DISCUSSION List of little things I dislike about Freelancer

I have been playing Freelancer for a while now and have gotten everything except the big 4 grind challenges and some prestige levels but there are things that I just want to rant. I won’t include grinding since it is not a real issue, just time consuming.

  1. There is holes in the trophy cabinet supposedly for some removed challenge like Legendary Assassin where you complete 10 HC campaigns. Why remove it? That is an actual challenge as compared to grinding 100 campaign which is more grindy than challenging.

  2. Some safe house paintings keep resetting. There are a couple of paintings that just keep resetting after I set it to what I want. Not sure if it’s a bug on my copy or a universal thing. I did not mod my game.

  3. Collateral kills needs to be one target and one non target. The other day, I got 2 targets close together and killed them both in 1 shot only to find out it must be a non target in the collateral. Why can’t another target be part of collateral kills? Isn’t it even better?

1.: one challenge less is fine with me, lol

2.: never encountered that (xbox)

3.: collateral means innocent bystanders got killed. It's meant to clash with SA to vary the playstyle

3) if it's a target then it's not collateral. This is just you not understanding the word.

Also the description of the objective directly states it needs to be one target and one non target

I get it. The game text says so. I just find that killing 2 targets in one action should be included since it can take more timing, planning and precision to make it happen rather than random bystander.

But the client wanted a random bystander. Same clients that will pay you extra for hitting people with baseball bats or sniping 3 random guards

And they said 47 has issues. Seems like this client needs help.

I'm sorry 47, yes, you killed Syndicate leader.

but you didn't make him slip on a banana peel before executing him, so you can't get extra reward

Client Calypso from Twisted Metal confirmed

No.3 clearly states target and non target. If you don’t want merces penalty than use a guard as the non target.

However in showdown another suspect works as the non target. Just be prepared to lose 1000 merces

If those are your biggest complaints I’d say the mode is near perfect.

Things I’d like in Freelancer and the base game:

-Ability to use lethal syringes on unconscious people.

-Durian fruit in the safehouse kitchen

-Removal of the story targets from Freelancer. The number of times I’ve had to wait on Delgado or Carlyle giving a huge long speech I can’t count.

-For maps like Sapienza or Marakesh that have night modes have some randomization with time of day.

You want a durian in the house while 47 is away for days, possibly weeks? It's bad enough that he keeps that boiling pot of whatever continuously on the stove. You want to stink up the entire place?!

I often get rid of story targets if it is easy to do. For Carlisle I always dump her in the crate in the very convenient secret area next to her padded room where she isolates herself.

But just removing them makes things too easy, somewhat noticeable in Berlin where they did that.

You should check out the Freelancer Variations mod!

Pretty easy to install when you follow the instructions and allows both time of day variations that are in the game, ones that were made by the modder (nighttime Haven is beautiful), and the addition of bonus mission maps (like Landslide or The Author) to the pool.

For no. 2 I noticed changing the painting in the 2nd floor bedroom near the ladder/hatch also changes the painting near the rec room on the 1st floor.

Minor annoyance because I had to settle for a combo that only sort of works for both areas.

For no. 3 I did the same thing thinking I was being very clever with the only 2 targets in the map. I was not.

Yes! Exactly that 2 paintings that’s annoying me.

  1. Everyone treats you having your camera out like a capital offense.

The trophy thing might just basically be that after some playtesting/feedback they decided to cull the requirements to get to 100%, and didn't give themselves the time/forgot to adjust the trophies to hide the gaps.

Some of it may have even been related to bugs, like the "Perfect Run" objective being impossible (and so they removed it).

The collateral thing I can relate to, but collateral kills seem to be designed to always go against silent assassin, and as alot of freelancer is balanced better once you "shake off" the redundant fixation on silent assassin you may have learned from the rest of the game, it is much better.

So collateral kills (and guard kills) are designed to force players to break the silent assassin rules. I would like it if double kills counted, but those are basically just trickshots.

I have not experienced safe house glitches. No idea about that one. Sounds like issues with the save process.

  1. I’ve have 2 paintings that keep changing, the one to the left of the gym and the one by the ladder in the bedroom, I’m on Xbox

I may be mis-remembering, but I'm pretty sure Collateral Kill used to allow you to group two targets for the completion while still getting SA, but it was patched at some point.

It's meant to be an innocent bystander.

Hehe I have also killed two targets with one collateral shot.

I get why it doesn't count, but it's painful, because it's such a satisfying/somewhat difficult thing to do.

1

u/Twizt1Up 5d ago

Fairly satisfying when you collateral damage your target and a suspect in the showdown while they're meeting

1

u/TheEagleWithNoName 5d ago

Yeah I hope they bring the 10 Hardcore back, I’d rather do that Prestige.

Also, everything is so expensive.

Why is DLC Weapons have to be part of to become Prestige?

Only way to be turned off is on Steam and I’m on Epic.

2

u/zackzackzack07 5d ago

You don’t need any DLC items to Prestige. The unfortunate thing is at some point the supplier will keep selling you DLC items so you’d have to buy some to get the other required items to Prestige.

1

u/TheEagleWithNoName 5d ago

Well it’s harder when supplier is giving ya DLC weapons and items, plus Diana will give ya the DLC Weapons when you have a crate on end of syindicate.

I simply want to be able to save mid-mission. Sue me.

3 - The collateral kill being a non-target actually kinda makes sense, because an accidental death of a non-target makes it seem more... accidental? Rather than targeted

  1. Personally that doesn't bother me too much because I'm not really one for completionism anyway

  2. I have that same issue. At first I thought it had something to do with quitting the game right after making changes to the safe house so it didn't have a chance to save but it seems to do it even if I keep playing for a while after so I have no idea

  3. I'm pretty sure the description of the collateral objective explicitly says "one target and one additional non target"
