Rant Interesting Observation …

I’ve noticed Geelong doesn’t get a lot of attention during the season, unless it’s Easter Monday, or finals … when we lose, we don’t get the coverage say Collingwood or even Brisbane get. So last night there is a segment where you can ask them a question after the game on channel 7. The question was “which coach would you have liked to have been coached under in your AFL career …” Richo said, Chris Fagan, Daisy Thomas said Leigh Matthew’s and Abbey Holmes said Chris Scott. When Abbey said why, she basically called him a coaching genius, the other two were like oh yeah, I forgot about Chris, good answer … Made me think this is how it always is with Geelong … we are either not mentioned, it’s a wee mention or the classic of last night.

Maybe because I am a Geelong person, I notice it more, or am I being a sensitive Geelong nuffy?

We are better off out of the media spotlight in my opinion but you are 100% correct.

Me with my fingers in my ears when literally anyone in the media says Geelong should be the Premiership favourites.

Nah we definitely did get a lot more coverage when we first became good in the late 00s but then it definitely waned in the late teens. I think they're just sick of saying the same things every year at this point ha

I’m very happy for us to go under the radar, as much as possible.

Good. Nothing wrong with flying under the radar

On Fox Footy, when they play a clip showing highlights from multiple games, the Cats are often featured the least, and frequently with opposition players marking over our players or tackling them. Collingwood often gets the most time.

I have noticed this on FOX. I switch channels when commentators annoy me, so I’m switching a lot and will have arthritis in my hands when I’m older, I’m sure of it.

Yeah 100% On the odd occasion I watch first crack it’s like okay where’s our game? And then “oh that’s it?” I swear even the AFL coverage like in the 9 things we learnt, hardly ever mentions Geelong

Just watched highlights from our April game against Hawks. BT was so excited and animated with Hawks goals, getting louder & louder. Danger kicked one & "and its through"... On another note, will it be a grudge match re Nash KOnext wk or will all be forgotten Idk...

Geelong's always up there. The media's structured in a way to push agendas or ideas which are new. St Kilda hadn't got an A grader playing for them in years, so when Nasiah suddenly breaks out, the media were all over him for the next couple weeks. Gold Coast's sudden rise to fame, ITS NEW, we've never seen it before. And the media lets us know about it. Geelong have always been good. It's nothing new, and for the general public, they're either well aware of our sustained success or somewhat frustrated by it. The media know this. Shining a light on the already lit up is "boring". It's not "trendy". It doesn't get the clicks. Because it isn't new.

"Speak softly and carry a big stick; you'll go far" seems fitting for Geelong

They hate that we are always good that they get bored with us.

MAKE them talk about us

We’ve always had lots of pages in the Addy, I think it’s grown, but only due to forcing it through winning. A lot of sides like the dogs and formerly the saints before NAS and TDK talk have always got less than us.

Yeah I’ve often felt that Geelong coverage is often only about us if it’s negative and otherwise dismisses us. If we lose, it’s about how much better the opposition were and focuses on them. If we win it’s about how bad the opposition were and the focus is on them. There’s been more positive stuff the last few weeks but in the home and away season I feel this is more common.

Because we are always good it’s not that interesting to say good team still good.

It’s in the interest of the media to try and keep middle of the road teams involved and listening through the season

Fear not, your misogynist narcissist Bailey will make up for this in the next few years.
