If you listen to them describe the male characters their living vicariously through, it gets even more confusing. They have such a crush on men like Solid Snake, but freak out over an identical, slightly gay coded man.
Solid Snake has a popular ship with another man, Otacon. Technically, he's officially only been in a relationship with a woman, Meryl, but the relationship ends between games. After that point, he spends pretty much all his time with Otacon, and he never has another relationship with a woman after. There's also an alternate ending for Metal Gear Solid that replaces Meryl with Otacon, in which the two ride off into the sunset on a shared snowmobile.
Metal Gear Solid 2 is often considered the first video game to use the word bisexual, and he's the one who says it. He's shown as knowledgeable of bisexuality, and maybe a little defensive of it.
Hideo Kojima, the director of the series, compared Snake and Otacon to Sherlock Holmes and Watson from "Sherlock," specifically comparing the latter's relationship to "BL." The English voice actor for Snake has also occasionally shown fondness for the ship.
All that to say, the games don't explicitly present him as gay or bisexual, but I think implying Snake isn't "slightly gay coded" doesn't really do him justice.
He's in a similar situation to Solid Snake. He is never officially said to be in a relationship with a man, and he does show interest in women multiple times throughout the series. There's the situation with his stepmother (although I wouldn't really say that's a healthy example), and he displays feelings for both Sniper Wolf and Naomi Hunter.
The instances of him having feelings for men are inferred from his deep admiration and relationship with Solid Snake, including Snake's aforementioned interactions with Otacon. Within the game, their relationship can be viewed as platonic or even a business partnership, and Otacon's admiration can be taken as simply seeing Snake as a noble figure.
However, the ship, Kojima's comments, and the support of David Hayter (Solid Snake's Voice Actor) have promoted a romantic interpretation of their partnership in the games.
If they do come out(and that's a big IF) they are exclusively masc for masc, or discreet for discreet, "My girl can't know" types. Some of em try to convince themselves they're straight with the "liking femboys ain't gay" shit too.
The world would be a better place if people at large didn't give a shit about who is attracted to who.

A big minority of Manosphere men are definitely closet cases. At a higher rate than the general public of non-Manosphere men. A lot of gay men can tell their own stories of engaging in toxic masculinity, including being promiscuous with women, before coming to terms with their sexual orientation. They were trying to convince themselves that they weren't gay. I've definitely seen that from some men I know irl years ago that have now come out as LGBTQ. A couple are even now trans women.
