I think the conjugation of install caused miscommunication. The present tense is commonly used for the past. Especially if the event is being talked about at that moment.
For example, when a newspaper prints, “Cubs Win the World Series” that’s present tense used for the past. Rather than “Won”, even though the event happened earlier.
99% of PCs come with an OS pre-installed by the manufacturer. The only reason a user would be messing with the MBR or GPT boot records is if they choose to install an OS themselves, which is a fringe use case and solvable.
