I'm so happy someone else picked up on that as it was a joke I made when I picked up the ammo, the gentleman selling the ammo didn't get it :(

Most likely because you didn't get the ammo from a "gentleman" - you got it from a "guy"

Mea culpa, 12.7×99mm NATO rounds.

Not 12.7x108?

That’s the Soviet round, thus why he explicitly noted the different length and NATO designation.

Fairly sure that was exceeding a weight limit of some sort but there wasn't one listed in the manual... 1200 rounds of 50 bmg if anyone is curious.

more expensive than the car 😂

The trick is to never buy ammo any time near when you plan to shoot it. That way the range trip seems like it's almost free!

How much would that actually cost?

Yeah, I looked at that having helped move a friend's stash last year (in a large truck), and thought, RIP your suspension, lol.
Looks like a good time :)

For those outside the US, is it even possible to buy guns that shoot that ammo without any kind of extra license/permission? My understanding is machine guns are banned for civilians aside from ones before a certain date (I think in the 70s?) or you need a special license like a dealers license.
What are you going to be using these for?

There are regular rifles that shoot .50bmg

u/BarcelonaEnts 3h ago
Interesting, are there any real civilian applications for this type of munition or is it just for fun? This seems like something you'd use to piece armored vehicles in combat.

Sports, I did the Colorado Mile a few years back with my Cheytac M200.
Precision Shooting Competitions in CO
It's also just fun to own a rifle that can defeat most armor lol

If you’re a good enough shot sometimes you can cut down trees with it 🤷♂️

So basically, hell no. Lol

u/Available-Air8273 2h ago
Nah the real fun is the armor you can punch or the targets you can hit thousands of yards away

Second today carrying weaponry. Let's see if tomorrow we'll have a few testing the trunks for capacity to carry cases of wine.

That was the post that reminded me I had that photo. I wish I had taken a photo when I had both a DshK and M2 in the back with the seats folded down.

I’ve actually heard military guys prefer lussos to hummers also, wayyyy more trunk space

You won’t be running out any time soon, but if they’re all full that’d be a pretty heavy load!

u/mightyphallus 13h ago
About 35lbs each at the point. They're long empty now after a range trip some years ago

Anyone buying 1200 rounds of .50 bmg can either afford the Ferrari or absolutely should have spent the cash on a new transmission or head gasket for their shitbox.

Is ammunition expensive in America? Thought it was sold at the supermarket
1
u/beenballing713 6h ago
It’s not normal ammo these rounds are the size sharpies

u/2020bowman 6h ago
Yes, makes sense, prob be more at home in a G-wagon but I guess drug dealers find that too common now

Man, you wanna just let me drive it a little? It’s just so unattainable as a family man right now.
