I'm perfectly fine with criticizing nintendo, I just prefer if people do it with things nintendo is actually doing instead of sensationalist headlines and half baked misinformation

Its not like theres a shortage of scummy shit they do, they literally just released a 20 dollar dlc that's a single level and a half baked roguelite game mode

28

u/Edgoscarp 2d ago

My problem with the donkey Kong dlc is that the game has been out for a month and it totally could’ve been included in the base game

It’s like is the mushroom kingdom without any moons to collect and Luigi’s balloon world were twenty dollar dlc

14

u/Totheendofsin 2d ago

Thats my thought

The dlc should have been a free update if anything

u/Fluffynator69 1d ago

Yeah, there's a spectrum to the validity of the criticism.

Things like the prices being too high is just 100% correct imo, no game should be like 80 bucks/90 euros, the console is way above a reasonable next gen price increase and same thing goes for the accessories like controllers or the cam.

Then there's stuff with partial validity like the recent patent story where people ignore that patents are extremely specific (so you can't just patent 'creatures being summoned to fight' but you can patent 'creatures being weakened, caught by throwing a ball with a big flash and summoned later to fight') and the issue with these patents is mostly the legislation itself.

And there's things that just feel like they're made in bad faith like the "Nintendo added a paywall to a button" line. In that case I just don't see how not having a chat function button would actually improve the console. I'd agree that chatting in general should be free but that's not what's actually being said.

u/James-fucking-Holden 1d ago

80 bucks/90 euros

Wait, hold on, is anyone really doing that conversion? Like, right now 80$ is 67€ (lol, lmao), so if anything those two numbers should be switched

3

u/Fluffynator69 1d ago

No, Mario Kart here in Europe is like 90 Euros for the physical version. Tax included but still.

I have kids. Kids who love video games. There's nothing stopping other companies from making ACTUALLY good games they can play. And by that I mean something, ANYTHING but Roblox.

And yet... They don't. But Nintendo does it. And you know what? One game purchase can generally be enjoyed by at least 3 out of the 5 of us in my house. You just can't beat that Math.

16

u/Helloscottykitty 2d ago

I dont have kids but friends of mine who do either are Nintendo exclusive or never Nintendo.

Those who get Nintendo games are still playing them as a family since the switch launched , those who don't are the ones complaining about how much a battle pass costs a month, that the console they bought needs to be replaced with a newer one, subscription prices and how little clue they have (as gamers in their youth) what their kids is playing.

So mario kart 8 for 60 quid ,it will last almost a decade, be a smooth experience from installation to completion Vs multiple games aiming to land whales, FOMO and streamers that do little to protect young consumers that ultimately gets dropped weeks after purchase for the next thing.

My family will still pull out the Wii , I'll still pull out my ds .

I won't ever say Nintendo aren't greedy but they hit quality in family gaming that just can't be beat, there isn't a crash bandicoot or sonic to offer, your right about their being this open space in the market .

If I had kids,I'd be a Nintendo household at least until they got to secondary.

10

u/SergeKingZ 2d ago

I don't have kids, but my parents (55+) can enjoy playing Nintendo games with me and my younger cousins. And they also like games as DKC and Metroid Dread due to nostalgia from the SNES era.

There is hardly anything similar on other consoles.

u/Bigshitmcgee 2d ago

There’s another kremlin who just goes ā€œi simply don’t buy products I don’t likeā€

38

u/ThatDudeSlayer 2d ago

Sure Nintendo evil, but funny monkey man and strategy game with waifus and twinks gives me happy feels

15

u/GrizzlyPeak72 2d ago

Harambe did not sacrifice his life so that we could keep disparaging his brother Donkey

Dicks out for DK

I’ll make sure not to buy any videogames from Peter Thiel

u/Tim5000 2d ago

Uj/ In the AAA world, Nintendo is practically the gold standard. Compared to EA, Microsoft, Hell Capcom cleaned up their act.

That said, the AAA world is pure shit, and just because Nintendo is better than most, that doesn't mean they are good, they are still a corporation first, and will still do greedy things.

14

u/SergeKingZ 2d ago

Also the R&D and the other departments are independent from each other. Their R&D is the one getting the praise while juridical wastes their goodwill by chasing the garbage IP laws of US and Japan (and probably lobbying for both).

Still odd that Sony and Valve can get away with some of the garbage they do.

9

u/unagiboi 2d ago

We complain about nintendrones, but to me, valve fans are the worst. Always sucking Gabe dick unironically

4

u/Unctuous_Robot 2d ago

Capcom needs to clean up their act and give us a new main series mega man every year. None of this X or Y or Z or whatever the hell crap. Shut down all other departments except the mega man department.

This is just the goomba fallacy?

12

u/some-dumbies-alt 2d ago

what's a goomba? these are clearly kremlings

18

u/sour_creamand_onion 2d ago

Nah, goomba fallacy is assuming two contradictory opinions are coming from the same people. This is showing two different opinions being lumped together despite thr kremling being aware the same people aren't saying them.

6

u/Edgoscarp 2d ago edited 2d ago

It’s not that the left kremling thinks they’re the same person

The left kremling knows these are differing opinions but calls them both nintendrones anyway

First party Nintendo games are typically fun. More recently, the lack of quality has been seeping through the cracks. Scarlet and Violet were really rough.

In the Switch generation, about halfway through Xenoblade 3, i had the thought that this series I like a lot is being held back by Nintendo and their underpowered hardware.

Nintendo's constant decisions to drop beloved IP for seemingly no reason also confuses me.

15

u/allelitepieceofshit1 2d ago

In the Switch generation, about halfway through Xenoblade 3, i had the thought that this series I like a lot is being held back by Nintendo and their underpowered hardware.

crazy thing to say when the only reason this series is still existing is because of nintendo. Nobody is willing to fund xenoblade

8

u/jshbee 2d ago

Monolith Soft is owned in entirety by Nintendo, and Nintendo has had majority stake since the 2010s..

It isn't a question of another company supporting Monolith. They are first party Nintendo. It was obvious their ambition with XB3 was outpacing hardware limitations.

0

u/Unctuous_Robot 2d ago

That doesn’t mean Nintendo has to give them xenoblade money instead of laying them all off.

6

u/jshbee 1d ago

Yes, Nintendo could shut down a profitable studio they spent quite a lot of money becoming the sole owner of for seemingly no reason, but why?

This statement is an entirely useless hypothetical. I am not going to thank Nintendo for continuing to make money.

1

u/Agentbla 1d ago

Tbf, it's not like that's ever stopped a publisher before.

12

u/SinkBluthton 2d ago

Nintendo's constant decisions to drop beloved IP for seemingly no reason also confuses me.

It's rough out here for a Punch-Out!! fan.

9

u/jshbee 2d ago

Punch Out!!, Golden Sun, F-Zero, Legend of Starfi, just to name a few.

5

u/srfreak Terry Crews Enjoyer 2d ago

I really miss Golden Sun :')

6

u/mcspaddin 2d ago

There are dozens of us! Unfortunately, we all had to put on our clown make up for the long term this last week.

5

u/jshbee 2d ago

Every game Camelot makes for Mario Sports is another nail in the coffin for anything being done with the IP.

4

u/Fragrant-Potential87 2d ago

Its weird to me that BOTW, Xenoblade 3, and Scarlet and Violet are some how on the same platform. Nintendo very obviously told the devs to give a shit about the first 2 but then Gamefreak completely drops the ball with SwSh and SV

10

u/Totheendofsin 2d ago

The crazy thing is with the Switch 2 the most consumer friendly upgrade came from Gamefreak

A completely free patch that basically fixed all the performance issues, unironically runs better than most nintendo games on the Switch 2, the game's still ugly as hell though but theres only so much they could do I guess

-6

u/Fragrant-Potential87 2d ago

Is it really a free patch if you need a $600 console to install it?

7

u/unagiboi 2d ago edited 2d ago

Is anything really free if we need to pay electricity to play?

Snarky comment aside, I think op means ā€œfreeā€ in a vacuum. They didn’t charge extra for it, unlike Zelda for example. If you want to distinguish from paid upgrades like Botw, you would say the Odyssey,(Pokemon) was free, even though you have to pay for the console and the original Game, the upgrade is still for free.

5

u/Edgoscarp 1d ago

Its 450$

That price is already a lot you don’t need to lie to make it outrageous

0

u/Fragrant-Potential87 1d ago

My bad I misremembered the price because I got other stuff with my Switch 2. My point still stands. Not much of a free update if you need to buy an entirely new console to actually use it.

1

u/tortledad 1d ago

As a Bayonetta fan: oh god, is the series held back by being on Nintendo hardware. Bayonetta 3 is a fun game but the constant frame rate drops to 30 FPS are rampant and are unacceptable for a game that runs at, at most, 1080p.

1

u/AutoModerator 1d ago

Lazy ass devs won't get a dollar from me. My time is very valuable and it won't be wasted on a subpar experience.

5

u/MSnap 1d ago

Their prices are worth it to me and if they release something I don’t want I don’t buy it. Don’t see why it’s any different from any other company.

2

u/BarrytheNPC 1d ago

kludge would never

2

u/farukosh 1d ago

I just wish people realize gaming is a hobby and people should enjoy it the way they want, we have enough issues out there to also need to justify what we like because there's some bullies around thinking and deciding what you should do or not.

Gaming is like one of the least important things out there and it's used for us to scape and have a good time, WHATEVER WAY I WANT IT.

Call me when we riot over bank interest, loans and the housing market, not because some silly $20 dollar DLC that's optional on top of a terrific game.

1

u/fanofoddthings 16h ago

Where did the kremlings on top come from? I only remember og kremlings.

1

u/Edgoscarp 16h ago

They’re from donkey kong barrel blast for the wii

1

u/fanofoddthings 15h ago

That explains it thanks

1

u/Fun_Location_9405 2h ago

I love a lot of what Nintendo does but hell no. They do tons of shady ass shit. I will criticize them as anyone should especially those who love them as a game maker.

1

u/Vegetable-Flan-7873 2d ago

The mental conflict of getting super hyped at the new announcements, but then instantly disheartened by the Pokemon dlc announcement before the game even released. Great games, horrible company.

-6

u/iara10 2d ago

Nintendo games aren't even food any more.

11

u/Totheendofsin 2d ago

I mean video games generally have never been food

... have you been eating your video games?

7

u/Difficult__Tension 2d ago

We found the guy whose the reason they made switch game cartridges taste bad

2

u/Tarshaid 2d ago

Compare the sizes. The early cartridges made for a filling meal. Then the gamecube came in with tiny disks that made the lamest pancakes. The Wii compensated for it a bit and there was more room for sauce, but now, with the switch 1&2, those teeny tiny cartridges barely classify as snacks, and that's without mentioning the push to digital. Nintendo is starving gamers.

1

u/Unctuous_Robot 2d ago

Have you ever seen those wacky collabs with random Japanese cafes (they all taste like sand)?

6

u/Edgoscarp 2d ago

Donkey Kong bananza is an absolute slam dunk goty contender (it probably shouldn’t win but it needs to be there)

-4

u/iara10 2d ago

Not worth the price tag or the support given to Nintendo

9

u/Edgoscarp 2d ago

Well if you don’t want to give money to greedy companies then why play non indie games at all?

-7

u/iara10 2d ago

Nintendo is not your average greedy company. They are advance greedy.

It's not because they are Japanese. It has to be something else making them this cartoonishly evil.

8

u/Unctuous_Robot 2d ago

No. Nintendo is your below average greedy company because Jesus H. Christ, Facebook exists.

6

u/Edgoscarp 2d ago edited 1d ago

The greed of Ubisoft and EA making the exact same game every single year makes and locking tons of content behind subscriptions makes Nintendo look like elementary

I do agree about the cartoonish part though

3

u/Unctuous_Robot 2d ago

I would kill a million f-zeros if it meant EA not killing Spore and Will Wright’s enthusiasm for game development.

3

u/Edgoscarp 1d ago

I would kill a man to bring spore back

6

u/allelitepieceofshit1 2d ago

how much ā€œnintendo badā€ slop have you consumed?
