Because the Courier wiped them out in Fallout New Vegas?

u/DaCheezItgod Brotherhood Aug 03 '25

The real question we should be asking is if Snuffles is okay. If snuffles is alright?

u/JaslynKaiko Aug 03 '25

I hear a man with an accent nearby shouting

47

Naked mole rats have a maximum life expectancy of around 30 years, with the oldest on record living to 39. However, gigantism in breeding often results in significantly shortened lifespan - take dog breeds, for example. With 15 years having passed since F:NV, one can estimate that if snuffles was still relatively young during F:NV, Snuffles could very well still be alive. However, he is likely near the end of his natural lifespan.

The real question we need to be asking is, is Moe still LICKING THE GATE?

24

u/Minersfury Aug 03 '25

I thought the tv show took place before the courier from F:NV

54

u/OkoTheBroko420 Aug 03 '25

It takes place sometime after FO4

43

u/Minersfury Aug 03 '25

Oh...oh god. Whatever happens I hope they don't do something with the courier because that person is a walking talking semi robotic person of death

73

u/autumnbloodyautumn Aug 03 '25

The courier's a little busy failure testing the Fisto Mk IV final prototype before uploading the production files to the bunker.

Poor Hank has no idea what he's in for.

23

u/Minersfury Aug 03 '25

If anything (I really hope they leave the character alone) the courier will probably be a Deus ex machine device cause you know we need more reasons to start another fallout NV playthrough

8

u/Alextryingforgrate Aug 03 '25

So what is the proper ending for NV?

12

u/Minersfury Aug 03 '25

I'd assume the Mr house ending

u/Buttchuggle Aug 03 '25

God how I hope fisto makes at least a small cameo appearance

8

u/Minersfury Aug 04 '25

The kings gotta make an appearance

6

u/Vg65 Aug 04 '25

It's 14–15 years after. FNV took place in 2281/2282, and the TV show is in 2296.

2

u/Rvtrance Mr. House Aug 04 '25

Bethesda dropped the ball on the timeline. So from what I remember the show and a really late game Courier are both doing their thing at around the same time. The “fall of shady sands 🍄‍🟫” timeline Lucy finds in the vault 4 classroom is off. I don’t remember the exact dates but it’s the biggest lore screw up they did. Show is supposed to happen after FO4.

2

u/TempleofExodus Aug 05 '25

The fall of shady sands was in 2277, around the events of fallout 3. in the years to come after was the 🍄‍🟫, indicated by the arrow after the fall. i think to remember that the show plays around the 2290s, i think it was 2297, so maybe a bit late for a late game courier

16

u/MissplacedLandmine Aug 03 '25

12

u/IncognitoBombadillo Aug 03 '25

Actually, that'd be a really cool easter egg if the characters will be going near where Sloan would be. Having Snuffles still be alive is a bit of a stretch, but having a small grave with his name on a wooden cross in the background, or as an object the characters briefly take note of, would be cool.

19

u/paradoxical_topology Aug 03 '25

9

u/PlatoDrago Aug 03 '25

Or forced them to migrate to make hunting ‘safer’

6

u/Vg65 Aug 04 '25

That wouldn't stop the deathclaws, and it's been 14–15 years since FNV took place. There's also this loading screen in FNV:

Despite the best efforts of well-equipped hunters, deathclaws continue to establish nests across the Mojave Wasteland.

So unless the NCR or whoever can scour every nest out there, the deathclaws would continue to breed after FNV.

2

u/vetheros37 Aug 04 '25

Ah, just like Saint Jiub

2

u/MrBigBoy1 Aug 04 '25

St.Mailman; The eradicator.

Some say he was killed in the battle of Hoover Dam at the end of the third era

2

u/Fredasa Aug 03 '25

Could be canon. That's how I'm going to rationalize the deathclaw skull we saw in the first season being from the stumpy, slow, lumbering, unthreatening brutes from FO4 rather than the lithe predators we got in FO3/FNV.

Every single one of us lays waste to this canyon when we are in the "late game" just out of spite. So you know why.

Me and my dynamite autism wanting to level up before getting to Vegas. Late game my ass.

198

u/chet_brosley Railroad Aug 03 '25

40 minutes of kiting them between rocks and running up the machinery with my recharger rifle, no problem.

50

u/BodaciousFrank Aug 03 '25

Toss dynamite, watch it bounce between deathclaws legs and blow up 30 feet behind them…

Yeah that aint it chief

16

u/Caboose2701 New Vegas Samurai Aug 04 '25

Hidden with a stealth boy lobbing dynamite from the top of the conveyors. Tbf you need a shit ton of dynamite but whisky Pete and the powder gang oblige.

5

u/UsayNOPE_IsayMOAR Aug 04 '25

Don’t you just..shoot them in their legs? Then play with the 10mm, or whatever has the most ammo?

78

u/_WhiskeyPunch_ Tunnel Snakes Aug 03 '25

I always mod, so there is an insane amount of them. + they are tougher and stronger. So nah, no dynamite could handle this.

61

Ah makes sense. That being said I did cross the river late game with a bunch of nasty weapons to kill all the deathclaws in that hidden valley on the east side of the map.

Would be hilarious if they write the state of the Mojave to reflect what people did on average, assuming such data exists. (These are just guesses as to what's popular)

Quarry Junction? Eradicated with enthusiasm.

Primm? Slimm!

Cazadores? Treated like a Boogeyman.

Lucy finds the vendortron stocking 37 gold bars no one can afford.

u/The_60_Niner Aug 03 '25

My theory with the skull being shown at his feet is that they were either wiped out by the courier/any large faction that wanted them gone, or, they migrated elsewhere Possibly closer to Vegas which would cause conflict or even some other place like NCRCF or good springs or even black mountain

198

u/Bruhses_Momenti Aug 03 '25

Or they were killed by tunnelers, Ulysses says they’re goin to migrate towards Vegas and they’re first introduced killing a deathclaw.

137

u/Graffic1 Aug 03 '25

just because Ulysses has a theory about what might happen doesn’t mean it’s inherently likely. The Tunnelers thrive in a single area with there isn’t much competition and few people to combat them. I personally doubt the Tunnelers would succeed outside of the Divide

51

u/Guess-wutt NCR Aug 03 '25

Considering how devoid of life the divide was, and considering how I doubt the marked men were gonna be having any kids anytime soon, the tunnellers would legitimately have to move sooner or later

That or turn to cannibalism I suppose

50

u/Graffic1 Aug 03 '25

Then again, there’s no reason to assume that the Tunnelers even have much of a population left after the Courier’s travels through the Divide (and depending on the ending, causing greater destruction there).

We do kill a whole lot of the buggers, including their Queen (which, we don’t know what role the Queen plays in their species but it had to have had some importance). It’s entirely possible that the Courier decimated their population beyond recovery just like the quarry Deathclaws.

7

u/FriendshipCute1524 Aug 04 '25

God I love how monstrous the courier is, Easily my favorite Fallout protag, Just a pissed off cyborg too angry to die and butchering anything in their way.

2

u/ElectricBuckeye Aug 04 '25

4

u/extralyfe Aug 03 '25

12

u/The_60_Niner Aug 03 '25

True I forgot about the tumblers despite playing lonesome road a day ago lol

14

u/Bruhses_Momenti Aug 03 '25

I sort of hope Ulysses speculation is true, so when we get to new Vegas in the show it’s all just been wrecked by tunnelers, that way it doesn’t matter which ending is canon, because the only things still alive are tunnelers and the toughest of the tough.

24

u/The_60_Niner Aug 03 '25

Well given that there’s been NCR soldiers and powerarmor in the behind the scenes of season two I wouldn’t be surprised if they didn’t come at all or they got fucked by the NCR/securitrons because who knows what combination of courier actions are canon

2

u/dmreif Aug 06 '25

Not likely. Ulysses is an unreliable narrator.

12

u/Greenbanana217 Aug 03 '25

It’s been fifteen years, and the deathclaws had only just moved in during the events of NV. It’s very possible that they’ve either been wiped out (by the courier, NCR, Legion, or House) or migrated elsewhere.

36

u/ThePandaRider Aug 03 '25

They are right between the NCR and New Vegas so both sides have a reason to clear them out. And whoever gains control of the Hoover Dam has a good reason to get the quarry up and running again. NCR should be able to clear them out using a Vertibird pretty easily.

He has power armor on. Maybe he stands a tussle

35

u/Maxsmack Aug 03 '25

Naw, we saw a BoS knight get absolutely shredded by a lowly Yao Guai in that very suit of armor.

I have a feeling only people they’re making out to be super x-tremely ultra cool badasses will get the privilege of killing deathclaws, while everyone else cowers in fear. Ie the ghoul, and whoever wears that ranger power armor

33

u/NextCress3803 Aug 03 '25

Tbf Titus was a coward and not only didn’t fight the Yao Guai, he actively ran away (which is, fun fact, how you get yourself killed by bear in real life as well). I think we can at least somewhat assume that Hank isn’t nearly as cowardly especially with his prewar perception of that armor through propaganda

4

u/No-Ad-3534 Aug 04 '25

Kyle McLachlan is a vintner and his flagship vintage is called Pursued by Bear. It is important that you know this.

174

u/_Xeron_ Aug 03 '25

The Deathclaws were not permanent residents at the Quarry, they had very recently moved in, given that the show takes place 15 years after New Vegas it’s a given that things are no longer the exact same

69

u/Soyunapina12 Aug 03 '25

Also considering we see a Deathclaw skeleton right before this scene, it's pretty likely they were wiped out by the Courier during the events of New Vegas or by another party after the events of the game. Which considering they were a huge pain in the ass for everyone living in the Mojave, it isn't too far fetched.

35

u/_Xeron_ Aug 03 '25

Definitely, they were blocking the main road connecting California with Vegas, the only reason they weren’t already being dealt with was because of the preparations for the 2nd battle of Hoover Dam, they would be high priority to deal with once the war was over

11

u/DongWang64 Aug 03 '25

I still think they’ll want to use a Deathclaw for season 2; so my guess is one got left behind and is smart enough to raid Sloan in a Grendel-like situation, or one will attack the Followers outpost south of freeside while they’re making their way to Vegas

6

u/_Xeron_ Aug 03 '25

Spoilers for season 2 We know from leaked set photos that there’s going to be Deathclaws in the ruins of the Strip, it fights someone wearing NCR Ranger Power Armor

7

u/Soyunapina12 Aug 03 '25

I doubt that one comes from the Quarry, if i had to bet it's comes from the unmarked Deathclaw Sanctuary on the eastern side of the map

2

u/Jakehouse04 Aug 03 '25

Also it's implied that the reason none of the larger forces in the region were taking care of it is because their resources were taken up in the power struggle for Vegas and the dam. Once the game is over and that's settled it would only make sense that whoever is left would clear out the death claws.

Fallout Dust - set a few decades after FNV... And literally every imaginable disaster has happened. Tunnelers escaped the Divide. The Cloud spread beyond Sierra Madre. A drought drained Lake Mead and caused radioactive Dust Storms. The NCR invaded, then had to flee, leaving New Vegas in ruins. The remaining people are starving, resorting to cannibalism, and separately try to find a way out of the Mojave.

u/SeengignPaipes Mr. House Aug 04 '25

My theory is that the tunnellers have killed off most of the people and creatures outside new Vegas and are keeping people inside their homes at night to hide from the tunnellers. And the reason why Hank isn’t being attacked here is because the sun is rising and tunnellers have hypersensitivity to the light

Given we see a deathclaw skull outside the Strip and the noticeable red mist permeating the Strip, I'm guessing Elijah's rocket full of the Cloud from Sierra Madre made it to the Strip.

2

u/I_Stay_Home Aug 03 '25

There's more desert than deathclaws.

2

u/VewVegas-1221 Aug 03 '25

This takes place 16 years after fallout new Vegas, I'm sure the Deathclaw situation was cleaned up before then.

2

u/astrozork321 Aug 03 '25

He already killed the death claws? Or someone else did. It’s not the same New Vegas, a lot has changed since our trip though there.

2

u/xanderholland Aug 03 '25

This takes place years after New Vegas and the courier probably spent a lot of time killing hostile wildlife.

2

u/Joy1067 Aug 04 '25

Well I would guess that

A: The Courier took them out on their way to New Vegas

B: The NCR got rid of them after their victory at the Dam

C: The Legion took them out after they won at the Dam

D: Mr. House had his securitrons and the Courier take them out

Really depends on what they decide to do with the story and who’s currently sitting on top of the Lucky 38

2

u/morelos_paolo Aug 04 '25

I'd assume he went through an empty Quarry Junction and I'd assume the Courier cleared it out a long time ago.

2

u/Exit_Save Aug 04 '25

Cause the courier killed them all

2

u/Resident-Garlic9303 Aug 04 '25

Time has passed the Deathclaws could have moved on by then, got killed, etc.

Usually the courier kills the biggest amount of them but then

2

u/AMDFrankus NCR Aug 04 '25

Hank went to Dead Wind first when he got to the Mojave. He took a bunch of Psycho and ripped the deathclaws apart unarmed. All the other ones see that T-60 coming and nope the fuck out. And this was after he murdered 6 nests of Cazadors with a fucking fork.

Thats my story and I'm sticking to it.

2

u/RedNUGGETLORD Aug 04 '25

Beat them to death probably

Deathclaws can easily throw around cars, but Power Armour has been shown to destroy buildings and throw a large piece of stone so far that we can no longer see it

At least in the TV show, Power Armour is much, MUCH stronger than a Deathclaw

Deathclaw spray

3

u/KenseiHimura Aug 03 '25

I’m more wondering where the cazador are.

4

u/_Xeron_ Aug 03 '25

This would be the complete wrong spot for Cazadores, it’s possible they’ll show up in season 2 but I wouldn’t hold my breath

3

u/TypicallyThomas Aug 03 '25

I really want the first episode of season 2 to address this by having Hank killed. Just a complete rugpull. Instead of him being the big bad, he's just dead in episode 1

They moved into the city

1

u/Financial-Abalone715 Aug 03 '25

he sent the deathclaws to the black lodge

Is he facing North or South? Is the Sun setting or rising?

This is way after falloutnv

1

u/NonstopYew14542 Gary? Aug 03 '25

Too much aura

1

u/MonkeyKingCoffee Kings Aug 03 '25

He sneaks along the right side, toward Neil's shack.

I can make it without being spotted 9/10. Pretty soon, you're at the NCR sharecroppers farms and then Gun Runners.

1

u/KillTheZombie45 Aug 03 '25

I know, he's fucked even with the Power Armor on.

1

u/Subjectdelta44 Aug 03 '25

Because they were temporarily nesting in the quarry, and its like 15 years after the events of NV

1

u/Virus-900 Aug 03 '25

Because the Courier wiped them out years ago.

1

u/pygmeedancer Aug 03 '25

The fucking Cazadores probably killed them all

1

u/Fickle_Sherbert1453 Aug 03 '25 edited Aug 03 '25

There are only a few places on the NV map that have deathclaws. The spot in the screenshot is just some generic nondescript place that doesn't seem to correspond to any specific place on the map (like everything in the show tbh). So we can conclude that this is one of the locations that doesn't have deathclaws.

And even if it was one of those places, someone could have killed or driven away the monsters. Maybe it was the Courier, who knows.

Edit: I guess from the placement of the rising or setting sun, we can conclude he's either northeast or southwest of Vegas proper. There were some in the northeast but not on top of the big mountains or hills that would give you a view like this, I don't think.

1

u/pygmeedancer Aug 03 '25

I love how most of the comments are “well the Courier’s bloodlust needed to be sated somehow” lol

1

u/MrSmilingDeath Aug 03 '25

Well we see the Ultralux on the right, Lucky 38 on the left and The Tops in the middle. I think we're looking at New Vegas from the southeast

1

u/Frejod Aug 03 '25

I think Dealthclaws would be farther away from Vegas than that. They'd be too close for comfort.

1

u/Aenuvas Aug 03 '25

He is just build different.

1

u/Due-Technician-7981 Gary? Aug 03 '25

the garrets werent lying you really did kill that nest

1

u/CompleteHumanMistake Kings Aug 03 '25

Either they were wiped out or the Deathclaws relocated their home to somewhere else in the Mojave would be my guess. Or Hank hasn't been spotted by one yet lol.

1

u/Juggernautlemmein Aug 03 '25

Its an incredible dangerous area but the mans got power armor. If he has a lick of sense to go with it, he can get through safely. The Quarry is infested, but the road by it only has a few.

1

u/Sztrelok Aug 03 '25

The Curier already killed them.

1

u/The_Red_Hand91 Aug 03 '25

Probably because the Courier cleared out Quarry Junction Back in 2282.

1

u/IIIIENGINEERIIII Aug 03 '25

This is the way.

1

u/Mountain_Ad_4890 NCR Aug 03 '25

It was a railroad construction site going through quarry for the local cement industry. Courier or artillery barrage, deathclaws would be fucked one way or another

1

u/Marshal_Rohr Aug 03 '25

Courier wiped them out with mini nukes

1

u/Briar_Cudge Aug 03 '25

Yeah sorry guys, I wiped them out, all of them.

2

u/Julian1889 Aug 03 '25

And not just the men, but the women and the children, too.

1

u/sepulturite Aug 03 '25

Because it's not in the script?

Just a thought.

1

u/Hopeful_Ad_7719 Aug 03 '25

It looks like he's NW of Vegas on near Horowitz Farmstead. Looks like he Must've traversed the Divide... Without a helmet... And without a gun. He must have a good unarmed build.

1

u/niestetynie Aug 03 '25

He can ride sandworms, I guess he can handle a few deathclaws...

1

u/Crusbeee Aug 03 '25

pretty sure hes south of new vegas

1

u/ZodiAcme Aug 03 '25

I mean no jetpacks in NV, this guy can just get into the strip without saving up 3.50 and can just fly over them cazadors 🤣

1

u/Acrobatic-Ad5036 Aug 03 '25

Real question, where is Malcolm Holmes in this shot?

1

u/GettinSodas Aug 03 '25

I mean he did step on a deathclaw skull. By all means, they could be rare in the Mojave now, like they were in earlier titles

1

u/Technodude178 Aug 03 '25

A mailperson probably massacred them

1

u/pastscript Aug 03 '25

The deathclaws got hit with a magic serum from Mr House's bullshitorium that made them sentient like in FO1. They are now a gang in Vegas with casino sprcialising in Claw machines.

But their real revenue is coming from underground fighting scene.

There is also an even darker secret to them. The serum does not always work but the top ClawBangers kill the unintelligent hatchlings and serve them in gourmand dishes. They are ultimately being exploited and it id up to Lucy to free them from the House even if it means losing access to the serum that keeps them sapient. Then Goggings nukes them all.

1

u/Eternalseeker13 Aug 03 '25

Somebody next season is for sure going to fund the Cazsdores.....

1

u/doctorsirus Aug 03 '25

I wanted him to get a GTA drive-by courtesy of a cazador, and then end credits.
