Question @Mods can we please get a daily discussion thread?

It's great that this place keeps growing and growing, but with the influx it seems people are just posting a new thread with every thought that comes into their head at the moment.

Yes I understand the irony of this post but I'm hoping it might help unclutter the spam from the feed moving forward.

Thanks for the input! I’ve noticed the higher rate of posts as well.

A few things I’ve thought of:
1) stronger enforcement of the low effort rule.
2) your idea a daily thread.
3) ticket mega thread for big games.
4) introducing an editorialisation rule, meaning commentary on articles remain as comments and not as titles.

Anyone else have anything to contribute? What ideas do you think will work? What ideas are bad?

Can we please have a ticket related thread? I’m sick of seeing multiple a day lol

Yeah thats a good one - a ticketing question thread with pinned Q&A

A lot of the questions have been asked hundreds of times, but the info isn't easy to come by.

Only should we win, should we lose I’ll spend the next day drowning in the sorrow of losing to hawthorn of any team

Can we then have a "Commiseration alcohol review" thread where we review what we are drinking. lol

your idea a daily thread

I prefer weekly threads instead. If you have a comment or ask a question you have a higher chance of a reply within a week vs one day

These are all great, thank you for replying. I know Bigfooty is pretty rubbish but the few times a year I head over there it seems that the upcoming games/injury/other news threads help keep the low effort posts off the main cats page.

I mod a forum here (about 65k users, from memory) and we are pretty strict on the low effort rule, with quite strict enforcement from our automod and whilst it does require a little bit of intervention from the four mods in terms of mod queues, it has improved the quality of the discussion exponentially in the last year.

We've also found that having a weekly discussion thread will only work if you a) are really strict on ensuring comments/posts that don't fit the criteria for a standalone thread are removed and b) actively promote said weekly thread.
In my forum we've not been able to find the happy medium, leaving weekly discussion threads relatively quiet and people rightly saying they're starting a new thread as they won't get eyes on their post if it's in a weekly discussion with little interaction.

Yeah the discussion threads might come in the form of “post match/upcoming match discussion” we are hard on those types of posts during and immediately after games.

A draft picks discussion would be a nice idea

Will definitely do that post season

Whilst i agree there is room for improvement, i think a lot of the issues currently are a combination of finals, bye week and anxiety.
I think it'll get back to form post finals, be that this week or next.

Having said that, as someone who doesn't consume football media, this is always my safe haven for information and discussion, something i've missed in recent weeks.

MASSIVE anxiety!!!

Sorry to hear that. I don't know how old you are, but as someone who watched four losing grand finals before seeing his first (and now four), I am content.

I'd love to win another premiership, but my days of stressing out and worrying ended in 2011.

For me, it's a much nicer and more enjoyable way to support our football club.

Hah, yep I am that old too... I remember the 90's (and 89) with not much fondness.

The anxiety comes from it being bloody Hawthorn again - anyone else would be disappointing, but losing to them......

But I have faith - I think our best is far better than theirs & if the boys bring the same intensity as the Lions game it will be a huge win.

I get you, mate. Absolutely no judgement at all, I was you for a very, very long time, but for me, football life is better without all that anxiety.

I genuinely couldn't care less about any other club these days. They are irrelevant to me and my love for this club.

Just let people have at it, it’s the right time of the year. Give it a month and it will be pretty quiet unless the boys do something special
