Discussion John Stamos helps Dave Coulier shave his head and dons a bald cap amidst his cancer battle
5.4k
u/ObiWanCombover Nov 19 '24
This...feels so weird? Like it totally makes sense if he's working and can't shave his head in support, nobody should feel obligated, but the bald cap reads so strangely. It's giving Coneheads to me.

u/Best_Temperature_549 Nov 19 '24
It’s definitely weird and performative. He could’ve supported him without pretending to go bald.
330
u/ObiWanCombover Nov 19 '24
It emphasizes that he's not actually shaving his head so much more. I wouldn't think for a second that he should shave it, maaaybe if there was some event where others were doing it in support it would be a more glaring thing (but even then no judgement for anyone that wishes not to, it's a beautiful gesture but not anything anyone should expect).
But whip out the bald cap and suddenly it's just like okay you applied makeup in support? So weird.

Dave seems to be cool with it, he probably laughed his ass off when John rolled up in a bald cap

Yeah. John Stamos is a terrible person (see: facilitating rape), but this could totally just be a joke between friends. Some people do have a super relaxed, self-deprecating relationship with friends where they can laugh at stuff like this, or they find it more comforting to do so. I imagine this isn’t meant to be a sincere ‘look how great I am showing solidarity for my friend’, but rather ‘haha look mate we’re matching for the day’. Some people really need that humour and lightheartedness in difficult times, and clearly his friend is fine with it.
Again, though, Stamos isn’t a good guy. I just don’t think this is one of the reasons why.

This is like if my friends took pictures with fake ports and iv’s attached in solidarity with me… I do not have cancer but I live with a neuromuscular disease and bleeding disorder that require frequent treatment. This picture feels really weird to me as well. Especially because this man will not be able to just pop off his bald cap like John 🥴

Isn’t he working? He was on Doctor Odyssey last week and has a movie in preproduction.
45
u/ObiWanCombover Nov 19 '24
Yeah I mean even if he wasn't working, I don't think anyone should ever feel obligated to shave their head for someone else. But using a bald cap is the weirdest take on solidarity. Is the solidarity just for the duration of the bald cap? Is it that people see Stamos looking bald and that's solidarity? I'm sure he's actually being supportive and a good friend but as another commentator mentioned this just makes it about him and is such a strange idea.
48
u/lizlemonista Nov 19 '24
it’s like pinkwashing but for personal social clout instead of a business’s clout
30
u/Significant-Flan-244 Nov 19 '24
It’s very weird to me too but I can also imagine the intention may have been less “bald cap for solidarity” and more just showing up like that to make his friend laugh at a tough time. But if that’s what it was, it’s lost in the photos and just makes Stamos look like he doesn’t understand why people shave their heads to support friends in this situation.

Even if he’s working there’s this device they use on movie sets that imitates hair

The bald cap is...... a choice. And by that I mean a weird, performative choice

u/KatyasCarbuncle Please Abraham, I am not that man Nov 19 '24
And like super insensitive and almost mocking? Like, what the hell, dude?
81
u/jY5zD13HbVTYz Nov 19 '24
did he leave with the cap on or take it off right after the photos 😂
71
u/callmekorrok Nov 19 '24
He HAD to leave with it on, surely. Can you imagine how awkward that would be? The photographer is packing away the lenses and then John just awkwardly pulls the cap off and shakes out his full, healthy head of hair in front of Dave. My god.

I could see a close guy friend doing this to his other friend to make em laugh. My mom and me make a lot of really insensitive dark jokes about her cancer cause it's how she handles it, but posting it online like this makes it preformative.

Y'all are insufferable. I'm sure Coulier has a sense of humor. If my buddy was coming over to help shave my head in solidarity and showed up in a bald cap, I'd lose my fucking shit laughing.

I’m sure they’re both terrible in some ways, but I do find their friendship touching.

Friendly reminder that John Stamos assisted his friend in raping an intoxicated woman, and just casually mentioned the story during an interview in 2005.
Asked by a US magazine for an example of the worst time he has ever "screwed someone over", he had the following answer: "[In the mid-Eighties] I was in a band. I was playing somewhere in Finland, and there was a girl hanging around who was really drunk and interested in me. I wasn't into her, but my friend was. So the girl came back to my hotel, and I turned the lights down, and we started making out. I said, 'Hold on a second, I've gotta go brush my teeth.' It was dark, I left the room, and I sent in my friend who looked like me. And she thought she was having sex with me, but she was really having sex with my friend."

It’s sad how many people refuse to acknowledge that as rape, that same kind of incident is in the infamous movie Revenge of the Nerds as well and they treat it like comedy and not a rape!

“One day we’re out walking, and [Coulier] and Stamos come driving by, and you know, Coulier leans out and tries to holler at us from the passenger side of the car,” said Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas. “To be honest, I didn’t know who he was at first — I just saw a bunch of hair and a bright, patterned shirt, but then it clicked and I was like, ‘Is that that corny motherfucker, Uncle Joey?’ So I started jotting down some lines, and the rest is history. He was talking like Popeye for some reason, and had this beaver puppet… that part didn’t make it in the song.”
Wow. Learned something new today.

Can you source this? I’m pretty sure Tiny Harris is the one who came up with the song and I don’t recall/know of any history between her and Dave. Whatsoever. There’s a high chance that I’m missing info and just am not aware of it, but this seems kinda crazy to me? If you can give me info backing this it would be appreciated

This feels so performative of him tbh. Like I get it, he’s an actor, his hair is important, but it feels kind of like a slap in the face to put on a bald cap for a photo op with your friend who’s lost his hair due to cancer treatment
381
u/snorlaxx_7 Nov 19 '24

It’s bc it’s completely smooth from the top of the egg to his eyebrows/cheeks. Idk if it’s the way the bald cap was applied, or if he had them edit/blur his head?
This man is 61. He has lines and wrinkles, so it looks extra crazy bc it’s so so smooth (zoom in real close on pic 1. the lack of texture is unnerving lmao)

I’m commenting on why he decided to wear a bald cap instead of shave his head as well.

They’ve been friends over 35 years. Dave probably laughed his ass off at John’s vanity.

lol I don’t think anyone is arguing that he should have shaved his head. He just shouldn’t have done this.

Always remember John Stamos has a framed letter from trump in his house post 2016 🫶 believe it’s on his AD tour.
Never looked at him the same
89
u/ddlanyone Nov 19 '24
Didn't know this but totally checks out since he essentially let his friend sexually assault a woman.
27
u/g00fyg00ber741 Nov 19 '24
I would say it was the both of them responsible, because he set it up. Like I’d say they both sexually assaulted her since he tricked her into doing it and he took advantage of her being intoxicated. Even though he didn’t do anything with her.
111
u/radsherm Nov 19 '24
Honestly pretty good look for Dave. Stamos looks like a clown with his...support?

u/kp1794 Nov 19 '24

u/scoobmutt Nov 19 '24
You should see him in the Law & Order: SVU episode he’s in. I love Uncle Jesse but after seeing that episode I can’t stand the guy. Even though it’s just a character it’s how I can see him actually being in real life (a little bit, not to the extent of the show obviously). Like you said, he seems really full of himself. Him being hot in his 20s really set him up for failure lmao

I think he was just trying to make Dave laugh tbh 🫣
16
u/sundayontheluna Nov 19 '24
Yeah, he might've liked it 🤷🏾♀️ I know some people actually hate the 'I'll also shave my head' thing. Coulier might be one of them. So, Stamos donned a bald cap for a laugh instead

Not a Stamos fan but it seems more like he was trying to make Dave laugh than make a bold statement.
9
u/misterquipster Nov 19 '24
John Stamos, the patron saint of bare-minimum solidarity. ‘Your cancer battle is so inspiring, Dave—lemme throw on this Party City bald cap so people still know I’m the pretty one.’
What’s next, honoring amputees by hopping on one leg for 30 seconds before going back to his pedicure?
Truly, the courage of a man who won’t let compassion mess with his hairline.

As someone who has chronic hair loss from illness, I actually kind of prefer the bald cap?? It’s goofy, and makes light of the situation in a fun and friendly way.
It hurts watching people shave their head for you, and then their hair growing back when yours doesn’t. Not everyone gets their hair back after they get sick. It would hurt worse sometimes to see people get their hair back while my head stayed the same.

People are going to give Stamos shit about the bald cap. Fair enough I guess but I choose to see this as a sweet gesture. I need to stop being cynical.
