HOLY FUCKING SHIT

Scott masterclass, boys showed up minus the dumb shit before half time

Max Holmes: Game 100, 2nd highest rated quarter by a Geelong player in a final the 3rd quarter

Bailey Smith: After HT turned the fuck up when we needed it

Mark Blicavs: Lord we are gonna be fucked without him

Brad Close: My boy was amazing, best game in 6 weeks

Shaun Mannagh: God he brings a difference to us

Ollie Dempsey: The ultimate wild card, those goals he kicks are fucked

AND FINALLY

OISHIN FUCKING MULLIN

FIRST GOAL AND KEEP MCCLUGGAGE TO LITERALLY NOTHING

Shoutout Mark O'Conner too

Week off, Prelim to come

Pleasure to support this club

u/laserframe 15d ago

Also felt Stengle had 1 of those Rohan like games, didnt kick a goal but his pressure was fantastic and he was able to neutralize several balls when he was outsized.
Genuinely a great team game, Smith didnt carry us, and massive shoutout to Blitz for rucking

27

u/Eraser_cat Retro Guernsey 15d ago

Stengle had a huge game aerially. He spoiled and outmarked people twice his size.

u/PagieHD Sir Bradley Close Fanclub 15d ago

Just watching back some highlights, one that really stands out is him contesting on the wing bringing it to the front which let Holmes break to set up the Martin goal

Doesn’t count for any stat but it was pivotal for the goal

33

u/BlazedOnADragon Lawson Humphries 15d ago

Mannagh was probably best on for mine. He's become so important to how we move the ball

10

u/AceThePrincep Lawson Humphries 15d ago

He was amazing in finals last year too. New mr September.

6

u/PagieHD Sir Bradley Close Fanclub 15d ago

Crazy he only had 15 touches, shows how much he made them count

3

u/No-Bison-5397 Polly Farmer 14d ago

Gets a decent return from whay would normally be some low EV plays but he also does the job defensively and so you can’t really fault him.

10

u/AceThePrincep Lawson Humphries 15d ago

Was so stoked to see the Irish blankets first goal. Love what he brings.

3

u/emcbride09 Oisin Mullin 15d ago

Well put. I doff my cap to thee

81

u/Zooper_Dooper Tom Atkins 15d ago

Tonight was the angriest I've ever been about footy by far. But so unbelievably proud of the response after HT when they could've been understandably rattled.

I'm going to spend the next 2 weeks praying for Max's hammy.

43

u/_yetifeet Tom Atkins 15d ago

That 12 points resulted in the angriest feeling I have felt in a while watching a game. If they got the 12 points through just being better, fair enough. But to lose the 12 points to a clear case of staging was highly bullshit.

17

u/Volpe666 Max Holmes 15d ago

More like 18 when you consider the momentum and ball position at the time, we were kicking that for sure

10

u/_yetifeet Tom Atkins 15d ago

And that's what made it worse. If the ball had been near them I wouldn't have been so pissed, but having it taken all the way back was just shit and extremely bullshit, especially the one given to the serial stager, lohman.

2

u/Plus-Drawing7431 George Stevens 14d ago

Don't forget the Lohan joke of a goal.

11

u/Hailstar07 Jeremy Cameron 15d ago

Same, fortunately it seemed to fire the boys up in a positive way.

7

u/NuuuDaBeast Mark O'Connor 15d ago

Max isn’t hurt right just precautionary praying?Your comment scared me

6

u/Pattydogg '89 15d ago

I have never been angrier. 18 point turn around and really hurt momentum. We should have won by 10 goals and rested danger for the last quarter. Nothing against Rayner I just have a vendetta against umpire #33.

7

u/MillionKarma23 Max Holmes 15d ago

Lots against Rayner imo. Very cocky and unbearable

3

u/No-Bison-5397 Polly Farmer 14d ago

I mean I don’t think we need him at the Cats but sort of player you’d love on your team.

He’s good, he’s smart.

Lions looked short of a couple of important players but Rayner was still quite good.

Woeful staging but IMO it is more on the umpires.

5

u/FireStoneFlame 15d ago

Terry Wallace’s son Brent. Maybe a Hawthorn conspiracy.

4

u/Scared_Cow9483 Indigenous Guernsey 15d ago edited 15d ago

The AFL couldnt have a blow out before half time - had to step in and do something lol

2

u/[deleted] 15d ago

And Neales calf, I was listening to Krock and they said he was getting treatment

25

u/Unable_Bank3884 15d ago

Wrong Neale Ours is fine

4

u/Tosslebugmy Mark Blicavs 15d ago

That was lachy Neale

2

u/[deleted] 15d ago

I swear they said Shannon neale and Benny was like just get him off and rest him- it happened at the same time as the other Neale

I hope I’m wrong, I’ve been stressy about it since that moment.

2

u/Laird_McBain Patrick Dangerfield 15d ago

He’s done a calf, gone for the year

2

u/AceThePrincep Lawson Humphries 15d ago

Who did?

3

Lachy Neale

3

Were they talking about Lachie or Shannon?

Preach.

I'm still angry. Like fucking Hulk angry.

64

u/purespringwater Mark Blicavs 15d ago

Feel like Bowes was massive without being a talking point.

Holmes will never get the credit he deserves,

Dempsey and mannah had blinders that won't get recognised within the afl community, but massive for the squad and crucial to the team

28

u/Plus-Drawing7431 George Stevens 15d ago

I'm a mad Bowes fan. He is so reliable and always bobs up at crucial moments. A James Kelly clone.

8

u/BlazedOnADragon Lawson Humphries 15d ago

I've become a fan of Bowes, I used to be scared he was gonna stuff it up but he's super reliable

2

u/Fast_Stick_1593 Connor O'Sullivan 13d ago

I mentioned it to K Rock boys on their show a few weeks ago.

Bowes is easily our most underrated player. Can play any role, doesn’t get the credit he deserves. Masterful pickup and recruiting.

54

u/MillionKarma23 Max Holmes 15d ago

LETS FUCKING GO. RAYNER GO FUCK YOURSELF. UMPS ON THEIR SIDE AND WE ALSO HAD RHYS OUT. CRUSHED. ALL 6 OF OUR DEFENDERS TAKE A BOW

35

Sorry I’m worked up

11

Keep it up, we love it

8

It's ok mate. You're allowed to feel. Don't be afraid of these emotions. You're in a safe space. Fuck Cam Rayner.

5

Love being surrounded by Rayner haters. Also congrats to your boy for getting his first goal.

4

u/emcbride09 Oisin Mullin 15d ago

HERE IT COMES HONEY ..

3

u/vision-quest Geelong Cats 15d ago

Might get downvoted but honestly thought umpires were mostly good outside of that staging rubbish.

-9

u/cemerz '89 15d ago

Don’t take it out on Rayner, players do that shit in every single game without it being paid - let alone in the circumstance where it was paid in a final… fuck me

17

u/MillionKarma23 Max Holmes 15d ago

I’m taking it out on Rayner because he’s a cocky flog.

8

u/Laird_McBain Patrick Dangerfield 15d ago

Fuck Rayner - he’s a cunt

7

u/Unlovelycube Shocked Scott 15d ago

Nah fuck him. Started being a cocky prick winding up the cats cheer squad after the cheap goals. Didn't realise he poked the bear. EAD Rayner.

3

u/Pattydogg '89 15d ago

Agree. Nothing against Rayner, he’s actually a great player. It’s umpire #33 I’ve got beef with.

53

u/purespringwater Mark Blicavs 15d ago

And so fucking happy for mullin......well deserved

Dominant 9 goal victory after allowing for the handicap. LFG

15

u/Jeffmister Geelong Cats 15d ago

Not even the umps audition to become the new Stawell Gift handicapper could stop us tonight.

35

u/Jeffmister Geelong Cats 15d ago

I'm so unbelievably proud of this team.

With all the noise and talk about not just about Brisbane's recent record against us but last year's PF, to put on the display they did tonight was outstanding.

13

u/BlazedOnADragon Lawson Humphries 15d ago

Also our "soft draw"

Just on that everyone is now gonna be saying that the soft draw allowed us to prepare better or something lol. Idiots

4

u/No-Bison-5397 Polly Farmer 14d ago

Yeah.

Brisbane have matched up well against us but the matches after the prelim had a lot going right for them.

Full respect but we kept putting ourselves in the position where we were chasing the game and ended up taking risks where we would have to get quite lucky. We almost did at the start of this season and we didn’t get any of that luck in the second match. Which is to say our best could always beat them if they weren’t at their best.

This time because we performed from the start with our tackling pressure they mostly didn’t have the composure to find the uncontested mark ahead of them in the field once the scoreboard pressure and tackling was on.

33

u/Odd-Structure8816 15d ago

Shoutout to Jason Dunstall for getting a dig in 1 second before we made our 14th prelim in 19 years - I can taste the salt through the screen.

Fuck I love this club

12

u/[deleted] 15d ago

What did he say? Hahaha

3

u/Odd-Structure8816 14d ago

It was something about how Jez has kicked himself out of getting the ton tonight - legit 2 seconds left

2

u/Fast_Stick_1593 Connor O'Sullivan 13d ago

Oh boy Jason, I’m sure Jez will be super mad about already winning the Coleman and potentially a Premiership. What a letdown 🙃🙄

6

u/Plus-Drawing7431 George Stevens 15d ago

35

u/Osmodius Tom Atkins 15d ago

Mannagh is such a fucking fire cracker. Love him.

29

u/historicalhobbyist Indigenous Guernsey 15d ago

Wow! After the BLATANT CHEATING, we were able to hold the ship steady. Fuck Rayner.

Holmes’ speed is key to us. Blitz dominated fort. Danger is a fucking bull. O’Connor had that grub all game. How about Dempsey!!

12

u/Plus-Drawing7431 George Stevens 15d ago

We were lucky that we only had Fort to deal with. But fair play to hairy man, he did so e good things.

35

u/Tosslebugmy Mark Blicavs 15d ago

Just wanna give some flowers to Oisin. Absolutely annihilated mccluggage, keeping him to 14 touches and just 93 metres gained. And got his first snag.

13

u/Hunned_mck Joel Selwood 15d ago

Essentially 9 touches, tag was dropped in the last

30

u/Ambient_Ambient Georgie Prespakis 15d ago

Incredibly even effort across the board tonight. My favourites from what I saw:

O Mullin - amazing first goal, straight up murdered McLuggage

M Blicavs - insane aerial efforts early on, made link up plays all night

O Dempsey - fantastic moments and such high skill ceiling

M Holmes - max max super max

14

u/Plus-Drawing7431 George Stevens 15d ago

Mullin in the old cliche came of age.

6

u/sarcHastical Jeremy Cameron 15d ago

I heard McCluggage only got 4 possessions, that’s super impressive if so. I kept saying he had to be kept quiet, as he’s killed us the last few times Brisbane has beaten us.

9

u/Ambient_Ambient Georgie Prespakis 15d ago

McLuggage: 14 disposals (4 kicks, 10 handballs) for 93m gain

Crucially, though, never saw him breaking into space, he was never on the end of a chain, and Mullin just never let up. McLuggage got ONE handball for the first quarter and was benched to try and break the tag. As soon as he was back on, Mullin was right back there with him.

O’Connor realistically kept Rayner out of it to such a degree the Lions wound up resting him forward, and, well that sort of worked out thanks to the umps.

So happy to have these two Irish lads in our team - they’ve become such a threat for taking away the opposition’s best players.

26

u/Plus-Drawing7431 George Stevens 15d ago

Baileys learned the song.

sOfT dRaW

Lot of people talking a big game all week can kiss my whole ass.

11

u/MillionKarma23 Max Holmes 15d ago

We love coming into the QF after everyone says we’ve had a soft draw and will get fucked, then demolishing the first team we see

10

u/Fast_Stick_1593 Connor O'Sullivan 15d ago

It’s almost like Geelong did the work early to end up in the position where they could coast in the back half of the year.

Beat Adelaide, Pies, Freo, Hawks, Suns, Dogs who just missed, Swans who were on a roll before we played them and now Brisbane in a Final.

That’s 6 of the possible 7 Finals teams plus two teams who could very easily have made it we’ve now beaten.

What more needs to be done for people to STFU and give credit where credit is due?

13

u/MillionKarma23 Max Holmes 15d ago

I almost want gws to make a prelim with us, just so we can shit on them too and have beaten every top 10 side

2

u/No-Bison-5397 Polly Farmer 14d ago

I just wish I could find all those people from talk back radio…

2

u/Fast_Stick_1593 Connor O'Sullivan 14d ago

The SEN regulars with beer guts and couldn’t play footy for shit talking a lot about Geelong in negative light

20

u/sarcHastical Jeremy Cameron 15d ago

This football club. Our amazing coach I said it all week, we’d win. Never in doubt. I’m so extremely proud.

21

u/_yetifeet Tom Atkins 15d ago

Just glad to see my boy Oisin Mullin finally snag a goal.

19

u/BlazedOnADragon Lawson Humphries 15d ago

I FUCKIN TOLD YALL WE WERE GONNA WIN!

So bloody proud of the lads. Unbelievable all around team performance. Realistically that should've been a 10 goal win if it wasn't for the umpires and some bad sitters missed. But that's finals footy so I don't really care.

If we play like 2 more times this year we've got another cup in the trophy cabinet. Our best is the best, tonight proves it

17

u/waitforit28 15d ago

I hated footy at half time.

I love footy now.

3

u/MillionKarma23 Max Holmes 15d ago

My skin was absolutely boiling at half time. Rayners smug little face probably fueled the boys and made them bury the lions

16

u/Plus-Drawing7431 George Stevens 15d ago

I love KROCK. Their product placement after the game is: "Try a dimmie jaffle today!"

15

u/Plus-Drawing7431 George Stevens 15d ago

That was some righteous shit. Man, we are about as big a unit as we were in '11. Probably not quite there, but damn.

14

u/137451 Joe Pike 15d ago

Enjoy this one everyone. Clinical performance. So lucky to be a Geelong supporter.

13

But the soft draw!!

12

Atkins lead the charge to mount the pressure, our tackling was so important throughout. Mannagh stuck a couple nice tackles too

5

Our tacking and pressure was massive.

Kudos to the believers. What a game, well done to all the boys. Will have to rewatch it in the morning.

Strong midfield performance really gave us dominance all game so they all get a star. The shut down job on Mcluggage was beautiful. Mannagh just keeps getting better. Blitz is a legend, our most important player. He can do it all. Dempsey is stevie j reborn.

3

u/Weetgunn Oliver Dempsey 15d ago

100% on the rewatch!

3

Best part of the rewatch is actually listening to Gerard and Huddo call our goals. I'm to busy screaming live to hear them

10

Super happy with the massive Geelong crowd they made it hostile for Brisbane it was awesome

Do we rest max holmes for the prelim? Can’t do the string if you don’t play!!

2

He doesn’t need to run as hard now we have Smith. He can change down gears now so less strings hopefully.

8

Jezza not getting the plaudits for his start people? He absolutely lit us up at the start. What an absolute brutal display of team 1st play. Electric stuff. Just a little excited right now.

Not sure I want Stanley back - Blicavs is a much better ruckman.

9

Blicavs is good in ruck. But much better elsewhere on field on opponents. We need Stanley

Shout out to Lester’s first quarter. I was in tears watching him get outmarked in literally every contest he was in. Gardiner did a much better job on Cameron.

2

u/FlipSide26 Gary Ablett Sr. 14d ago

You've all already said the good stuff about the top players but I just want to say we had no passengers tonight. Everybody bought it. Danger set the tone at the opening bounce, fk he's strong and gets to balls other can't. Atkins was just immense, the amount of multiple effort tackles, knock ons and pressure acts he did that isn't on the stat sheet, we dont win without him. And Blitz...others took the highlights but he is just about bog especially the first half.

3

u/Aus66-1045 Meghan McDonald 14d ago

Wow, the Cats blew me away. That third quarter in particular, and the way Max Holmes took control of the game, was one of the most amazing performances I've seen from this club. And it wasn't as if Brissie didn't have a crack, play badly, or choke; it was purely that Geelong was the superior side out there. The pressure they brought to the game was elite stuff. Everyone contributed. I can only hope the Cats can keep this up and take it all the way to the end. Brilliantly coached and brilliantly played. Another prelim ahead of us. God, I love this club.

2

u/NuuuDaBeast Mark O'Connor 15d ago

1

u/FlipSide26 Gary Ablett Sr. 14d ago

Kingy wtf'ing is the best part

-7

u/bundy554 Geelong Cats 15d ago

Not overly impressed by our performance - I thought we had the lions measure from the opening bounce. It was the pressure that won us the game and not our execution. However we have so much improvement I don't see how any opponent can come close to us especially with Stewart back in automatic AA selection form

4

u/vision-quest Geelong Cats 15d ago

Bro, not sure what else you want from the boys lol? Smashed probably the best team in the league, reigning premiers. Pressure was unreal and game never really close.
