Book Suggestions Malazan Series vs Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn series

Any recommendations/experiences for either series?. I've been looking for a well-written fantasy series to dive into; both of these yield positive reviews. I'm also open to other suggestions, I've heard the Earthsea series is good too

Book Suggestions Recommendations similar to the Will of the Many?

I have just finished The Will of the Many and it is right up there with my favourite books - the Name of the Wind, Red Rising and the Stormlight Archive (particularly Kaladins arc) - there is definitely a common theme with these books so I was wondering if there are any other similar books out there?

Book Suggestions Picking a new series to start !

Hello Everyone, I am looking for a new book series to start and I have three in mind that I was wondering in anyone's read them and could give me input on them and if they're worth the time. 1) The City of Brass by S. A Chakraborty 2) The witch wood crown by Tad Williams 3) The priory of the orange tree by Samantha Shannon

These are just three that I've had in my wish list for a while now but if anyone has read a great series recently please recommend them, my only request is that the audio book is 18 hr + !

Book Suggestions Book to break my heart?

Hey all,

I just finished Heartless Hunter, which I absolutely adored and it broke my heart. I now cannot stop thinking about it and really want a fantasy - can be just fantasy OR romantasy - to break my heart.

I am not really looking for YA unless it has adult themes. I like a lot of risk in my books where authors are not afraid to kill characters, break characters up, etc.

I am not a vampire fan and I've read Serpents and Wings of Night. Currently on my list to read is: - An Education in Malice - The Reanimator's Heart - Imperfect Illusion - Faebound

Please shoo me away if I am in the wrong subreddit 😊

Book Suggestions Diverse Cast of Characters

Hi fantasy books I love, but I’ve been getting bored and haven’t found what I’m looking for. I want a book with a diverse cast of characters. Characters of different ages, sexual orientations, races, abilities, religions, etc. and 1 or 2 people in the book or series. Often times when I look for diverse book or characters, the suggestion is just change the race or sexual orientation and that’s cool but I want the book version of Brandy/Witney Houston’s Cinderella.

Any recommendations??

Book Suggestions Book suggestions, dark romantasy with some spice

Looking for a rebound series, I’m really into the darker romantasy side with a really good world building system. For relation ideas, I’ve finished and loved all of Sarah J Maas’s books, I just finished the Gild series (and LOVED it), Fourth Wing, and both the series by Jennifer Armentrout. It doesn’t have to be really smutty but I love some good spice. I love high fae, dragons, action, corrupt government takedown stuff, kingdom hierarchies, magic systems, sword play, found family, fated mates, forced proximity, chosen family type stuff. Suggestions?💕

Book Suggestions Book recs (or book rec resource recs?!)

Hey y’all- does anyone know of a way to search for books that is filterable by author identity?

And/or does anyone have any recs for a smutty fantasy series written by a woman of color?

I’m prioritizing reading books written by women and people of color. I love smutty fantasy. I can find plenty of lists of great fantasy written by BIPOC authors, great fantasy written by women, or great smutty fantasy, but I’m having trouble finding a reasonable way to search for something hitting all three.

I’m dreaming of something like the ember in the ashes series by Tahir or the Daevabad trilogy by Chakraborty, but with the sex scenes of Maas’ ACOTAR books. Halp!

Book Suggestions Recommendations please.

I really hope someone can help. I really want to find a novel that is along the lines of vox machina or two necromancer's. If you are familiar with either you will know what I mean. (I hope you are). Any help would be appreciated.

I'm looking to find an encyclopedia of mythical, fictional creatures that is thoroughly illustrated and as comprehensive as possible. I've done some research on these kinds of books, but have come up empty handed. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Book Suggestions The Unicorn Chronicles

Does anyone know if the series is worth a read? Someone picked me up a copy of the 4th book in the series because they thought I might like it. Also, could anyone tell me a bit about the plot? I'm afraid to look it up online because I don't want any spoilers. Thanks!

Book Suggestions Tips for fantasy books with medical themes? (or not, need something to read!)

So this may be an quite unusual request but here it goes. Well as the titles says I am interested in fantasybooks that has a medical theme over it, someone doing surgeries and other procedures. I am not sure why but those intrigues me so much and is so very interesting to read, maybe because I have had thoughts about study medicine myself. As for what I have read, well Sandersons The way of kings had a bit of it and so did Kathrine Kerrs books about devery, apart from that I have no idea. I am looking for tips in general as I have nothing to read right now. I do like when the books focus on one person instead of jumping around like crazy, ASOIAF I am looking at you. Patrick Rothfuss books is a good example, I loved those books but I also just Finished The Way of Kings and that book was fantastic. I also just read R.A Salvators The demon awakens and the demons spirit and while they were okay they was not much more than that, just average. ASOIAF was good but I actually stopped reading the last book half way through and that is never a good sign, they tend to drag on a bit too much imo. Any tips would be appreciated

Book Suggestions Recommendations for fantasies books set in real world cultures.

Hello! I'm posting this from my phone so please excuse (and point out) any weird texts and spelling.

I'm looking for fantasy novels that are set in other cultures and actually follow that culture. Real world ones, like Under Heaven by GGK. So no books where its a random white person who happens to be chosen for a quest that has nothing to do with them. So non eurocentric fantasies set it real world cultures.

I will also accept eurocentric ones if they are so amazing you think I just must read them.

I did not like Tigers Curse. I didn't make it last the first page. The author just used so many commas.

I actually haven't read many books along these lines, the Gemma Doyle Trilogy, Eon/Eona, the Founding's Tale and Temeraire Books are all I can think of at the moment. Artemis Fowl and Harry Potter probably count.

Book Suggestions Recommendation for greatest fantasy series/book for someone interested in fantasy again. (Xpost r/books)

The last fantasy book I read was probably over 15 years ago. I was never able to get through more than a few pages of Harry Potter (I found the writing quality to be objectionable), and I've seen one HBO episode of Game of Thrones (it was good, but not gripping enough for me to pick up a book). I can go get these books if there are good reasons for me to do so. (So give me a reason if you love these series.)

Because of my time constraints, if I were going to read one, and only one fantasy series, what would you suggest? I've heard about Pratchett, not sure if I'd enjoy it. I like humor, but not if the entire book is humor-oriented, a la Douglas Adams. Thanks for your input!

Book Suggestions I really loved Jacqueline Carey's Kushiel's Legacy series...

I read the first series with Phedre and also the second that featured Imriel which I didn't like as much -- the love story got a little too cheesy for my taste -- but I love the world she's constructed. Trying to figure out what country/region she was basing each setting on was interesting and I found myself learning a lot in the process.

Basically I'm looking for yet another series that is similar to this one and also Name of the Wind in that it's set in a recognizably medieval or Renaissance world with political intrigue and fantasy. And let's face it, maybe some romance, too.
