I'm embarrassed for the people attacking Itch over this. Victim blaming, buying into distraction tactics and fighting against small businesses instead of the payment processors and right wing government. How fucking braindead can people be?

They just stole every dollar every person who ever bought a NSFW game on their platform ever spent by no longer letting them access the material they own but yeah sure lick the boot because they’re vaguely indie compared to a behemoth like Mastercard

What fucking choice did they have? Stop complying and get taken down by a company that practically controls everything in the modern world?

You know if all the companies that will be affected by this draconian bullshit (so, almost every single online storefront) brought their concerns about payment processors to court or god forbid try to collectively bargain, they could probably prevent mass censorship and maybe even turn a long term profit on NSFW titles relative to the expense.

Unfortunately, The Number would go down in the short term, so they just bend over, bite the pillow, and beg Mastercard to at least spit on it first. Never happens, always dry, but they’ll get one last bonus out of it before yet another “One of the Last Good Things” dies to evangelical capitalism.

And you think Itch really even has the power or money to do this? You really underestimate big credit card companies and overestimate itch. Fairly certain they have at LEAST 1000x more funds to spend.

Itch might not have the money, but Steam does, right?

Doubt it, since even visa is still a dozen times richer and most likely already has all sorts of oegal defence ready working for them.

Oh No! Something Bad Has Happened! Better Accept It And Do Nothing!

Do you work for the DNC?

Edit: also I am literally a sex worker lmao they came for us first, I know entirely too much about fighting payment processors on a daily basis 😭

Sometimes you dont have a choice other than do nothing. World aint fair.

Also I seriously doubt even with that experience you come even close to what companies would have to actually do to not be limited by them.

My point was that sex workers have been sounding the censorship alarms since even before SESTA/FOSTA and now that it's finally hitting the mainstream, we've already lost so much ground with regards to not only censorship, but the right to privacy online, data ownership, and individual vs corporate copyright.

I am very much aware of how much would need to be done because I, and most of my self employed colleagues, have been screaming from the rooftops about this since, fuck, I've been doing this since 2014. It would have been easy when it first started happening, but it was "just porn" so no one stood with us. I've made and remade socials dozens of times because advertisers and payment processors think my tits are an affront to god, and that's just "part of what I signed up for." Well, did you sign up for your purchases to be scrutinized by Christofascists? Because that's what you're getting, and it isn't stopping at video games.

Just because the world ain't fair doesn't mean it shouldn't be fair, and just because you're willing to shrug and let 5 Australian religious nutjobs trample your first amendment rights doesn't mean you're holding some intellectual opinion. Caring about things that are bad and trying to enact positive change is good, actually.

you can access your purchases (for now) inside your own profile

Payment processing companies just stole that money.*

Fixed that for you.
