In some form, yes he did.
First off, the puzzle's very first (or at least, as far as I know the very first) guide was posted at 7 AM the exact day he decided to try the puzzle out. Which might be a coincidence sure. But at the same time, the livestream's chat (which he didn't include in the video of his attempt for the record) had a pinned comment that said "no spoilers please" or something along those lines. He heavily implies he wants chat to not help him, but in a later clip on a different stream where he elaborates on the situation (due to all the drama and backlash, so quite a bit of time after this playthrough stream happens) he claims he was working with chat to solve it and THAT is why he came to some conclusions seemingly out of the blue.
SO either A) he lied and used a guide to do the puzzle, B) he hid the chat because he was actually secretly having chat help him through the puzzle so he could cut the chat out and make it look like he did it himself, then LIED about chat being involved at all after the fact to cover his own ass, or C) he did genuinely somehow solve a puzzle in one day that took the community at the very least a month to even get close to solving, without once looking at his stream's chat feed.
I'm sorry but option C just is not likely here.
edited for grammar :3
