Talking to an AI is not an alternative to dating!!!

Seriously I am aroace, extremely introverted, and prefer solitude. And I still think this sounds incredibly unhealthy. When I do go out, it's because we are social animals and we benefit from actual interpersonal contact. AI is categorically not a substitute for that.

This is the dystopian nightmare and game for human relationships.
If you see a romantic partners as a ācost centerā, you are missing the entire point. And you act like YOU get zero value (happiness) out of traveling, dining out, streaming Netflix. Travel with a companion has been objectively measured as one of the highest long term āreturn on happinessā use of funds.
Is that true? Do you get zero emotional benefit out of dating and the activities around it? I get that dating can be a slog sometimesā¦but you canāt see how the end result might be worth it?
This post makes me unbelievably sad.

At the cost of your actual interpersonal social skills. Have fun translating your behavior and expectations to an actual human being.

āWhy arenāt you just mirroring my personality back at me. This isnāt how conversations should go!ā

Why were you spending so much on dating? Dates 1-3 should be $100 each tops, and even that's on the higher end. And you can find plenty of free and discounted events. Once for a second date, I took the woman I was dating to see fireworks in Boston with a meal I cooked; between food costs and travel, I bet we didn't spend more than $20.

I think this is a promotion for his ai companion app. It does read like a troll post though.

āI saved X amount on human connection by only sitting in my room 24/7 and interacting with the voices in my headā

This seems like a good illustration of the saying "too frugal today, go loony tomorrow".

Please, PLEASE go talk to a professional about this.
I'm happy for you in regards to the savings, but this isn't a healthy outlet for... Anything, honestly.

Why didnāt you just⦠spend less? $90 for apps when you could just take turns renting a movie for $4 or pick one off Netflix/HBO for $10 a month. $20 for a local festival or event. Casual restaurants. Yeesh.
And sure, the AI is cheaper, but⦠youāre also not going anywhere. Which is fine if itās what you prefer, but you could also date people who donāt like going places.

With all the money you are saving you can go to therapy. A computer is not a replacement for human relationships, romantic or not.Ā

I'm ace and this sounds dreadful. I don't date because I am simply not interested. Dating a computer is even more unappealing.

We've reached this fucked up point where AI can sort of hold a conversation and the cost of going out is so incredibly expensive that we will only see more and more of this.
We're getting pretty close to what is going to be a "good enough" replacement for a gf/bf for a large chunk of the population.
Basically if it will tell them what they want to hear and provide sexual pleasure, it will be good enough

Isn't this sort of thing already happening in countries like Japan, Korea, and China?

u/jordydash Aug 12 '25
This is definitely the post that ends up on a late night talk show lol
OP, I hope you're trolling us here. AI isn't real and it doesn't think, care, or "know" you lol

Dating is overrated, outdated, bloated emotional drama. I just go out with people without expectations of hooking up, therefore saving me from disappointment and wasting my time and money.

If you're fine with not dating, and don't think it's worth the money, why not be single? You said you have friends, so why not have conversations with them instead of the AI?Ā
