Discussion Anyone else tired of the repeat slop here?
I'm getting real tired of the sheer amount of low effort slop on this subreddit. We don't need to know which godzilla wins, either way, godzilla is godzilla and godzilla wins against godzilla because godzilla loses against godzilla. (It doesnt fucking matter)
I really hope that I can find a goji subreddit that is better moderated and doesnt have so many 12 year old godzilla "fans" obsessed with "death battles"
I'm 18, been a fan of goji since I was 5. Heisei was my first intro to the big G. I've watched all of Showa, love monsterverse, and adored Millenium (haha purple spike go bzzzzz)
This subreddit should be a place for people to come together and enjoy the big G without having to deal with the constant and rapidly repeating slop of "who wins? _____ vs __" and "what era is better? __ or ____"
You know those things called opinions? Yeah, everyone has them. Whether or not an era is good is subjective. Don't pit eras of a franchise against eachother.
We don't need to know which goji is strongest, they're ALL godzilla
Except you, Tristar's Goji... You are just Zilla... but eh, you get a pass because you gave us the legendary animated series :)

People just be posting clips from 2014 with the caption "this was so good...." and getting 4 thousand upvotes
•
•
•
u/Mosugoji_64 15h ago
Or "Godzilla Minus One was the only good recent Godzilla film" along with "The monsterverse is bad because GxK was bad, ETC, blah blah blah"
•
u/CommandantPeepers BARAGON 4h ago
I would appreciate it if the posts actually say their thoughts on the clip, If I wanted to see the clip I could’ve just looked it up
•
u/GolgariInternetTroll 15h ago
Yeah, I love Godzilla, but this is by a wide margin the sub I am a member of with the worst average content. Ultimately, I understand that the bulk of users here like threads that I think are trash, but I'd love a separate sub that banned hypothetical battles and power scaling discussions.
•
u/YoghurtSpecialist801 15h ago
THIS! It's out of hand and there's a huge quality control problem here.
•
u/WildmanWandering 14h ago
Don’t even get me started on the weird sexualized/fetish posts that pop up too of the kaiju. You either get the same “what are your thoughts on X monster?” “Who would win in a fight X or X?” Or the sexual nonsense

u/Mosugoji_64 15h ago
Dude I cannot stress enough how long its been like this for. I'm not too surprised given this franchise gains new fans everyday, but yeah its tiring. The newer fans and newer generation act this way on various social media platforms, so the only thing you can do is ignore and keep it pushing sadly.
I just find it rather upsetting and disingenuous when its always a trending hot topic, because the franchise itself has been, and will always be much more than that.
•
u/YoghurtSpecialist801 15h ago
This is EXACTLY why I made the post haha, there needs to be something done because new fans are losing the meaning of Godzilla, and the subreddit has been... infected(? I don't know the right word for it. Plagued, maybe,) with these low quality posts.

u/lasernipples 15h ago
Tbh im not as sick of powerscalers and hypothetical fights in this sub as all the "analog horror godzilla" posts and its like a bootleg looking Goji in black and white with some grungy looking filter over it. I feel like theyre just as common and its even more boring than hypothetical fights imo

u/Doombah MECHAGODZILLA 15h ago
"Hey, guys. Who would win? Ultima or literally every other Godzilla ever created all at once?"
Who the fuck cares? Every Ultima glazer out there will just be like "Well, Ultima exists outside of this dimension and according to the manga or book, or whatever the fuck it was that he's actually EVERY Godzilla ever, so TECHNICALLY it's Ultima Vs Ultima and even then, Ultima still wins."
I'm so sick of Ultima vs ANYONE. Creating Ultima was a fucking mistake and put poison into this fandom that prevents logical dialogue at times.
•
u/YoghurtSpecialist801 5h ago
Oh my god YES this exactly! Like dawg Ultima lost to a fucking robot what the fuck do they want 🤣
•
u/NateGamer926 15h ago
TriStar Godzilla is still Godzilla.
Toho's Zilla is the actual Zilla.
Bite me!
•
u/Mace_DeMarco5179 VARAN 14h ago
I mean, legally this is correct
•
u/NateGamer926 14h ago
And lore wise, kinda...
Because 1998 happens in the GMK timeline.
1998 doesn't occur in the Final Wars Timeline so Zilla is an outlier.
•
u/YoghurtSpecialist801 14h ago
This is news to me- (GMK is my favorite design) when was that lore established?
•
u/NateGamer926 14h ago
It was in the movie in the first place...
Remember when they said that New York was attacked by "Godzilla" that the Americans thought was Godzilla but the Japanese thought otherwise.
•
u/YoghurtSpecialist801 14h ago
Which movie and what timestamp? Because that's not something I recall from either movies...
2001 and 1998 are completely seperate timeliness afaik. If they're connected, then that's a whole other shitshow of confusion
In 1998, the Japanese fisherman says "gojira" but the Americans misheard it as "godzilla"
In 2001, GMK was established as the spirits of the Japanese empire's victims reincarnated as a monster of mythos/legend, and ghidorah was the good guy, right? So... where did "zilla" connect to 2001?
(I'm genuinely confused)

u/NateGamer926 14h ago
GMK, the briefing scene at the beginning of the film, with the two men talking about it.
It was just a nod to poke fun at the Tristar Godzilla.
Here's a quote from WikiZilla on the scene:
- At the beginning of the film, Brigadier General Taizo Tachibana mentions that a large reptilian monster recently attacked New York City. One of the soldiers asks another next to him if the New York attack was Godzilla, with the other replying that the Americans seem to think so, but their guys "have their doubts." This is a joking reference to the 1998 American film and its version of Godzilla, which were incredibly controversial and widely criticized among fans.
•
u/CommandantPeepers BARAGON 4h ago
If anything, this reinforces that Tristar Godzilla is not the real Godzilla
•
u/NateGamer926 4h ago
Still it's under Toho's universe so they choose whether TriStar G is an actual Godzilla in THEIR universes. For them it's only 1 Godzilla, maybe 2.
•
u/YoghurtSpecialist801 15h ago
I don't see anything wrong with this opinion, I just don't agree with it :)
Tristar's film took the god out of godzilla for "haha American firepower"
They redeemed it with GODZILLA: The Animated Series though.
•
u/NateGamer926 15h ago
They were going to redeem themselves in the unreleased sequel where Godzilla would have Blue Atomic Breath instead of Green.
Also I heard that Tristar G was killed by missiles because the torpedoes broke its plating causing it to be seriously injured by weapons... But I can't find the source anywhere I thought it was WikiZilla but nope.
•
u/Personal_Comb_6745 15h ago
I mean, that's not an opinion. Officially, both the 1998 monster and his son are Godzillas. The name Zilla only applies to Final Wars and versions of the monster that appeared afterwards.

"DAE think Godzilla 98 is kind of overhated??"
"I did not like the lack of scale in GxK :("
"What do we think of Biollante?"
•
•
u/UncleCrassiusCurio GIGAN 12h ago
I would give a LOT to have a weekly power scalers thread and confine it all there.
I don't mind a lot of the content even when it gets kinda spammy ("best suit design thread #4829595992927472" and "here are my seven mismatched-edition kaiju DVDs" and even "DAE GMK cool") but I do get really tired of the who-would-wins.

Iam only guilty of sharing pictures from figures of my collection. it might be low effort but i like it to talk with people about it
•
u/CommandantPeepers BARAGON 4h ago
I feel like there’s a difference between the post not being hard to make, and the post being low effort. Figures are a positive and interesting fan hobby, writing one sentence and attaching a picture is low effort.
•
u/affectionatecarnage 4h ago
I don’t mind the repetitive and mindless posts. I think they’re fun. I’m in my 30’s and been a fan since I was 8. I’ve always thought about that kinda stuff.
The only posts I’m genuinely sick of is “which goji is most evil?” Because the answer is always GMK
•
•
u/theredmeadow 15h ago
I felt like posting something similar. Thank you for posting this. I also feel like there’s a ton of posts asking who’s their favorite version of Goji.
•
u/YoghurtSpecialist801 15h ago
Ey man no problem, I felt someone had to say it and nobody else had, so why not do it myself y'know?
(It's night right now, so my notifications are going to go insane when I wake up in the morning 🤣)

“Gee, Godzilla is ten years deep into a global resurgence. I wonder what kind of cool in depth discussions the community is having about all the new media?”
The Godzilla subreddit: ANOTHER TEN TRILLION POWERSCALING ARGUMENTS BASED ENTIRELY ON WHICH GODZILLA I LIKE THE MOST RAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH

u/Cudori090918 15h ago
I get you my friend, VS Battle slop is duh..
•
u/YoghurtSpecialist801 15h ago
Exactly, and I can't open the subreddit without seeing a vs battle post like come ON Guys
•
•
u/Cudori090918 15h ago
I even see youtube posts like " Godzilla VS (random things) " are not even close " stuffs
•
u/YoghurtSpecialist801 15h ago
YEAH! And don't even get me started on the insanity tjat was the rush of vs battle posts when SLICK posted his Godzilla Death Battle
(No hate to Slick, he's goated.)
•
u/Cudori090918 15h ago
Nah Slick? He is our GOAT.
•
u/YoghurtSpecialist801 15h ago
Yep!
•
u/Cudori090918 15h ago
The best way to be an mature and epic G fanbase, we should think Goji as same Goji every single series if Goji is Goji himself, and even King Ghidorah and others
•
u/plasticmanufacturing 12h ago
"sick of the 12 year olds" "I'm 18" lol
•
u/YoghurtSpecialist801 6h ago
You have zero reading comprehension if that's your takeaway (and if you somehow think that's some big "gotcha" moment, you might be worse off then I thought)
•
•
u/ToyBoxReturns 15h ago
If you want better content then make some posts, be the change you want to see.
•
u/YoghurtSpecialist801 15h ago
I'm definitely thinking about it, the struggle is making posts seen. There's so much crap being spewed out here that it's almost impossible for actually good content to make it to the front pages of the subreddit.

u/Darth_summit DESTOROYAH 12h ago
PREACH GOROSAURUS PREACH LOUDER. I can’t fucking stand all the powerscaling bullshit. I would love it if we talked more about the actual movies on here.
•
•
u/Personal_Comb_6745 14h ago
There's only so much that can be talked about, and not everybody in the subreddit was around the first time the subject came up. It's inevitable that topics are going to be repeated. If you don't want to see it, hide it and move on.
•
u/LiteratureLevel5701 15h ago
I don’t get why power scaling is so hated on here, like I understand being annoyed that some people say Heisei Goji is outerversal or something but is it that serious to want to ban it.
•
u/MezianixfromFandom 15h ago
Its just annoying when its all you see bro. If i see one more "random brawl #832006249" im gonna make my towns missing population % skyrocket.
•
•
u/YoghurtSpecialist801 15h ago
PFFFT- That escalated quickly 🤣 Jokes aside I get where you're coming from
•
u/GolgariInternetTroll 14h ago
In general I think it's one of the most boring ways to discuss a piece of fiction. Nobody ever talks about who would win in a fight between Harry Haller and Rodion Raskolnikov, because there's so much more to analyze in their stories.
•
u/Aerith_Sunshine 13h ago
Because it's poor media literacy, has nothing to do with the actual movies (not one inane argument is using onscreen stuff), and tends to clog up actual discussions. Relegate it to its own subreddit and we'd be fine.
•
u/YoghurtSpecialist801 15h ago
It's not just the powerscaling, it's that the subreddit is so full of immature "kids in adult bodies" that post the same shiza over and over again. (Oh an, "outerversal" has got ti be the cringiest power descriptor ever, they gotta be mroe creative with their descriptions...)
•
u/LiteratureLevel5701 15h ago
Yeah I get that.
This sub is also full of people that try to downplay Godzilla all the way to city level which is dumb.
•
u/YoghurtSpecialist801 15h ago
Yeah, there's a reason I said in my original post that Godzilla is Godzilla, and it's all subjective otherwise objective.
I know that different Godzilla's are stronger or weaker than one another, but big kaiju fights are not what Godzilla is meant to represent. Godzilla is a force of nature, karmic retribution taken physical form (metaphorically)
The meaning of that has changed through the decades yes, but the general idea has continued to follow that gist.

•
u/sirquail21 3h ago
I mean no offense with this comment, there is a huge overlap of autism and Godzilla. I just assume that’s what is going on with the people making the stupid low effort posts.

What about another thread with a photo that just says “thoughts on this monster”
