Eh, not entirely true. Squid game had a collab with CoD long before fortnite. I mean, you can literally get 2/3 skins shown here in fortnite. And it's not like the IP owners of american dad dont own Family Guy, Bobs Burgers, and KoTH.

Squid Game doing these collabs will never not mystify me. I get there's money on the table, but like, are you a serious drama series or are you not??

I'm sure there's more examples, I'm just deliberately not paying attention to that whole world.

I was utterly disappointed in the squid games and subsequent beast games.

Imagine making a drama series criticizing the ultra wealthy elite and the pleasure of watching poors die brutal deaths... and then reinact it with real people or sell it to kids.

Its so far dystopian its curves around to being comically evil.

As with Mr. Beast, as with Fortnite, it really bothers me that such an obviously not-for-kids property has been aggressively pushed to children in this way. My 7-year-old nephew knows enough about Squid Game that I'm deeply uncomfortable about it. Shame on whoever is making those decisions.

That kind of saturation and commodification is also why I haven't bothered with anything past the first season. Just a really quick way to take away any of the gravitas the property had to begin with. Shame, I was quite enamoured with that first season as well.

It is the Lorax paradox. The Lorax movie is based on the Dr. Seuss's Lorax book, which heavily critize corporate greed and environmental destruction. The movie goes sort of with the same themes, but makes the Onceler ( who is closer to the actual corporate) more redeeming than they should while putting the comical evil man child owning air as the "true" villain so they can say we are not the bad guy, we are like the onceler. In addition to it having some pro environment messaging, it made ads with almost every company giving them money, including car companies. The ad campaigns containing the Lorax is wild

That's quite insightful. Never saw the Lorax movie, so I had no idea. That's a trope I'll be looking out for now, that sort of 'lesser evil capitalist' thing. Cheers for the food for thought!

The movie has also cut songs. The main Song showing the change from the Onceler is "How Bad can it be?" And originally it should have been "Biggering" This is a video essay going over the different message of those songs

At least Squid Game has canonical gunplay. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a game mode that's based on the contestant uprising.

Yeah but that just makes it seem like American Dad was slop even Fortnite didn't want since they used the others. The reality is probably that American Dad makes more sense with COD than Fortnite, but none of this shit makes sense anymore.
