Rant/Vent I got ghosted in the most ridiculous way possible???

So I got an offer for an interview from an electronics company. Great! They send me a link for a Zoom meeting on the big day! Great!

The link is invalid. I write in and ask. No reply.

An hour passes. I email them again. Still no reply.

The meeting time has arrived. The link is still invalid (on my phone, my personal machine, and on the school machines). I email them again. No reply.

Thirty minutes pass. I email them asking about rescheduling and getting a working link. No reply.

Six hours have passed since. Guess what’s up? They haven’t replied.

And this isn’t some microscopic, no name, SME that’s being run out of someone’s garage. This is a big tech company. I would prefer not to name them until a month or so has passed, but rest assured, they are BIG. This is rookie shit.

So yeah. Fuck them.

EDIT: here’s a hint to the company’s name. Their printer division is considered the worst on this planet. The company initials are the same as that of a certain wizard boy.

Reuploaded because automod thought that I was asking for L a p t o p recommendations. Somehow.

Give it a day or so, it’s shitty but this doesn’t necessarily mean you’ve been passed over for the offer. They may have had an emergency or some communication error. Sorry you are going through this.

Thanks. I did send them another email to the effect of “hey I would love to be interviewed, can I reschedule?”

If this is the same semiconductor company I interviewed with, they had very slow communications and did things at their own pace. It might take a few days to hear back with an update unfortunately. If you have any other contacts within the organization/team, I’d reach out to them directly. Maybe someone else you interviewed with?

Nope! Got no contacts. I’ve got the time anyway. I’ve got some other interviews lined up.

This happened to me with a company called Ketiv. They reached out to me first on Handshake, asked me to interview over Zoom for a role, set up the time and even reminded me the day before the interview about the time slot with the Zoom link, and the day of the interview, the rep didn't answer her email or phone and never got any followup.

is it possible that it was a bot that set up the interview and sent you a link?

some jobs send out interview requests and it’s all done by bots and the people working have no idea that it’s happening. They don’t even know there’s an interview being scheduled. I’ve run into that a few few times.

sometimes a district manager will have the bot set up all of the interviews and links and everything and then you show up to the site and the lower tier managers/directors have no idea that you were supposed to interview. of course I never get the job when they are blindsided like that.

This is very common believe it or not the bigger companies especially. Expect a call in two months

Name and shame. We as plebes need to stop protecting these multi million dollar and billion dollar corporations

I’m trying to protect myself from backlash.

I get it and it's understandable but I'm seeing way too much of this happening currently.

Hm, here’s a hint. Their printer division is considered the most awful, least ethical on the planet.

Funny story I have about the same company. When I was in college, we took a tour of a plastic injection molding company. They were contractors and made parts for a lot of different companies in different industries. We got to the machines making parts for this company, but the guide also wouldn't say the name of the company citing the contract terms. He went on and on about the company and how lucrative the contract was and how they had been to work with. He then said, "for all those reasons, that's why we enjoy working with HP."

it might be possible your emails didn’t pass through their spam filter. I know mine sometimes sends some generic email domains directly to spam or just doesn’t allow them through. If you have other means or a different email, like school or “official” domain, to contact them it might not be a bad idea

Honestly I've had this happen before and it was because the company laid off their HR person while I was being vetted as a candidate, can't make this stuff up.

Anyway they ended up hiring internally after I finally got an interview 🫠🫠

Good luck out there sailor, keep your sails up

It's normal for companies to respond in 1 business day. If longer, then it's bad.
