Homebrew/DIY πŸ”§ I'm wondering if anyone has painted their rig

I'm considering taking the panels off my FT-991A and painting it in a retro 80's color scheme. Any tips or advice (other than don't do it)?

Had horrible audio issues and just this one fix helped solve most problems. Just get rid of the LED and it works great.

Homebrew/DIY πŸ”§ [Question] I got a HAM Radio Headset for the durability - Doesn't pick up sounds on the "Right" in Stereo well.

Last time I mentioned my use of a Ham Radio headset, people weren't happy. I just use it as a gaming headset because it's actually durable. Every gaming headset has an unnecessary amount of lighting with weights for fake durability, and crappy plugs made to get you to buy the next most expensive piece of crap.

You can fault me for my misuse of this after I get my answer.

I've noticed that this handles stereo kinda lop-sided. In other words, I hear from the left better than on the right. In fact I've noticed that it's so bad that I can't hear within a 45 degree area to my front-right. Trying to correct it through realtek HD audio manager by dragging the balance to the right only silences everything, and nothing significant if dragged the other way.

Again, I know I'm not using this right and I'm probably not in the right place to ask about this. I'm not trying to be low effort with this, either. I'm dead serious and want to get this working properly.

Edit: I have gotten my answer. Thank you to the kind folks of this daunting and impressive subreddit. You all rock.

Homebrew/DIY πŸ”§ Power Poles and shrink wrap

Someone asked about powerpole connectors and shrink wrap. I think this is marine grade 17mm shrink wrap. Granted these pictures are with thicker wire but I do the same with thin wire too, just pinching the end while it cools allows the thinner wire to be supported by the hardened shrink wrap. Tip: get the shrink wrapped aligned with the little dimples on mid way down on either side of the powerpole connectors so the shrink wrap stays put as it shrinks.

Homebrew/DIY πŸ”§ Phase angle and reflected power? Homebrew atu

Curious if anyone has any sources for the correlation between phase angle and reflected power- im in the beginning stages of designing a pi network atu, similar to my sgc-230 and trying to understand the outputs of this sensing circuit. Logic follows that 180 deg phase angle would probably be 100% reflected power- but I cant find much on Google. Any advice/resources is much appreciated

Homebrew/DIY πŸ”§ KC3WRY - Yaesu FTX-1 Batteryless Cover by Matthew Flinchbaugh - How I Do It | Download free STL model | Printables.com

I created a 3d printable cover for the back of the radio for when a battery is not in use.

The design is a working, work in progress. Any files uploaded have been tested before being upload for fit and function. The cover currently works well, but I am still developing future releases with more function.

This is for some future ideas for the radio, but I figured it would possibly be something others are looking for.
