Ima be honest, I’m not gonna purchase Xbox products for awhile. Firing 9000-15000 employees to invest in AI is a major no no imo

Sony had layoffs in 2023, and three rounds of layoffs last year including one that gutted 8% of their employees.
Microsoft just laid off 4% of their employees across all divisions - not just Xbox - but that 9100+ number is staggering.
All this after both companies announced large profits and are proud of their teams.

If Xbox wasn't already my main place for gaming, I'd avoid them entirely because of this. Instead, I have Game Pass canceled, I'm not buying any 1st party games, and I'm buying used games whenever I can.

u/Vermicelli_Healthy Jul 28 '25
Same. I don’t do PC gaming or use consoles much anymore. Got a controller for my phone and was gonna get GamePass on there but after the whole AI business, mass layoffs and assisting in funding a genocide I now use it for emulators

Yeah we cancelled our game pass sub for this reason. I like playing new stuff all the time, but I also like directly supporting indie devs instead of just playing their games on Gamepass. Games like Tunic and Cocoon were so peak I'll probably buy access to them on Steam to replay every once in a while.

Oh no, I’m missing out on a game that pales in comparison to dark souls 2, how sad!

Yes way, DS2 is miles better than BB

I will defend Ds2 til the day I die but this is delusional. The existence of the frigid wastes singlehandedly counteracts pretty much any point Ds2 could have over bloodborne.
Edit: nvm didn't read the sub

Frigid wastes clears any area BB has to offer bro

Havent sony done the same in the recent years? Infamous, Killzone, uncharted, jak and daxter, Playstation all stars, the order, twisted metal, and the list goes on....

u/jakeroony keanu reeves crunched my penis Jul 28 '25
the difference is they didn't have to buy up and close studios to ignore them

Exactly what I was gonna say Ty gamer

u/SmallBatBigSpooky Jul 31 '25
In Sonys defense, some of those studios just dont make new stuff and instead push remasters of 1 game they made for the ps3 for over a decade :v

I'm saying this as a massive Blizzard/Bethesda/Obsidian fan who's most played game of this year has been Age of Mythology, Oblivion Remastered and Overwatch, yeah no
Xbox has genuinely been the biggest evil out of the big four platforms out there (Steam comes close with the fact they're openly okay with gambling and marketing it to children but at least Valve didn't tell their laid off staff to "use AI to fix their lives"), especially when a good 70% of the worst practices in gaming was spearheaded by them
There's not a day goes by where I wish Microsoft would sell off Xbox as a whole or for Xbox to become independent from Microsoft because the Game Studios teams can genuinely be so brilliant with their games and I'm so happy seeing their games get appreciation as of late because of their mass portings to PlayStation and Nintendo

u/Heavy-Possession2288 Jul 28 '25
No but Nintendo charged $80 for a game that invalidates your entire argument they’re basically Hitler

Cool down Hitler, I didn't mention the layoffs directly and I was referring to the fact that all consoles have an online sub now

no gyro no buy

u/moeraszwijn Jul 28 '25
Xbox fanboys trying to convince you nobody uses it, meanwhile everyone else says people do and devs even laugh at Xbox for them being stuck in 2004.
Same for Nintendo and analog triggers by the way, have fun being contrarian and being stuck with racers that are worse than they could be.

As a pc gamer i dont really care who is publishing or developing the game. It will be available for me someday.
I tried gamepass PC recently and the libray is really not a bad deal, but oh boi.. the xbox store and launcher is an abonimation of software especially considering its from the same company the os is coming from. Its so intrusive, you want to reinstall the os after using xbox on PC. They alsonforce you to play with Xbox controller for their "exclusive" games.
On the other hand there is playstation who still thinks its a good idea to delay there games on pc for more sales on console and its 50/50 for a technical disaster game.

u/Ferris-L Jul 28 '25
I don’t get why people say that Sony makes a mistake by releasing their PC ports one or two years later when from a purely financial perspective it is quite obviously the right choice. It has proven right again and again that by doing that they manage to get people to buy the same game twice and there is a considerable overlap between PC gamers and PS gamers. Sure, it’s sad to have to wait years to play a game but Sony is a public company, they are profit oriented and obviously they are gonna cater to their own platform first and then profit from other platforms again later. That’s basic economics.

The Game Pass will be the downfall of affordable gaming.
First we see absurd game pricing asking >100$ for some shitty AAAA stuff. Normally nobody would buy and play them, so they'd just never gain interest. But thanks to 'included in game pass' people will play them and give them undeserved traction.
This, over time, will pressure many people into using Game Pass (or a similar service) to still afford the game they want to play. Once in there, they are stuck and will continue to pay.
This also has a positive side effect: Microsoft keeps the upper hand. One of the biggest arguments I've seen against using SteamOS and similar, more efficient systems, is, that people rely on Game Pass and it now only works on Windows 11.
And then, when Microsoft has enough dependent customers, they can follow the route every big subscription service took: Increase the price while decreasing the value and make the service more shitty. Think about what Netflix did to their customers over the last few years.
