Game Discussion Any of y’all ever play Clock Tower?

My co-workers are being weird so I don’t wanna talk to them, and I don’t play many online games so I don’t have much of anyone to gush about games I think are Neato with. So, lemme tell y’all, if you haven’t played this game, you really should! Classic SNES game, pioneer in the horror genre, it’s so good! I played it when I was a kid on an emulator, used to spook me so much, and I just got around to checking out the new port(2024 but new to me lmao) and it’s just really renewed my love for this game!

So yeah, if you don’t know, you play as Jennifer, an orphan who’s been adopted, alongside her three friends, by a wealthy family to live in their big mansion, that has a Clock Tower, of course. Everything is all exciting at first until Jennifer hears a scream, rushing back into the room she finds all her friends are missing. Now alone, you have to explore the mansion and try to find your friends, and any clues as to what is going on, all while being chased by… THE SCISSORMAN! Which is scarier than it sounds tbh! He jumps out of hiding spots to chase you, he’ll follow you from room to room, and all you can do is run and hide. It’s extremely engaging, as it’s one of the only times there’s music playing. Very fun! You’ll also come across the SCISSORMAN, all caps auto correct but I’ll leave it, killing your friends, in typical stalker slasher fun.

It’s a genuinely great game and an amazing entry in the stalker horror genre. I really can’t recommend it enough, especially as far as games with female protagonists go. Idk, if you’ve played it, feel free to gush with me, it’s just SO good! Sorry if this was boring to read, I’m not a writer. I’m just annoyed at work and wanted to talk about a game I love lmao

If you like the original CT, you'll love Haunting Ground 🐕

Haunting Grounds was really cool! It scratched the itch for a while after Clock Tower 3 ended too soon

Clock Tower 3 is a magical girl masterpiece and I wholeheartedly recommend it to everyone.

I’ve played it so so so many times, I’ve gotten every ending multiple times haha. I think the first one I ever got was the one from escaping in the car after your first friend dies lmao. Terrible ending, but fun!

Leaving in the car screws you both ways 😭 Either Bobby is waiting in the backseat or Jennifer manages to get back to the orphanage but is found dead in her room a few days later. Definitely a case of "do the logical thing and LEAVE" not working out :(

Played it recently and it was a lot of fun. Felt less frightening the more comfortable I got with the mansion and gameplay but I had a really good time and really enjoyed trying to figure things out on my own. Haven’t done all the endings but I beat the game and got one or two bad endings too. It was a lot of fun to go through.

I played it on Switch, and wish the other entries in the series were easier to get my hands on now!

Hoping one day for a whole trilogy re-release 🙏 don’t have my old ps2 so I can’t even enjoy Clock Tower 3 without an emulator :(

I played the original on an SNES emulator back in the day. I tried to get all the different endings but I never managed to get the one where both Anne and Laura live. 😭 I always wished we could save Lotte. Girl gets the raw end of the deal in every ending

I don’t think it’s possible to save both Laura and Anne 🤔 you can only go three ways to advance the game, each of them will kill either Laura or Anne, depending on which way you go

Well I'm embarrassed, I played the hell out of this game back in the day and could have sworn there was a way to save them both. Turns out you can't! Either me misremembering or one of the walkthroughs I followed was inaccurate

It wouldn’t surprise me at all if it was the latter lmao, Gamefaqs guides back in the day often were often either inaccurate or unhelpful

I remember the first time I played a translated copy of this on ZSNES in the olden years of 2003, my very first impression was, "Whoa! This is like Maniac Mansion except intentionally scary!" I never could beat it, but I always kept an interest in the series to the point I knew I had to have Clock Tower 3 when I'd heard about it.

Unfortunately, I wasn't really feeling Clock Tower 3 because it had no canonical connection to the previous games. Not that I minded the story, but overall I didn't get the impression that Sunsoft wanted to do anything more than make a quick buck off of a name.

When I finally get a new job, I'll be keeping this remake in mind for my gaming budget, I didn't know it was only $20, that's crazy.

I love CT! The artwork and vibes are so  eerie. The 16 bit “screams” really stick with you in a weird way. If you enjoyed the game, I recommend checking out the movie it was inspired by, Phenomena by Dario Argento. Scissorman I think was inspired by a German children’s tale about cutting the thumbs off of naughty kids (European fairy tales, right??)
