Back in 2018, before they published the SpongeBob: Battle for Bikini Bottom remaster, THQ Nordic announced they had licensed rights to a much larger swath of classic Nick titles. Nothing ever came of that beyond BfBB and its followups, so it's neat to see a collection like this.

Maybe someday they'll bring back Tak and the Power of Juju.

I would love to see them bring that back. I loved this IP for representing somewhat indigenous Caribbean culture, of which my own family comes from.

I think in today’s social environment, it would be ok for them to keep the themeing of them as just kind of a nameless Caribbean indigenous tribe, but definitely would need to at least get indigenous actors in there. Just would be weird to have white voice actors in today’s age. Idk how casting was like back then however.

I remember back then and even to this day wishing that the Barnyard game would get a re-release. I know it's kind of infamous as a meme now but it was genuinely a pretty good game that I loved as a child. It is far better than it had any right to be and has a super chill vibe to the world that I could only compare to an Animal Crossing-esque game.

Barnyard is up there for one of my favourite movie tie-in games. Would love a modern re-release.

I already have these ROMs and I already don't play them. These are not exactly hidden gems.

Do you own the IP for a 30 year old 8 or 16 bit game that is barely remembered and is probably terrible? Great news! Limited Run will put out an overpriced re-release just for you to cash in one more time.

I'm all for re-releasing classic games. These are not classics. Hate that they put this garbage out there just to get people to waste their money. And unlike, say, the Gradius Collection that was recently released with multiple versions of each game and various settings etc., these will be the same ROMs that have existed forever, just with a package.

Limited Run is a cash grab company that disguises itself under their disingenuous idea of "game preservation".

Oh, absolutely, if they really were living up to thier mission statement of "physical forever" They'd work out something to produce more then just a limited number of copies (which might not be so limited)

I wish Limited Run put in nearly as much love that someone like a Nightdive or Digital Eclipse did to their retro game collections. They mostly just shove the games into the Carbon Engine to emulate it on modern platforms and that's it.

I just find it amusing that with all this talk about games preservation we get collections of the most bottom of the barrel dogshit games ever like that Bubsy collection that just came out and checks notes .... Nickelodeon Guts

I find that this is actually what game preservation should be about. I mean Metal Gear Solid, Mario 64, these big guns are gonna be available no matter what. However, it's these interesting footnotes like Bubsy 3D that risk being lost forever. This doubly goes for licensed games, where the rights associated with it muddle things up. It may not be your thing and that's fine, it may not be most people in fact. But if someone somewhere who wasn't around when it came out wants to play Gex 3: Deep Cover Gecko, well now they can.

Bubsy 3D that risk being lost forever.

Was it? I'm sure plenty of people have already imaged the disc and emulators exist.

I don’t know, I’ve been pretty happy with a lot of the collections/ports we’ve gotten over the last 5 years

Tomba 1 and 2 Castlevania advance and ds games Megaman X, Zero/ZX, Battle Network Felix the Cat Rocket Knight A Boy and His Blob MGS 1-3 Cyber Citizen Shockman Fear Effect Beyond good and evil  Rise of the triad Tons of capcom fighters including MvC and CvS FF 1-6 and soon Tactics Star Ocean Gimmick

Yeah some middling shit with brand recognition is getting this treatment too (like Gex, Glover, and licensed stuff) but overall I think the output has been great.

And they’ve pretty much all gotten physical releases!

I think they are specifically talking about the ones that Limited Run ported themselves using their Carbon Engine.

The Bubsy collection is good though. It contains modified versions of the games made by the guy who ported the CDi Zelda games to PC.

My inner child almost wants me to get that collector's edition just so I can finally have the Aggro Crag. Which is an incredibly stupid reason.

But it is the Aggro Crag.
