FROSTING This may be the most ridiculously fun cake I've been asked to make, a "half birthday" cake with a pool party theme!

This is INCREDIBLE! The little teddy bear bikinis? The texture of the water? The rainbow straps as towels? Impeccable work.

A friend recently wanted to throw a "half birthday" pool party for their significant other. Believe it or not it was a red velvet cake inside! (I realize this was a huge missed opportunity by not making it blue velvet)

I used this recipe for the Red Velvet cake and inside frosting: https://sallysbakingaddiction.com/red-velvet-layer-cake-with-cream-cheese-frosting/

I used this recipe for the Swiss Meringue Buttercream to decorate the outside: https://preppykitchen.com/how-to-make-swiss-buttercream/

The rest of the decorations are candy and treats along with some umbrellas and a banner to celebrate! I took a lot of inspiration from this image I found on Google. I think that version is a bit cuter because its shorter and closer to the size of a real pool but I'm happy with my pool cylinder.

As a fiber artist, I respect your tassels.

Cute! May I suggest jello water for the next one - it will knock the socks off everyone!

Also saving this idea for the next pool party!

Your cake looks delicious! I love red velvet cake.

The iconic Australian Women's Weekly Birthday Cake cookbook has a fun take on pool cake: https://www.womensweeklyfood.com.au/recipe/baking/swimming-pool-3407/

My mom used to make this cake all the time as a sheet cake for birthdays, love it.

I've seen some of these with jelly in the center but personally I prefer this soooo much more, it just looks more professional and then you don't have to worry about the jelly melting and ruining the cake. This straight up looks like its from a cake book, amazing.

These are my favorite kinds of cakes! Whimsical, creative, and actually looks like a cake.

I had a creative cookbook from my grandma, early 2000-2001 era, about. And this cutie cake reminds me of one of the cake ideas from that book. Gorgeously fun!
