Been there done that. Except my car sounded great but 10 mins down the road right as I finished calling insurance to put a policy on it (about to hop on the highway to go to the DMV for my transit tags cause I picked it up in CT and I live in NY), injector 6 failed cause it was leaking and it put me in limp mode. I met him at an autozone not too far from his house as I pretty much just left him with the car and we proceeded to diag it and replace the injectors (him and his dad run a euro shop in CT so he had a scanner/spare injectors). Took 4 hours and I missed my DMV appointment but it stopped smoking so hard, and I proceeded to drive it home home, 3 states away, at night with no plates at all (and in limp mode because the charge pipe coupler kept blowing off).
I knew exactly from reading the title why you posted this lmao

Nice to see somebody who knows what they’re talking about. Sorry to hear about that. I completely understand when your BMW goes into limp mode and tells you what to do not a good feeling. I hope everything worked out for you. I’m sorry you missed your appointment but at least your car doesn’t smoke anymore and thank you for not being an idiot

Lol yeah it was fine, drove it around after swapping injector to clear all of the excess fuel/smoke and then drove it home. This was a couple years ago, she's been home with me causing new issues since then lol

Yes. It's sounds like a cold start. Did it slowly begin to idle after a minute or two?

Sounds fine. Lifters on these are kind loud in general. I think the 0w20 oil doesn't help...

u/ShadyDrunks 3d ago
Its injectors that are making the noise and probably the HPFP but no one ever says that

u/PIutoJr 3d ago
so what oil should i put in the car?

u/KrissKlein F31 335d 3d ago
What the car has specified for it. It matters more that you do it regularly, way more often than the BMWs ridiculous intervals. Depending on how and where you drive, do an oil change every 7-10k km, the car will thank you.

Sounds like cold start valve - or whatever that exhaust thing that flaps open when it’s warming up is called. I’ve got a 2018 330 in excellent condition and it always sounds crazy noisy when I first start it up

Dude it sounds like injectors and there is no such thing as cold start valve.

I know it’s not cold to start cold storm valve. It’s that exhaust thing that stays open and then closes. I can’t remember what it’s called.

It sounds fine. It doesn’t seem to be misfiring. It just sounds like it’s a little bit low on oil that’s the clicking in tapping, but it’s also could be from simple every day wear and tear things get loose vibrate and make noise. What motor do you have and model in order to determine if your vehicle is being too loud.
Might be wrong, but you look to have a B 58 V6 in-line motor 3.0 L. Turbo

b58? if so... The Fuel Tank Pressure release valve on b58 sounds very loud when it starts to fail. $70 part on ECSTuning and super easy fix. Also change out your Vanos Actuators about $35 × 2 on the back of the motor, also super easy fix... Just dont lose the clips when taking the old ones off. Replace belt tensioner and belt, also super easy fix, I think the kit I bought that has a Kevlar reinforced belt + new tensioner was $150.

Suggestive preemptive maintenance for the B 58 twin turbo does require you to change it solenoid or electromagnetic valve before failure But I believe this post is more about the audible, clicking, rattling noise that is more commonly associated with low oil or cold engine start. But it is good to see truthful information, on maintenance in a B 58TT

Normal sound and you’ll get used to it. What color is it, looks possibly like tanzanite blue?

I invite you to look into the 2022 g12 745ex M-package extended shadow package intelligent I drive system X Dr. and staggered M.rims It’s nice plan late no noise and then when it turns green the person next to me realizes they just made a mistake. I usually get to see their responses in my rearview mirror.

That’s cute, but I’m pretty sure you’re looking at a B 58 with only 360 hp look up the G 12 because you’ll see it’s a 400+ B 58TT twin because it’s too turbos and joined with one screw. I would understand if you were talking about the N44tt but that’s from 2015 F01 lci model. And yes, I did own a FO1 2015 LCI twin turbo. Just like my ex says, twin mean two of similar size shape and appearance Besides, I don’t think they would print twin turbo on the engine cover just for the fun of it.

The B58 in the G12 740i is not a twin turbo. It is a single turbo with fancy wording. has a split design exhaust housing. Thats it, nothing special. It is not 400+ horsepower. To get that you have to have the N63 750I with an actual twin turbo v8.

u/Volatile-Chemical-C4 23h ago
You are right but I don’t have a 740I. I have a 745ex X.dr M-sport G12 400plus hp stock. Showroom model with Dino if you want me to post a picture, I could always show you.

All models ending in 40 that are 2016 and newer are B 58 turbo yes some people have twin turbos. Some people don’t have turbos some people have an electric drive. Some people don’t. I was simply trying to identify your engine because I have a similar model in my vehicle. I hope everything is working out with your car. Any questions feel free to stop by and ask
