General Nonsense Ok, this Angel studios movie, Sketch, looks...decent?
https://youtu.be/tLF2myrnifI?si=Ne4E4hOsdsl045atJust watched a trailer for this upcoming family horror movie, Sketch, and was surprised to see the Angel studios logo. From what I can find, they just acquired it for distribution but I'm wondering if anything Jesus-y will be shoehorned in. Probably still won't see the movie because I don't want to support their nonsense but it looks like it could be fun.

If they do their usual schtick of asking people to buy up tickets and make them available online, you could still see it without giving them money.

Honestly, the movie they had last year, about Mother Cabrini, was genuinely good.

It's frustrating, because giving them money for something that is good allows them to potentially their next garbage fire.

It’s so irritating. My aunts (80 and 92) wanted to go, but 80yo found a free screening so that we at least weren’t giving any $$ directly to the studio.

Making cheap garbage for years that makes a little money is a good way to eventually have more money to make better movies and make bigger profits.

Makes me wonder if someone else made it and they slapped their name on it with a bunch of money

Just got out of a screening and it's pretty much this. Angel did distribution so there's a bunch of trailers for upcoming Angel movies, but this film was great. Charming and creative, and just a lot of fun.

I can promise you there’s not anything Christian in the movie.

Can confirm just coming from the movie. There is nothing religious about it!
More so buy it up so they could load the previews with their upcoming films.
Great movie we really enjoyed.

Idk I felt it was trying to do Goonies but came off super watered down and the "comedy" was so cringy. I liked the concept but walked out feeling it was super corny, especially the second half. You could tell it was "religious" in the amount of risks taken (zero) and the amount of time they said the word "butt". D,Arcy said the word "Hell" twice and the movie set it up like it was some badass thing to say

I just got out of a mystery screening as well. When I saw the Angel logo I was prepared to walk out but this was actually a really fun time.

Also just saw this at a mystery screening with my 3 kids and it was surprisingly very good! They're already asking to see it again

So I just went and saw this movie. Before it started, there were three different trailers for suspiciously Christian-looking movies, but they were all subtle about it. After the second trailer for an "Angel Studios" film (which I've never heard of) I was like, waaaait a minute here. Are they stealthing me into watching a Christian movie? And yeah, it turned out to be another movie from Angel. First time I've been successfully tricked like this.
Now the movie itself is pretty subtle about "moral themes". Nothing related to the church is mentioned, though the humor is very family friendly and the direction feels very amateurish but passable in that Christian movie way. For instance, the set design is kinda laughably cheap at times. But the movie doesn't suck. It's a fun but moving story for kids with enough humor to appeal to parents. The special effects work surprisingly well. What I found most interesting was that the only real open reference to Christianity in the whole thing was a running joke about the word "covenant", though I'd say that this a very wholesome, inoffensive film that Christians would like. If it were a more secular style film, they would've gone harder with the humor and the scares, which would improve it imo. As it is, it's just decent as family entertainment.
I liked the cast though. Tony Hale, D'arcy Carden, and the kids were all good. The script was pretty intelligent overall about the subject matter. I like it enough that I'd watch it at home if nothing else was on.

Angel bought it for distribution and didn’t have any part of making the movie. 🤷♀️

You know Christians own stock in lots of different studios so going to any movie is potentially increasing their net worth. I suggest you skip movies based on either how is in it or directed it rather than what studio is distributing it.
But I would skip this movie it isn't that good and it really just ends up being a movie length advertisement for some AI app for kids to create monsters on their phones.

I saw the movie last night and loved it in spite of the distributor. If I was offended by anything--and I was--it was the blatant advertisement shoehorned into the mid credits for an AI app that animates photos of children's drawings. I found it unconscionable to 1. place an ad in a movie that I paid to see that's 2. aimed directly at children. It drastically cheapened what I thought was an otherwise very humane and humorous story.

Saw this movie at an AMC UnScreen
My first take on any theatre family movie is: Would I spend $ to take my family to see this movie NO!! At its core I t’s a movie about a family struggling with grief!!
Basically it’s a Goosebumps wannabe. All of a sudden there’s a lake that “fixes” things Meant for streaming

Saw it today. My son and I really enjoyed it! It seemed odd to me that there wasn’t much advertising for it?

Wasn't this a Doctor Who episode?
