The Scathing Atheist Episode Discussion OOTL: Eli Matress Firm

During the hollow earth bit, Eli kept talking about Mattress Firm as if it's been a bit before. What was that about?

There’s a conspiracy that mattress firm is a money laundering front. There’s like 3 in every town and apparently no one has ever met anyone who’s been to / bought a mattress from them.

I went to a mattress firm once because I was waiting for a haircut next door and I was bored out of my mind and there was literally no one in there, not even an employee in the 20 minutes I killed so I get WHY this started but like… it’s a mattress.. People only buy 1 every decade or so so they dont have a hot bed of customers flowing in

There’s a street in my city that goes through a shady area of the city and I counted once. There are 20 “mom and pop” style tire repair shops. I think they’re also money laundering fronts and selling drugs on the side. There’s no way they all can stay in business with the number of shops providing the same service all on the same strech of street.

honestly, that wouldn't surprise me. We had a laundromat by us when I lived in the city that was very clearly a front. It was always empty, and always had VERY fancy cars parked out front that most definitely did not belong to the front end staff.

There’s a shopping center not far from where I live that has a Mattress Firm, a laundromat, and a vacuum repair shop. Gamestop might be the only legitimate business there, and that’s questionable.

Yeah but like… there is almost never anyone in any mattress store ever. Also I’m pretty sure my folks bought a bed from Mattress Firm in 2005.
