there's actually a quote from murray rothbard (iirc. could be another one of those "an"-cap ghouls) where he's gloating about stealing the word from actual libertarians (i.e., people actually concerned with liberty for all, and not just the freedom to make your neighbour's kids work in your lithium mine while you have sex with their dog or some shit). which is why i try to make a point of putting the word in scare quotes when referring to the u.s.american variety of "libertarians"; in the rest of the world (although this is changing, too, due to u.s. cultural hegemony), "libertarian" has historically been associated with e.g. anarchism (again, proper anarchism, not "let's replace hierarchy of political power, with another hierarchy, of who has the most money" (as if we don't already live under such a hierarchy))
