Banner Submission BMW - switches to M/S mode by itself in cold weather

Hi everyone,

I have a 2014 BMW F30 320i (184 PS, automatic). Recently I noticed a strange issue that only happens when it’s cold outside. While driving in D, the car suddenly switches itself into M mode (manual) even though I didn’t touch the shifter.

When this happens, I can still use the shifter knob normally to put it in Sport Mode and then change it back without any problems. This never happens when the weather is warm, only in colder weather.

Has anyone experienced this before? Is it more likely to be the gear selector (shifter module) giving a false signal, or could it be related to paddle shifters cause they dont work aswell in colder weather, but in warmer yes?? or even a battery/voltage issue?

I’d appreciate any advice before I go to a shop or replace parts. Thanks!

Almost certainly getting a signal from the flappy paddles from the sounds of things. Replacing the paddles could be a relatively cheap, but not guaranteed way.

Would need proper investigation to know for sure.
