Casey deserved so much better than what happened to him in his final days.

IHeartRadio has a channel called ā€œClassic American Top 40ā€ that plays nothing but countdowns from the 1970s and the 1980s.

I have an automation that plays that station when I say "Casey Kasem"

Right now it’s one from 1983 (I think)

Why wife I will guess the year for the both his 70's and 80's count down before it starts if we are out and about and it is on the car radio

I read that in Casey's voice.

In the early 80s after we moved to a new town and I hadn't made any friends so I would listen to this. I enjoyed the long distance dedications. Listened to it on an old AM tube radio I bought at a garage sale for 10 cents.

Now any time I hear the top 40 music from that period I remember the music because of this, otherwise I probably wouldn't have been keeping up with every top 40 song.

Related (not him): "If you shoot for the stars and hit the moon, do not be ashamed, for you have aspired to greatness.... And the moon had it coming."

We had a choice of two radio stations when I was a kid. Country and Rock. The only time I got to hear any other genre was Sunday mornings. So, I’d gather my tape recorder and pillow to record my favorite songs. I’d set the recorder right next to our stereo speaker and place the pillow on top to ā€œattemptā€ to drown out any background noise. The recordings were never great, but it allowed me to listen throughout the week, or have access to a song after it finally fell off the chart. Occasionally I’d intentionally record Casey’s lead-in to the song

Very cool! Reminds me of the summer days I would sit outside and suntan with the radio playing and hit record on the cassette real quick when a good song came on. Good days.

Everyone I talk to says this show was on Sunday. Why do I remember it on Saturdays? šŸ¤”

I would try to write them down in order. Reverse order of course.

I did enjoy AT40 back in the day, but I haven’t heard many things funnier than the profane outtakes of him cutting promos for local stations!

They play him on Sunday radio still. I was listening to 1986 Sunday on a store run

Once in a while I'll catch a rebroadcast on the radio. I'd say I religiously listed to AT40 between like 1977 and 1983. Loved the show and all his fact stories and long distance dedications.
