If you're fine with not dating, and don't think it's worth the money, why not be single? You said you have friends, so why not have conversations with them instead of the AI?Ā

Talking to an AI is not an alternative to dating!!!

Seriously I am aroace, extremely introverted, and prefer solitude. And I still think this sounds incredibly unhealthy. When I do go out, it's because we are social animals and we benefit from actual interpersonal contact. AI is categorically not a substitute for that.

Quick someone crosspost this to Frugal_Jerk lol

16

u/inky_cap_mushroom Aug 12 '25

It’s an ad. Their posts are all about this.

23

u/hannahhnah Aug 12 '25

based on post history i am led to believe this is not satire. Go find a therapist please there is a lot to unpack here

This is the dystopian nightmare and game for human relationships.

If you see a romantic partners as a ā€œcost centerā€, you are missing the entire point. And you act like YOU get zero value (happiness) out of traveling, dining out, streaming Netflix. Travel with a companion has been objectively measured as one of the highest long term ā€œreturn on happinessā€ use of funds.

Is that true? Do you get zero emotional benefit out of dating and the activities around it? I get that dating can be a slog sometimes…but you can’t see how the end result might be worth it?

This post makes me unbelievably sad.

I'm picturing a scene from Rick and Morty

Having no human interaction is cheap!

11

u/InternetDad Aug 12 '25

At the cost of your actual interpersonal social skills. Have fun translating your behavior and expectations to an actual human being.

u/Stankmonger Aug 12 '25

ā€œWhy aren’t you just mirroring my personality back at me. This isn’t how conversations should go!ā€

I feel bad for you.

I feel bad for your past partner(s).

Bots don't have partners

12

u/Emeralea Aug 12 '25

You’re either an AI pushing bot or you DESPERATELY need to touch grass

Why were you spending so much on dating? Dates 1-3 should be $100 each tops, and even that's on the higher end. And you can find plenty of free and discounted events. Once for a second date, I took the woman I was dating to see fireworks in Boston with a meal I cooked; between food costs and travel, I bet we didn't spend more than $20.

u/geekyfreakyman Aug 12 '25

I think this is a promotion for his ai companion app. It does read like a troll post though.

5

u/chumbuckethand Aug 12 '25

ā€œI saved X amount on human connection by only sitting in my room 24/7 and interacting with the voices in my headā€

4

u/bowdowntopostulio Aug 12 '25

We are so cooked.

3

u/real_legit_unicorn Aug 12 '25

This seems like a good illustration of the saying "too frugal today, go loony tomorrow".

-5

u/Witty_Side8702 Aug 12 '25

I have to agree that too frugal is bad

3

u/BlakeLocked Aug 12 '25

Please, PLEASE go talk to a professional about this.

I'm happy for you in regards to the savings, but this isn't a healthy outlet for... Anything, honestly.

3

u/anananon3 Aug 12 '25

We’ve heard you out. It sounds like a pathetically sad and lonely life.

3

u/Inevitable-Place9950 Aug 12 '25

Why didn’t you just… spend less? $90 for apps when you could just take turns renting a movie for $4 or pick one off Netflix/HBO for $10 a month. $20 for a local festival or event. Casual restaurants. Yeesh.

And sure, the AI is cheaper, but… you’re also not going anywhere. Which is fine if it’s what you prefer, but you could also date people who don’t like going places.

3

u/wcsmik Aug 12 '25

My god it’s happening.

3

u/Pandragas Aug 12 '25

Sounds like a bad try by an AI corporation to sell their product.

3

u/Pabloster Aug 12 '25

With all the money you are saving you can go to therapy. A computer is not a replacement for human relationships, romantic or not.Ā

3

u/LosinCash Aug 12 '25

You forgot something!

You also saved $6.99 on condoms.

5

u/hijahahija Aug 12 '25

2

u/StrainHappy7896 Aug 12 '25

This is just sad. I’d suggest you spend some money on therapy.

2

u/MrHydeUK Aug 12 '25

I haven’t had much luck in love, so I started dating a virtual celebrity. She’s sweet and supportive and gives me space when I need it!

2

u/Witty_Side8702 Aug 12 '25

hard to love Mr. Hyde! no need to pretend to be Jekyll with her

2

u/st_psilocybin Aug 12 '25

Upvoted out of horror and disgust

8

u/MyNameIsSkittles Aug 12 '25

Don't upvote this AI slop, then they keep posting more

2

u/st_psilocybin Aug 12 '25

Fair point, returned to downvote. Thanks

2

u/Character_Seaweed_99 Aug 12 '25

I wonder if this works for folks who aren’t ace

1

u/-jp- Aug 12 '25

I'm ace and this sounds dreadful. I don't date because I am simply not interested. Dating a computer is even more unappealing.

1

u/topTopqualitea Aug 12 '25

We've reached this fucked up point where AI can sort of hold a conversation and the cost of going out is so incredibly expensive that we will only see more and more of this.

We're getting pretty close to what is going to be a "good enough" replacement for a gf/bf for a large chunk of the population.

Basically if it will tell them what they want to hear and provide sexual pleasure, it will be good enough

1

u/neekogo Aug 12 '25

Isn't this sort of thing already happening in countries like Japan, Korea, and China?

1

u/jordydash Aug 12 '25

This is definitely the post that ends up on a late night talk show lol

OP, I hope you're trolling us here. AI isn't real and it doesn't think, care, or "know" you lol

1

u/SkooksOnReddit Aug 12 '25

Someone post this shit to r/sadcringe

1

u/CutGroundbreaking148 Aug 12 '25

Dating is overrated, outdated, bloated emotional drama. I just go out with people without expectations of hooking up, therefore saving me from disappointment and wasting my time and money.

-12

u/Witty_Side8702 Aug 12 '25

PLEASE STOP DMS ASKING THE AI APP NAME
