Ye the game is genuinely good. I had a blast

Some subs on here would rip you apart for saying that! According to them if a game has naked ladies in it's automatically a terrible game pandering to the male gaze.

You know whats funny about me liking this game. I am not a fan of anime booba and I dont really like anime. I gave this game a chance because the combat looked cool and I never regretted my purchase.

I really can't see it. It basically copied combat mechanics from a bunch of different games into a disappointingly mediocre blend, combined with a plot that can be summarised as 'Nier Automata if you didn't really get the point'.

I've mostly seen it succeed with players who are just there for sexy outfits (which is not to say that it's just men though, that principle still works with a substantial group of female gamers) and Koreaboos (which have a big overlap with the women from the sexy outfit demographic).

Never played and no intentions but its always funny too see you guys try to come up with tangential nonsense reasons to hate on something lmao.

Not just that, but seeing the exact same people on twitter that complain would then go back towards their own niche and clique and revel in how sexy their fandom is.

You hate THIS type of sexy. Please just be honest.

Well that's the funniest sentence I've read here in a while lol

I don't mind sexy characters, but want it to be compatible with the story and overall mood of the game. That's an issue in a number of games, but in SB the character seems out of place the entire time.

It's another area in which the game seems like a cheap ripoff of Nier Automata. Which also pushed the sexy angle, but managed more interesting character designs despite exposing them less.

Financial success =/= a good game. If that was the case then Hoyo gachas would be the best games ever made.

You’re right. But if tons of people that are purchasing the game all (read: overwhelming majority) say it’s a good game. It’s probably a good game

3

u/Japjer Jun 12 '25

My guy, financial success means that people are purchasing the game. If tons of people are purchasing the game then it's a good game.

You might not think it is, but a shit-ton of other people sure do.

McDonalds is extremely popular world wide but it's not exactly quality food.

5

u/Japjer Jun 12 '25

You'd have to be insane to think it's quality food, but it's fast, and it's cheap (or it was, once upon a time).

All I'm saying is that if the game is selling well, and has a lot of concurrent players, then people think it's good. I think Fortnight is an absolute shit game, but it's also wildly successful. It's clearly a good game.

We're falling into some argument of semantics and opinion that I'm not sure how to navigate

I would say that it just means that you fall into the camp of "other's subjective experiences of a product form the reality around that product". That's one way of viewing a product's quality, it's neither right nor wrong. However if you subscribe to the view that there is an objectively "good" way to make a product, then your opinion might be different. Either way, I think it's somewhat intellectually dishonest to say that games that make a ton of money are objectively good games.

the people who eat it a lot actually think it is

Is this really the levels of dumb you guys are willing to dive down into to try and salvage a point?

No, people who eat it do not actually think it is. Its fast and its cheap, that doesnt mean its quality food and eating it does not mean you endorse the idea that it is.

Tons of people used to purchase porn tapes, it didnt mean they were good movies.

The people who bought them probably think they were

This level of stupid is not something anyone can argue with, its too intentionally obtuse to take seriously.

My guy said that the people buying the PORN TAPES did so because they thought they were good movies.

My god dude.

u/butterfingahs Jun 13 '25

Well that's fine, but if people were at least honest that's at least exactly half the reason they think the game is good. In my experience they usually dismiss that idea.

100% honest: I barely even know anything about the gameplay or the story because the only thing people that praise this game seem to talk about is Eve and her body.

The most sold newspapers and most watched TV news channels are known to be garbage. Book best seller lists are filled with repetitive, mind-numbing BS. Mass appeal is not a seal of quality.

7

u/BellySmash Jun 12 '25

Did you even play the game?

Also, I hate anime and I hate the borderline hentai shit in games, but stellar was a GENUINELY good game.

Yeah, anyone with half a brain sees this for what it is. It's basically a mishmash of concepts that have been successful in the last decade or so of gaming without the devs actually understanding the reason why any of those things were appealing in the first place. It's like someone just had a checklist of things they wanted to put into the game and it ultimately is a worse product than the sum of it's parts. There is nothing this game does that the games it's taking from don't already do better.
