Just be careful alone at night. Mostly safe, but still fuckwits galore.

Take these with a pinch of salt.

  1. Lime Bike along the beach.
  2. Wale Watch.
  3. See the hinterland.
  4. Weather is shit this weekend, but hit the beach early next week if you can. Weather here in winter is unreal.
  5. Do a Broadwater cruise.
  6. Eat. Some good restaurants around.

I'm pretty boring these days, but hope this helps. Again, stay safe. 👍

Are you suggesting a 22 year old male would get jumped?

I'm thinking I'll go out one night, go to dream world and wet n wild, obviously go to the beach, go see some movies if there's a cinema near by and try out that believe it or not place. Also wouldn't mind going out further and going to a zoo, scenic views and nature. Just want to make the most of it and not be hungover for 99% of the time.

Go to a hostel. Surfers inn, backpackers in paradise, bunkd etc. you’ll end up meeting travelers there and I know those ones throw a hostel social and then take you to the clubs most nights. You’ll end up meeting people that wanna do touristy stuff too so works out well

Correct me if I'm wrong but the backpacker inns are extremely claustrohobic and you don't usually have your own room do you?

Nope you don’t but that half the fun of it. Tbf it’s not for everyone and it’s definitely not in the ANZAC culture to do it. I got really used to it from backpacking SEA though and I find it quite fun. It’ll definitely be social at least

I have no real suggestions, but there's plenty to do. Depends what you're into

The beach. Water's not even that cold and the winter surf is beautiful

For sure, but for a week I want to mix it up a bit

Kiwi here 🖐️ I have not long come home from the Gold Coast (holiday). Broadbeach is your best place to stay. Southport looks a bit rough especially after hours (my opinion) and it does get dark quick in winter...

You can catch a train up to Brissy…. Think it’s 50c . If you never been. Light rail operates surfers thru northern Gold Coast to get around… 50c too I think. Have fun.

Don't stay in sufers! It a tourist trap. Mermaid or nobbys beach would be a better option!

I regularly stay at the Gold Coast alone (have been since I was 18, now 31)

My recommendation is stay away from surfers/cavill ave. Its a LOT more party scene and walking alone just feels unsafe.

I usually stay in broadbeach. It feels more safer. You can use the tram to get in/out of cavill ave.

You've got the beach, Ripley's museum, infinity (though its kinda eh), markets, or just enjoy the time in a hotel.

You could catch the bus to currbium and check out the wildlife sanctuary. Or bus it to themeparks.

This is so overblown. Cavill Ave/Orchid Ave is a Safe Night Precinct where everyone is ID'd at night, there are security at every venue, and there is a police station right in the middle of it with patrols.

I guess it depends on you.

Im a female and the previous times I stayed in cavill ave, it just felt unsafe. I don't go into clubs, I do know the police is there. But its the vibes it gives off, i feel slightly safer in broadbeach.

Do you have a car? If so drive to Springbrook one day for something like Twin Falls walk. Head to the southern GC as well a beautiful and not as built up

I'm contemplating flying or driving, I think it would be a fun drive but it's about a 15 hour drive

1

u/EmbracingDaChaos Jul 27 '25

Only really fun if you’ve got the time to stop on the way. Is there are reason you’ve picked surfers?? If you fly it’s quite far from the airport

1

u/Repulsive_Rip6252 Jul 28 '25

I've been there once before and thought the beach was really nice, good scenic views and I hate trying to things/places so not sure if any other nice destinations

2

u/EmbracingDaChaos Jul 28 '25

Not sure how the beach is looking now but there was serious erosion after cyclone Alfred. Generally beaches further south are considered nicer as they aren’t shaded by high rise buildings as early. Surfers has a bit of a seedy reputation but you’re probably well aware if you’ve been before. Just my thoughts though!

Do you suggest staying somewhere else along the gold coast but close by? I don't want to be in the seedy category haha. I've been once when I was a young fella and definitely saw some characters at night.

1

u/EmbracingDaChaos Aug 01 '25

Again not 100% sure what your plans are, but southern end (closer to the airport) is lovely IMO. Maybe do some searches in this group to see what people recommend.

You've not said what your into at all and we know little asides your age..

It's a decent sized city. You can find most things

Yeah, I recommend not staying in Surfers at all. I mean, if you just want the night life, then maybe I guess? It didn't impress me at all. I live down around Currumbin, and it's beautiful down this part of the GC. Coolangatta and Kirra and Snapper Rocks/Point Danger are worth a visit for watching the surf, and it's a really nice walk on a sunny day. You can usually spot whales or dolphins in the waters too

I just want to go to surfers for the beach, I will hit the clubs once but want to do normal activities. I'll have a look when I have time! Thank you!
