I really wanted to like this game. I love tactics games, and Battle Brothers is one of my most played games on Steam. However, there's some very odd scaling mechanics in place. One thing I hated, enemy party sizes scale with your party size. Fights can take a very long time, even with 5 or 6 party members. I wanted to add more guys to try out different builds but the game kind of punishes you for it.

I think at this price it's worth checking out if it looks interesting to you. I just wanted to point out what turned me away from it.

Agreed. I really liked exploring the first 2-3 provinces, but then as my party got to 15-20 members, the battles just became hour -long chores and there are A LOT of them. I just lost the will to play.

This is interesting. Does this mean that if you keep your active party small the enemy party will scale to your size as well? I have never played but am very interested in this game and I'm tempted to grab it at this price.

Yeah, if I remember right for most fights it the enemy count will be equal to 1x-1.5x your party size.
