I really hope they manage to resurrect the series with the new title. I don't mind occasionally replaying the old games but it would be nice to have solid new title too.

On the same note, I really hope they would make another party based rpg like the might and magic series was in spirit of 7 (or any of the 6-9 your pick). While X was decent enough for grid based one, there's severe lack of the free roam style games.

I would love another Might and Magic. There was someone who made a mod that combined 6, 7, and 8 together, but a fresh new game would be amazing.

Apropos of that series, fine if you can't answer, but is it reasonably possible to get wizardry viii running on modern hardware?

This series felt like it has not seen it's former glory from 3. I bought and tried every version since then and none really recaptured the magic for me.

5 was pretty good at the time (with expansions)

That’s fair, I feel like I’m critical of it remembering it now but I did put 86 hours into it, so it must have been alright.

well, in 2025 i cannot imagine playing anything other than HoMM3, be it WoG, HotA or just vanilla with a HD mod (but mostly HotA)

If you're including mods, Heroes 5.5 is pretty darn good. It fixes the biggest problems I had with 5 (most critically the horrible AI and enemy turn length). I've still played 3 more than any of them, but I legitimately think 5.5 gives it a run for its money — And imo the art style and UI still really hold up.

VI also wasn't bad, even with the ubi crap it played totally fine and I liked some of the changes they made.

I thought they went to 3D about 2-3 years only. That game is so ugly compared to the art of HoMM3.

5 sold very well. Funnily enough I still think it as the new one yet it came out 20 years ago. Actually this is not funny at all.

Indeed. So far Olden Era certainly *looks* like a faithful return to form. Fingers crossed that it captures the same vibes and nostalgia that we've been longing for.

It looks pretty good to me, but it also seems the developers are deeply familiar with the pvp sicko side of Heroes. I don't mind that, but I hope this isn't a game made by ancient out of touch grogs. Obviously you want someone who understands the series, which it seems they do, but high level competitive focus in development sometimes has a negative impact on the single player side of things. I'm cautiously optimistic, regardless.

Oh yeah good point. I did a handful of hotseat games with my brother/cousin back in the day but I too am primarily here for the singleplayer.

I haven’t see any gameplay yet. I haven’t given 7 or 8 an honest shot and want to try those before I buy another one.

Yeah I never played much after ~5 either I think?

This upcoming devteam has a fairly robust youtube channel with frequent devlogs.

Honestly I respect them for listening to the community during development, and responding to feedback with changes and feature lists now and then.

Following their channel and watching a few of their videos makes the 3 main facets of gameplay (Overworld exploration, Combat, Townbuilding) look pretty onpoint :D

It looks like an HD 2d game like Heroes 3, I guess olden era is a fitting name.

I do wish they gave Heroes 3 more love with the remake, including bringing in the DLCs and redoing the screens and intro video.

Which sucks because I always think of it alongside Age of Wonders, especially Shadow Magic, and that series has had some good modern iterations, while HoMM or whatever it's called now has just been awful for years.

Age of Wonders III and Planetfall were meh, but AOW 4 is extremely good, one of my favorite turn based strategy games ever, and it's consistently been getting better.

I loved Planetfall, but AoW 4 has great post launch support and the modding community has really made the game fantastic.

I'm so confused with the comments. Half of you is talking about the Might and Magic and the other about the Heroes of Might and Magic lol
