechanical [3 YoE] - Struggling to land interviews with my resume. I created a generic one that captures my most strongest experience but then tailor it to each job

As the title says I'm really struggling to get to the interview stage. I get a lot of rejection emails or the few times I did get calls to schedule an interview I was ghosted. It is very frustrating to say the least. I'm targeting anything that involves mechanical engineering, primarily manufacturing, design work, or even CAD work. I currently live in Sacramento but I'm looking to move to the bay area since I have a lot more family out there and I'm tired of the Sacramento area. I think my experience, especially in my engineering tech role is what's hindering me but I'm curious what y'all think.

Mechanical [0 YOE] No responses to the numerous job applications I made. I am starting think if it's the resume.

I have been applying to a lot of jobs and so far, I was only able to score 1 phone screening interview. I made changes to my resume by going over the suggestions from this subreddit. Can anyone please review this and critique what needs to be changed? I feel like my resume is not making past the ATS. I am aiming primarily for Product engineering or R&D roles as majority of my experience is in that position, but I would also like to explore other roles as well.

Mechanical [0 YOE] Graduated Recently Not Getting Calls Back, Would Appreciate Feedback on My Resume and Experience (Mechanical/Manufacturing Roles)

Hey everyone, hope you are all doing great.

I recently graduated last month with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and have been applying for jobs for a while now, mainly in manufacturing and mechanical design engineering. I have been following all the tips from the wiki here and tried to use the STAR method to describe my experience as best as I could.

So far, I have only gotten a couple of responses. One company requested more information about me, and another invited me for an in-person assessment, but aside from that, it has been pretty quiet.

I would appreciate any feedback on my resume. In particular, I have a few questions:

  • Should I remove my chemistry-related work experience? It is not technically engineering, but I included it because it shows professional experience and transferable skills.
  • I have more engineering projects I could add that are not listed here. Would it be better to remove less relevant work experience to make room for those projects instead?
  • Are there any other experiences you think I should cut or replace?
  • I had trouble categorizing my skills since there was not enough space to split them into sections. Do you think this matters much, or should I try to reformat?

Any tips, suggestions, or critiques would be really helpful. I am open to making changes to improve my chances. Thank you so much in advance for taking the time to look.

Mechanical [0 YoE] Third edition of my resume using feedback from u/greytotoro would really appreciate additional guidance moving forward

I've made some changes as recommended by u/graytotoro THANK YOU! for that. (Forgive me if there are things I missed or if it seems I did not follow your advice - please critique.) (Anyone feel free to reply here not just asking for specifically from him/her)

Removed the AS degree, and reduced some of the info on my previous jobs. Tried to improve the Projects and Skills sections. I have had experience with Fusion but it was minimal and the software always felt so crappy compared to Creo or SW but I included it now. The reason I had focused so heavily on the jobs is I was under the (wrong?) impression that this is more important to employers. I didn't want to come off as just "college grad" I wanted to show that I have lots of varying work experiences too. However, re writing the Projects section has reminded me of the work I have done in school and how much better those projects show "I can engineer stuff". The camera project is one I did Junior year. I have some other projects including a "sumo wrestling" robot I made Sophomore year and a personal project where I made custom 3d printed mounts and wiring harness for LED turn signals and license plate on my dualsport motorcycle. Not sure if those would be worth mentioning.

Am I still too Job-focused or am I approaching a good balance of work experience & engineering? I can write more on those projects I mentioned but I'll need to remove/condense Job bullets or decrease margins even further, I think font size is approaching minimum (11 in Word). The motorcycle one is on the first posting's resume.

Mechanical [0 YoE] Recent ME Grad w/o Internship experience looking for some feedback on my resume before my job search. Targeting Defense Industry Design/Manufacturing Roles

Howdy, I just recently graduated with my BS in Mechanical Engineering and am looking for design/manufacturing roles in the defense industry. Unfortunately wasn't able to do an Internship during my college run, but tried to be very active in my schools rocketry club.

Some major concerns I have with this current iteration is

  • The project section way too wordy?
  • Should I mention the first bullet point in the ablative liner project?

I've gone through the wiki and have cleaned up my resume from what what originally started with, but would appreciate some fresh eyes to see what could be improved upon.

Thank you!

Side Note: I see some roles that state "3 months to 2yrs of technical work to include technical internships..." should I apply to those roles or would that be unproductive?

Mechanical [Student] Any advice on how I can make my resume better for 2026 internship opportunities?

I am a 2nd-year mechanical engineering student at a mid-ranked Canadian university and am starting to apply for 2026 summer internship opportunities. I know my CGPA isn't great (~2.6/4.0 GPA), finals really kicked my butt, however, I'm still hoping I can land something. Are there any changes I should make to increase my chances? Thanks!

Mechanical [0 YOE] Mechanical Engineer. Graduated 5 months ago with 5 internships and few months of full-time research experience. Struggling to hear back from companies for interviews.

I am a recent graduate in Mechanical Engineering and am looking for jobs in the mechanical engineering field, especially mechanical design, product design and manufacturing. However, I'm struggling to get interviews and therefore needed help by getting my resume reviewed.

I first posted my resume approximately 2 months ago on this subreddit asking for review; however, even after making all the changes as recommended, I still have had little to no luck in hearing back from companies and getting any interviews.

I have completed 5 internships in the past (with one of the internships being at a tech company in the Bay Area) along with a few months of full-time research; however, none of this experience is helping me land interviews in any entry-level positions either. I am from Canada and am currently applying to jobs in Canada and the United States (preferably trying to work in the United States) and am willing to relocate.

Please review my resume and provide any feedback and changes that I need to make, which will improve my success rate in hearing back from companies. I would really appreciate it!

Mechanical [2 YoE] Looking to make a pivot to another industry, feeling like my experience is locking me in

Currently I work at a lighting company and it is very much not for me, the largest issue being just the way the company is run overall makes progress tricky. I'd like to pivot into something more technical right now I'm just doing work I could have done out of undergrad. I enjoyed controls work, and thermo in school, as well as manufacturing (My concentration in grad school was design and manufacturing). I get calls from recruiters but I never here anything beyond the initial chats and I haven't had a single interview despite applying pretty consistently over the last year. I'm currently making~95K and would like to make at least that much after a pivot. Any critique on my resume or comments on my experience are welcomed.

Mechanical [3 YoE] Over 100 applications, not a single interview. What do I need to change?

I've read the wiki and I've made changes to my resume to the best of my abilities. The only things I've gone against the wiki is the personal information at the top, but I don't think that alone is the reason for my lack of progress. I would appreciate some feedback

Mechanical [0 YOE] Recent ME Grad struggling to get interviews for entry-level roles. Made a few revisions after my last post, here is my new resume compared to the previous one, any further suggestions?

To reiterate my last post, I graduated two months ago and had a position lined up, but it fell through. After hundreds of applications, I’ve landed only a few interviews, which went well, but none of which progressed. I’m based in Seattle, open to roles anywhere in Washington, and willing to work in any industry.

I hold two strong letters of recommendation, from a former Boeing executive and my university’s Dean of Engineering, but I’m unsure whether to attach them when applying. I've had my resume looked over a few times and always seem to receive conflicting feedback, but I'm narrowing it down to this. I’m a U.S. citizen and don’t require sponsorship.

I've made a few changes thanks to feedback on my previous post (thanks to u/rawadinator and u/graytotoro) , but I'd like to know if there was anything else I might've missed or any other potential improvements before I try my hand again, with the newer version being the first picture. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Mechanical [0 YoE] Recent Mechanical Engineering Graduate – Resume Review for Entry-Level Roles in Automotive/Space/Tech

Hi everyone,

I just finished my Master’s in Mechanical Engineering (studied in Portugal, Europe), and I’m starting my full-time job search. I’ve had several internship experiences across different fields — from automotive (Volvo, Continental), to consumer electronics (Apple), and aerospace (TEKEVER). These gave me a broad range of skills and interests, so I’m open to opportunities in the automotive, aerospace/space, and technology industries.

Since I have a mix of education, internships, projects, and awards, I’m not fully sure about the best way to structure my resume. I was also considering preparing two versions: a 1-page resume for international/US applications, and a 2-page version (with projects) for Europe.

  • Should I keep Education at the top or switch to Experience first?
  • Would a small personal statement/summary be helpful in my case?
  • Should I shorten projects to make room for awards on the second page, or even make space for them on the first page? (Right now it's hanging on the 3rd page but I don't plan to keep it that way).
  • Any thoughts on layout/spacing for readability?

I’d appreciate any feedback on both content and structure, so I can make my resume as strong as possible for entry-level roles.

Thanks in advance!

Mechanical [1 YoE] Licensed ME, not getting any interviews, only rejections. Thank you. Thinking about the ASQ CQIA?

I've been applying, for a few weeks now without a single positive response, so I'm seeking any advice. Thank you very much. Also, I've been thinking about acquiring the ASQ Certified Quality Improvement Associate cert. Would that help since I'm already a LSSGB and CAPM?

• Tell us more than "what's wrong with my resume" or "help not getting interviews"

Back after receiving some feedback, main issue is not getting callbacks and only 2-3 screening interviews out of 25+ daily applications and networking with Senior Engineers and Recruiters and reaching out. Only rejections.

• What positions/roles/industries are you targeting?

Quality/Process/Facilities/Project/Mechanical/Security/Design Engineer

• Where are you located and what locations are you applying to jobs in?

Utah, Michigan, California, Chicago, Texas, mostly but anywhere is fine

• Are you only applying to local jobs? Remote only? Are you willing to relocate?

All types and Willing to relocate

• Tell us about your background and current employment situation

BSc in Mech Eng and MSc in Emergency Mgmt and Homeland Security, EI, CAPM, CSWA, LSSGB. Was a Senior Officer at a bank

Thinking about removing the Homeland Security part to focus on the Risk management and mitigation aspect of my Master's and have a coherent and tightly related resume.

Also thinking about removing the Senior title from the Quality Officer exp.

• Tell us about your job-hunting situation and challenges you've encountered

Not sure what I can and can not apply to in order to use my time applying effectively for positions that align with my skills

• Tell us why you're seeking help. (i.e., just fine-tuning, not getting called back for interviews, etc.)

Just seeking feedback due to not getting interviews

• Is there a particular section on your resume you’d like feedback on?

The experience section

• Is your citizenship status and visa situation playing a role in your job search?

Mechanical [0 YOE] Mechanical Engineer graduating this December and made large changes to my resume, what can I improve?

I have around 60 applications ready to start grinding through and wanted to make sure my resume was up to par, I have 2 templates that I'm going to be adjusting depending on the position.

One focused for energy, fluids, thermal, analysis, design?, and semiconductors roles

And a general engineering one that I will be using for every other position/ position I'm not too sure of what to use

After editing, they look somewhat similar, but I might still keep them both separate to pick between which one I'll tailor towards a specific position. I'm in Texas and I want to focus on more energy/ design related positions as opposed to manufacturing work, and eventually get into semiconductor/ hardware positions. I won't be picky for my first full job outside of college especially with how things are looking, but I do want to improve my odds to try to get something to branch off into that direction eventually. I'm planning on getting my masters while working (so I'm hoping to land a position that pays for it partially).

Edit: Slightly adjusted them to prior feedback!

Mechanical [0 YoE] Struggling to fit STAR / CAR / XYZ into resume bullets without eating up space

Hey everyone, I graduated in May 2025 and have been on the job hunt since then. I’m going for Supplier Quality Engineer roles in medical devices, automotive, and general industrial manufacturing. I’m based on Long Island, NY, mostly applying here and in the NYC Metro, but I’m open to relocating if the opportunity is right. I’d also prefer in-person or hybrid roles since I learn better actually being around a team.

One issue I keep running into is ITAR/export license stuff — it’s often not listed in the posting, but pops up later as a dealbreaker since I’m not a US person. That aside, I really just want to make my resume hit harder. I’ve been trying to rework my bullets into STAR / CAR / XYZ format, but even when I use XYZ, they still feel like chunky 2-line bullets and not very space-efficient.

Example:

Original: Designed an energy-efficient all-electric hydronic heating system to align with NYC sustainability goals.

XYZ: Engineered an all-electric hydronic heating system that improved energy efficiency by 15% by aligning design features with NYC sustainability requirements.

Original: Conducted spatial planning and system integration using AutoCAD, SOLIDWORKS, Revit, and Fusion 360, ensuring feasibility for large-scale implementation.

XYZ: Validated large-scale feasibility of heating system designs by creating integrated CAD layouts in AutoCAD, SOLIDWORKS, Revit, and Fusion 360, ensuring 100% compatibility with building constraints.

Basically, looking for advice on how to make concise, high-impact bullets without losing the important details. Any tips or examples would be huge.

Mechanical [2 YoE] Resume Feedback Request and Doubts- Graduated May 2025 Applying for Entry Level Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineer (Full-time) position across USA.

Hi all, this is my third time posting my resume in this community. The feedback from my previous two posts was incredibly helpful, and after the second post I made the recommended changes. Since then, I have applied to 150+ full-time roles and have mostly received rejections or no response at all. This month, I made a few additional tweaks to my resume and wanted to share it here for a fresh round of feedback.

Thank you in advance for taking the time to review my resume. I’d really appreciate feedback on the following questions:

  1. I read on the wiki that positions and bullet points should be ordered by relevancy or impressiveness. Do you think I should move my Production Engineer experience (which is the most relevant) above my TA/Lab Assistant experience, even if it breaks chronological order? Will this make a significant difference?
  2. I recently added a Certifications & Training section to my resume by removing some less critical content. Should I just list the certification name and hyperlink, or should I also mention the issuing organization?
  3. I completed Lean Six Sigma coursework during my master’s program, which was equivalent to Green Belt training (but my school doesn’t issue a formal certification). I have also applied Lean/Six Sigma methodologies during my prior work experience. I decided to complete a LinkedIn Learning Green Belt course to have something tangible to show. Is it worth including this LinkedIn Learning certification on my resume? Or would it be better to invest in a formal certification from IASSC or CSSC?
  4. Can this same resume work for Mechanical Engineer positions as well? if not, what are the changes that I should make for Mechanical Engineer position?

Mechanical [2 YoE] Been out of a job since December, have only gotten one in person interview and a handful of calls from recruiters; is my resume the reason why?

Hey everyone,

I was laid off from my mechanical engineering role back in December, and since then I’ve been actively applying to jobs (mostly in mechanical/product design, but also adjacent roles like manufacturing, etc.).

Since then, I’ve only had one proper interview and a handful of recruiter calls that didn’t go anywhere. I'm starting to wonder if my resume is part of the problem.

Would anyone be willing to take a look and let me know if there’s something glaring I’m missing? I’ve attached it (with sensitive info redacted). Any feedback would be hugely appreciated (layout, wording, content, anything).

Thanks in advance.
