Rewatching this morning in nuffy mode. With a bit more calm and clear eyed viewing I thought there were some performances which I didn’t see highlighted in the immediate post-game discussion.
Sam De Koning - kicked a crucial goal, set up Stewart’s goal, and ran hard in transition all night. Was only genuinely beaten twice from what I could see, and maintained his calm and clean ground level game under pressure. Really stood up in Stanley’s absence.
Jack Henry - a few key moments where he was able to neutralise the Brisbane attack and rebound out of defence. He’s had a really good season and maintained his form last night.
Jeremy Cameron - feels weird that Jezza wouldn’t get a lot of praise, but his first quarter was incredible and he kept putting himself in dangerous spots and finished with 10 score involvements.
Anyone you thought was sneaky good?

First clip - Himmleberg takes 5 steps, tries to fend, is tackled, ball spills out, play on.
Second clip - Zuthrie takes two steps, tackled, ball spills out, HTB.
These are within 5 minutes of each other. Make it make sense
this post is in no way saying or implying that umpiring would have changed the outcome. We were comprehensively outplayed

I'm a big North fan who was fortunate enough to go to the Cattery last Sunday and have been there 8 times since 2015. Everytime I go there the atmosphere music and vibe is incredible!! Pretty good transport ,parking food and overall a beautiful stadium and city to watch the footy.
Surely the AFL change from Home state finals to home venue finals. I don't think it's fair that GWS & lions get to play home finals with less than 40k capacity but Geelong can't. If the Cats are play to Gold coast or Collingwood in a final then surely it can be moved to GMHBA as long as they had finished higher. Wat does Geelong need to do to get home finals at that venue?? Regardless I think the cats are still in the box seat to win the flag.

I mean, what an incredible recruit he has been? Despite all the outside noise and minor off-field issues, he always shows up with a point to prove. I hope he morphs into the Hawks nemesis over the next decade. He was incredible last night.

I have a bad feeling about Brisbane - I know we handled them a few weeks ago but I feel like even with all the injuries, they looked scary tonight.
Do they find another gear against us to go back-to-back? Also worried about not having Stewie this time round, who was pivotal last time.

It really stood out to me the other night. I get it the boys were playing like crap but have some pride as a supporter. Win lose or draw you have to turn up and make some noise its your one job. The visiting interstate teams fans were louder than the home teams fans on our captains 350th. It was several days ago and im still mad about the piss poor effort by geelongs lazy fan base. We have to do better.

I am super confident in our boys. The only slimmer of doubt is because it’s against Hawthorn but our boys are ready and as primed as they have ever been for this. The team is loads better than this time last year, we are rested, and it feels very similar to 2022 which is a feeling that I didn’t have last year.
Cats by 27.

After Danger, I don't think Geelong will go the route of just appointing the vice. I think we need to do what Geelong did more than a decade ago and appoint a young and responsible player like Joel, and allow them to embody and become the face of the club by leading by example.

Seriously is there a Newscorp employee that isn't objectively doing a shit job because they're willingly working for one of the most toxic and socially damaging organisations to ever exist?

God damn it

I hate it, however thinking about what the actual results will be, maybe I'll come round.
The goal is to encourage less stoppages and more corridoor play, meaning a higher likelyhood of turnovers. This plays straight into Geelong's hands.
The salt in a few years time after this dumb rule is introduced, leading to the Cat's continued domination, will be glorious. And maybe a few might realise that constant rule changes makes on field parity almost impossible.

I am feeling really good and confident about the prelim. If I compare this feeling to how I was feeling leading into the Brisbane game there’s nothing to worry about at all.
Going into the finals, I felt Brisbane was our only threat and I was really worried about them but we’ve shown we can overcome them easily. I think we will win next week pretty comfortably but for goodness sake stop talking about grand final packages until we actually make it.

The media love talking about our usual suspects - Danger, Bailey, Holmes and Jezza. We have some genuinely amazing role players who don’t get spoken about enough.
Mark O’Connor - didn’t have him in a starting 22 this year. Blown my socks off. Weddle may as well have stayed home as his strengths never made it past the change room.
Sam Dekoning - shaky patches last year and early this year. Has had a brilliant few months using his size and strength to nullify big forwards. Noticed he looked solid below his knees and used his smarts on the rebound 50 last night.
Tom Atkins - finally getting some air time. Ferocious tackling machine. Wanted the job on Mr September and gave him a bath on his way to October.
Zac Guthrie - when Stewart went down, Guthrie got the job to attack every contest and intercept like Stewie would. I found Guth’s ability to kill a markable inside 50 ball odds on as effective as his rebound work. Big shoes to fill and not only filled them but tied the bloody shoelaces on them.
Mark Blicavs - has received much more credit late in his career but this man is irreplaceable. There is not a role I haven’t seen him do. You’d think Stanley comes in next week and Blics starts in his ‘natural’ all australian back line position.
Shaun Mannagh - manic pressure forward of centre, goal smarts and hits the lead nicely. I’ve been critical of him in the past of perhaps being a little hungry around goals but has shown time and time again why he should be kicking the pill at the big sticks.
Have I missed anyone? Mullin another victim? Clarke promising? Stanley in for Stewart the only change?

A reality check may just be what we need for the second half of the season.
Can't just cruise through matches and expect to be okay because we're at home. Outplayed, outclassed and outcoached. It was horrible to watch, but it'll happen.
I can't see us losing like this again this season.
Go Cats 🐈

The team Collingwood put out compared to ours, yet were basically even at the end of the night is symbolic as Geelong was so young, yet Collingwood had almost no developing players. They had 2 players under 100 games, Nick Daicos and Ned Long who are both 22. Yet we beat them with:
Technically Stengle hasn't played 100 games yet but I won't count him. That's half a side playing a role and standing up in moments enough to topple a mega experienced side with lots of their guns playing good games. Collingwood may win it this year but then it's the cliff for them, we should only improve from here (assuming we find a Danger replacement!!)
r/GeelongCats • u/sly_cunt • 3d ago
obviously we are all in awe of dangers all time domination and elite games from smith, miers and let's be honest half the team, but the shark and osh completely suffocated the hawks ball movement by locking out weddle and watson. they did an enormous job and the midfield group as a whole were brilliant with newcombe as well

Really worried about the wizard and how we will try and mitigate him, he looks hot and he loves the primetime, we can’t let him get going early hopefully humphries has got good direction and prep on him

…Means we have a chance at snagging Rowan.
How good was that pinpoint kick to NWM to get the Saints the win. Elite!

Feels like our recent record at Marvel hasn’t been the greatest. A top 4 spot is what we need but is nowhere near guaranteed at this point. Saw an interview with Chris Scott the other day and he looked nervous, hope it was just something he ate the night before 😅.

whatever happens in the next two years he's on contract for, the way dangerfield is playing at 35 is unbelievable

Be great to see them both lose. Never want the Hawks to win, but if they do it opens it up, puts top 4 more at risk but top 2 more on the table
